I accidentally gave an online order to woman A, when it should’ve gone to woman B. Woman A comes back and says “hey we were supposed to have (whatever pizzas they ordered, it’s a pizzeria)”
And I’m almost certain all this was my fault, but woman A ordered two pizzas and I gave her *one* (woman B’s order), so why did it take her so long to notice that it wasn’t her order??
Anyway, I say “ohmygodimsosorry” and handle it with woman A. Luckily her order had been made and was waiting in our online order area.
Woman B had been waiting in our waiting area and goes “… I think that was my order”
“Ohmygodimsosorry” but this time we have to remake woman B’s order, so she has to wait another ~15 minutes. I’m freakin out. I don’t usually make many mistakes at my OG location.
But woman B was cool as fuck. “It’s totally fine, it’s just pizza🤷🏻♀️
“Thank you woman B” I say with a tear in my eye; I’m starting my period soon and am PMSing. She made my night so much better.
First off, ~eating disorder trigger warning~!!
So I’ve worked in a pizzeria for about ten years. I’ve also been struggling with anorexia for about ten years. Luckily I’ve slowly begun to improve my diet and body image issues over the past few months-year, but I definitely still have work to do.
Anyway I occasionally get comments on my body and how skinny I am. Which I am very much not proud of and am very self conscious about! (Again, I’m working on it!)
These two are some of the worst ones I can remember though, and in retrospect are strange enough to make a good story.
So one time I think last year I went to the bathroom and ran into a woman who was probably in her sixties. She sees me and goes, “wow, you have the waist of a three year old 😏” and I was so stunned I just said something like “haha plus 28!” Because as you can see, I am indeed an adult woman. So incredibly weird and creepy!!
And the most recent time was even more uncomfortable because although I’ve only gained like 5lbs in the past month or so, I’ve been feeling really good about gaining weight and haven’t been super self conscious of my skinniness.
So this guy about my age (accompanied by a woman who I assumed was his girlfriend!) looks at me and goes “you’re mad thin for working at a pizza place!! I’d be like, obese!” And I was so tongue tied at first because again, I was stunned, but I said something about getting tired of pizza after working there for so long.
But like, do people just live under a rock??? How have you not heard that it’s incredibly rude to comment on people’s weight??? And don’t get me started on the tattoo-piercing-“weird hair” comments…
TLDR: I’m terrible at consoling customers who “break character” and tell me their deepest woes

Not that this kind of thing hasn’t happened to me before. This most recent time with the crying woman though:
She came up to the register to place a to-go (we’re a fast casual pizza place) and seemed calm/normal. So I put her order in and looked away for 2 (TWO) seconds and she was bawling all of a sudden?? So I was like “… are you okay?” And she was like “my husband’s divorcing me!” Also this was on Sunday aka Mother’s Day so, yeesh. And I sincerely think she was telling the truth unless she’s a better actor than like, Daniel day Lewis.
Anyway I had no idea what to do so I did the exact same thing I did the last time something like this happened: said something insensitive by accident after being snatched out of my customer service state!
“It’s for the best!” 🫠 “uhh do you want a hug?”
“No :-(“
Anyway, super uncomfortable especially because seeing her cry made me start to tear up which she also saw???
And the other time I remember this happening was a few years ago. Middle aged man comes in to pick up an online order. Is incredibly rude. Whatever, I’m used to it.
But! The next day he came in for *another* online order which confused me a little at first. So he came in and told me his name, I went to grab his order, then gave it to him.
But before he left, as he was walking to the door, he goes “hey I’m sorry for being so rude to you, my mom just died.”
*starts crying*
So I respond with my usual: “oh it’s ok! I’m sorry! Just brush it off!” 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
And he walked out the door never to be seen again
I'm sure many of you can relate.
It kind of kicked off when I was 18-20 years old; I'm 31 now (got diagnosed with autism last year :-)). I've had years where I've gained weight, but it was mainly because I was drinking a lot and was just... numb, I guess. I haven't drank in almost 4 years now though, so at least there's that!
But the point of this post is: does anyone have any success in recovering from anorexia *without* going through treatment? I've been admitted to psychiatric hospitals a few times when I was younger, mainly just for depression / suicide / substance abuse, but the majority of those times was before the anorexia kinda took over, so I didn't do any therapy around it when I was hospitalized.
I'm not as bad as I was when I was younger, but it's definitely still negatively affecting my life. And I'm still underweight :/
I want to be able to eat ice cream and not worry about how many calories I eat the day of and days after... and love my body 😞
I'm so scared because I've tried to gain weight once since I've been sober, and it was so hard. I just felt horrible about myself -n-
So if anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it. Thank you ❤️
(PS: I do have a therapist, but she's my partner and I's couples therapist. We occasionally talk about personal issues not related to our relationship though. We can't afford any additional therapy.)
