How are people doing 500–600+ km in a 17-day challenge?

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to Strava and I'm genuinely curious about something I saw on the leaderboard.

I'm doing the 30 km challenge, and I've been walking around 15 km per session. I've been doing this for about 17 days, so seeing people with 500–600+ km absolutely blew my mind.

For example, the #1 person on my leaderboard has 601.4 km, which works out to roughly 35 km every single day for 17 days.

And just to clarify, this leaderboard is specifically for Walking & Hiking activities during August only.

I'm not trying to hate, accuse anyone of cheating, or insult anyone at all. I'm genuinely trying to understand how this works.

How does Strava calculate the challenge distance that I'm missing?

I'm new to Strava, so I'd really appreciate someone explaining how people are reaching numbers like this.

I was this 🤏 close to taking off

Day 15 of walking done and logged another personal best for this distance. Clocked 15.51 km in 2h 38m with an average pace of 10:14 /km and even hit a 8:59 /km fastest split. The speed is really starting to pick up. Alhamdulillah.

Day 10 of walking

Transitioning out of a sedentary lifestyle and into long distance walking isn't always smooth especially when your GPS app decides to quit before you do.

It dropped almost 3.5 km off the actual route halfway through, but frustration aside, 16.78 km is officially on the board. The tracker took a break, but the legs kept moving. Day 10 finished.

My idea of a calm and relaxed

My idea of a "calm and relaxed" Friday walk... 15 km later 😅

Told myself I’d take it easy today since it’s Friday, but once you get into the rhythm, it’s hard to pull back! Decided to enjoy a steady, calm pace through my city and hit 15.35 km.

Week 1 consistency is feeling great. How’s your Friday workout looking?
