Had a pleasant interaction with WealthSimple today ...

I will wait and see if it holds up. I recently had a cheque for long term disabilty clear and when I went to send my rent to my landlord my account got locked. I called and they opened a ticket got me to verify myself etc. Didn't hear anything back for 4 hours so I called again and the woman on the line confirmed they are reviewing my account. I told her I'm anxious as I need to pay rent and also need my accounts to be able to buy my medications. She said someone is reviewing it now and she updated the team with another message. She said she will follow the ticket number and contact me as soon as my account is cleared. Not sure if she just said that but I was pleasantly surprised. I will update if that's the actual truth.

Edit:

Update!! They have lifted the restrictions on my account. Called at 6:00AM and now its 12:30pm so thats not bad at all. Just keep bugging them lol !! it helped !!

My friend's Uber driver canceled the ride and drove off with his phone

My friend had a ride home last night with one stop to drop off a friend, and while he quickly got out to hug them and say goodbye the Uber driver canceled the ride and drove off with his phone and hat. The Uber driver at first said he had to "check his car" because he didn't have it but its live pinging to his address, and now he says he has it but has stopped answering calls or texts. He also said to handle it through Uber and I think the driver did this to make more money because of the lost item fee.

In the past I accidentally left my headphones in the car and looking back it was bogus that the driver gave me his home address (so I drove there to him he didn't waste any gas or time) and he demanded 60$ cash to get my headphones back. Apparently its only like 20$ through the app. I hope other driver's aren't abusing this.

EDIT:

Also if anyone is interested in an update he got his phone back! The police attended with him and the uber driver gave it back, but claimed he didn't have his hat so he's out a custom 500$ cowboy hat so that stings but all went well!

I appreciate all the perspectives I think this driver was just having a bad day or something I'm not sure but he got his phone back safely! Sending love to all here it was just a weird situatuon and its all resolved now.

How can I protect my account better? What are your strategies?

I keep seeing posts about peoples accounts being hacked and them losing money. I am about to come into a larger sum of money and I am debating having it deposited into Wealthsimple vs my other bank. I use the authenticator app, 2FA, biometrics, I changed my password into something very difficult, and I don't sign into any computers etc. I read the scam page on this subreddit as well and checked out WealthSimple's websites too. I am worried and I know every bank or account can be a victim of fraud, I just want to know what else I can do to be sure.

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to borrow $800 CAD to help cover rent and a few essential bills for the next couple of weeks.

I’m currently on medical EI, and my most recent payment was delayed because Service Canada requested an updated medical form from my doctor. The form is being completed now, but it paused the payment that was supposed to come through this week.

Once the form is processed, two EI payments will be released, which are expected May 11th, and I will repay $1,100 CAD on May 11, 2026.

I’m happy to provide any verification needed (ID, EI confirmation, etc.) and can repay via Interac e-transfer or via Wise.

I have loaned a few times on here and in a different sub and have always repaid on time or earlier. I fully intend to be transparent and to pay this on time a lender would be saving me from a hole

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
