I recently got a Hawley retainer, but I need a nightguard for my bruxism during sleep. I plan to wear my lower retainer during the day. So during the night, that would leave me with wearing my upper retainer with a lower nightguard.
However, I have an overbite, so when I bite while wearing my upper retainer, my lower teeth make contact with the acrylic of the upper retainer. So my teeth on the sides are making less contact with each other. Would it be fair to say that I'm not grinding nearly as strongly, so I may not need the bottom nightguard? Or will I eventually deform my retainer by biting to the acrylic so much?
