new barista trying to understand sequencing hot bar bevs

today was my 6th day training at starbucks, and today i was on solo hot bar doing cafe orders only. At some point i got kicked off bc i couldnt keep up with the pace, and my trainer took over. Though for a majority of the shift i was on my own. Anyway, I have fast food experience so I used to be able to keep up with large volumes of orders, but its significantly more difficult here!!!

For sequencing, I know that the stopping point is steaming milk for hot bevs, and adding syrup for cold bevs. But I get thrown off because at one point you will have an iced caramel macchiato and then half way through i have a shaken espresso or a hot matcha latte- i really dont know how to put my concern into words, but the fact is i dont know how to sequence.

Sorry if this is confusing. Any advice will help in terms of being quicker and orders of beverages.

food markouts

hi im a new barista at starbucks, but from what ive read… you cant take food off premises anymore? i had been working 3 shifts each week so far, and usually I eat one food item each shift, so 3 markouts used with 4 remaining. So should I not use those remaining 4???

I asked my shift and she said its fine to use the remaining all at once, but I dont see anyone else doing it and im also shy as well. And also this new policy is holding me back, like even tho everyone is telling me its fine- i dont want to be confronted and be in trouble for it later on. Like i wouldn’t mind using those remaining markoutsof the week for pastries or whatever for my family.

Disrespected by another MA

So I am a part time CMA at a practice with one provider. This provider has and prefers one full time MA, and she had one full MA for the longest time up until last year when I hired. Shortly after I was hired, so was another MA lets call her Sarah.

At this point 3 MAs were present, one had to go on maternity leave. She was the full (and only) CMA at the practice for two years? So Sarah delightfully covers for the MA going on maternity leave. So now it is just Sarah and I.

She is responsible for coming in everyday and ideally every hour, but they give me a few hours and she ends up leaving whenever I come in. So she opens, and I close for hee two days of the week. I work a total of 8 hours EVERY WEEK. I am in college so this schedule worked fine with me.

To cut to the chase really, Sarah has disrespected my boundaries and refuses to understand that I cannot always cover her shifts. I think I am being taken advantage of actually. She sent me a very passive aggressive message today after she sends me a whole list of days where she needs me to work. However, I recently got hired at a new job, and I told her so- and that because of this, I am not shre if I can cover all those days when she is gone. Additionally, we are open every other Friday- and we are supposed to alternate (so 1 MA one week and switch the next) and for some odd reason she likes to make up an excuse to not work on Fridays. So I have been working all Fridays since March despite her telling me we can “rotate”….

This grown woman has the audacity to tell me that I did not need to find another job. Who are you to tell me I cannot seek employment and more hours and more money? Are you joking? You think 8 hours in the summer is tolerable??? I am on break from college by the way. You are the full time MA therefore, you are responsible for your shifts and me covering for you when you cannot come, is a FAVOR. for her and the entire office. But she is pushing it. And guess what- whenever I ask if you can take the shift or if you can stay the whole day instead of me coming in (1 week notice) she makes up some kind of excuse. Ex: I wake up so early and come to the office at 7 and open all these days. I cannot stay the whole day. What!????!! I cannot call off for ONE DAY???!!! I have never missed a single assigned shift nor a day where she needed to be covered.

Please someone tells me they understand my frustration. I am at a loss here.

TLDR:
I only work 8 hours a week here to focus on college, but Sarah thinks my schedule belongs to her. She’s been dumping the rotating Friday shifts on me since March, but the second I need coverage? Absolute silence. When I got a second job for summer hours and told her I couldn't bail her out anymore, she actually had the nerve to text me saying I "didn't need to find another job." I am so done being taken advantage of by a full-time employee who thinks my favors are her birthright.

EDIT: I would love to put my 2 weeks in but they are extremely understaffed and I feel like leaving them would just leave me in bad terms with the office. The OG MA isnt returning for whatever reason?? Funny because like 3 wks ago they were saying how she is coming back. Like which one is it!! Sarah is leaving too for maternity leave . They have not found someone to replace her.

Ig Insights Deleted?

Hi,

I dont have a business account or anything I just like to look at my own stats for my personal pics. Anyway, I had my account public and decided to switch from professional to personal. But my personal still had a dashboard and I decided to turn it off.

A few days later I posted, and after I posted, I switched from personal to professional- somehow ALL MY INSIGHTS ARE GONE. 😭😭 Like no data available whatsoever. Im so annoyed, is there a way to get them back or are they forever gone? It started tracking everything after I turned it on so I am assuming its a lost cause. No clue how turning off the dashboard means deleting all data but ok instagram .

should i even bother interviewing

I recently applied to a Starbucks as a part time barista. I went in store to talk to the SM and he offered me an interview. Although, I am not sure if I should even bother interviewing in the first place. Was looking on here and lots of people said they have gone through the interview process plenty of times and still were not hired. Is it really that difficult? I have prior barista experience but
nothing close to Starbucks and how busy it is and large the menu is.

Thats another thing. I saw people saying it takes 3-6 months to get the drinks down. But what if I mess up drinks? What if i slow everything down? What exactly does training look like and where do they put you once you start on the floor? This store in particular is cafe only btw so no drive thru.

I dont know. I have pretty open availability, so I was hoping it would work out but now I have doubts. Please any input would be helpful.

I sort of like this guy who has been in a few of my classes. I thought he was cute, never told him though. Did have a conversation with him once and he smiled at me in class the next day. Never got the chance to speak ever again really. I did notice sneak glances in class. I later on followed him on instagram and he followed back. Although he never interacts with me such as story liking or him liking my posts for months now. Which is funny because looking through his following he is practically in EVERY woman’s likes…🫩 He is super quick to WATCH my stories though.

I texted him if wanted to do a project together he said yes relatively quickly and we were together for a good 2 hours no awkwardness. Learned a lot about him. Intense eye contact was definitely made. He definitely asked decent questions about me. But he never texted after that or implied on “hanging out” again. He is not the type to initiate anything. For instance, when I ran into him for the first time and talked to him, texted him about the project, followed on instagram first.

You get the gist it seems like im chasing him. The semester is about to end and this will be our last class together and potentially my last time seeinghim. I just dont know if i should ask him out or get rejected and feeling i got punched in the gut. Like it feels like he could potentially be attracted to be but would never act on it. He is introverted but definitely not shy. I know because he parties has good amount of friends, etc. also uses snapchat which iykyk is a red flag honestly.

Also dont know how I would execute this because I definitely wouldnt wanna do this over text.
