ZenExpenses now Has Budget and Split Transactions !!

ZenExpenses update: Budgets + Split Transactions are here 🎉

Shipped two big features for ZenExpenses this weekend:

1. Budgets

Set budgets per category and track them individually. Categories now support sub-categories too, and you're not locked into presets - add whatever categories/sub-categories fit your needs.

2. Split Transactions.

One transaction, multiple categories. That $290 Costco spend isn't just "Groceries" anymore. You can split it however it actually breaks down (e.g., $200 Groceries / $90 Electronics), see screenshot below.

WealthSimple promos feels like a polished Temu.

They should give an option to turn it off.

Making my home expense tracker of years public.

(I am posting this on Sunday which is when promotions of apps are allowed by mods.)

Hey everyone,

I am the developer of ZenExpenses. I built it because I couldn’t find an expense tracker that matched how I actually manage money.

I’m a salaried employee. I get paid twice a month, spend on a few credit cards, and mostly just wanted to know where my money was going. Many finance apps seemed focused on budgeting, investment tracking, or accounting terminology that I didn’t really need and honestly was too complicated for my needs.

A few specific problems I wanted to solve:

• I don’t budget. I’ve tried many times, but fixed budgets never worked for me.
• I didn’t want to connect my bank accounts to third-party services. Most banks already provide statements, so ZenExpenses imports and understands those directly.
• My wife and I split household expenses based on our income, and we managed it in spreadsheets for years. ZenExpenses now supports income-based expense sharing for couples or roommates.

I’ve been using (and improving) ZenExpenses for almost two years before deciding to release it publicly.

Current features include automatic categorization, custom categorization rules, tags, recurring expense tracking, income-based expense splitting, and automated analysis of spending patterns.

I’d love to hear any feedback, suggestions, or features you’d like to see. (I am in EST timezone)

Switch to RBC on renewal

I am in talks with an RBC advisor who said they will give me the renewal. But the initial documents they sent to sign doesn't have the mortgage commitment letter.

It has these agreements

Electronic Disclosure Agreements
RBC Client Agreement
Waiver for Mortgage Protection
RBC Disclosure Agreement
Final Discharge Statement Application for previous lender.

The advisor says after I sign these documents only they can sent me the mortgage commitment letter.

I know these documents are non binding, but some wordings in the Final Discharge agreement seems to instruct the current lender not to renew the mortgage.

I am skeptical of this as this my first time renewing.
Is this how RBC renewal works ? Or should I be seeing the commitment letter first before proceeding with anything.

We verbally agreed on the renewal terms but shouldn't I be seeing commitment letter to proceed?

Confirmed HelloFresh/ChefsPlate uses AI

ChefPlate is same company as HelloFresh.
No proofreading nada. AI slop recipe from HelloFresh for Montreal-Style Chopped Chicken Sandwiches.

At what point does AI conjure up some poison as authoritative recipe lols ?

A broker has been pressing me to sign the commitment letter. But I want to shop around a bit.

What consequences will I face if I sign the commitment letter now but then do not follow through the agreement?

The majority of brokers don't have a secure way to receive the documents. Most of them ask to just email the documents to them. How is this not a huge security & identity theft problem? The mortgage brokers have all the information of clients for identity theft in their emails. Even RBC brokers are using email.

Edit: Looks like there are professional brokers who use secure portal.

If you are shopping around, the first question to ask a broker is if they have a secure portal to receive the documents. I would at least obfuscate the SIN from the T4.
