I built a free interactive Hangout Map to help us easily find meetups and mates in Aotearoa

Hey,

I've noticed it can sometimes be tough to organize actual offline meetups or find genuine connections just by scrolling through text posts. To try and make building a local social circle a bit easier, I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on.

I set up r/KiwiHangout. The main feature is a live, interactive map built right into Reddit. Instead of posting into the void, you can visually see who is nearby, discover local events, and connect with people in your area.

* Visual Discovery: You can easily spot local meetups, coffee runs, or pub trips on the map.
* Privacy First: There is absolutely zero GPS tracking. You just manually drop a pin in your general area or suburb.
* Platonic Connections: Whether you are looking for new mates, a hobby buddy, or just someone to grab a coffee with, the map supports it all.

If you're looking to make some plans this week or just want to see who's hanging out around the country, feel free to drop by and put a pin on the map. Let's get some more offline meetups going!

Unilodge Mayoral Drive Space

Hey everyone,

Sort of random question but I can’t find the answer anywhere online and their virtual tour sucks, but I’ll be moving abroad to study at AUT and staying at Unilodge mayoral drive. I’m trying to figure out how much space there is for storage in the room. Does anyone know how far the bed is from the ground, and if I can store a medium/large sized suitcase underneath?

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me about this class? What did you think of it? How it was taught? Grading? Professor? Hard? Reasonable? Anything else?

Student Loan

I applied for the student loan for the first time and it was approved but… Since the fees for semester 2 is out… Does Studylink or whoever pay it for me? I heard that just applying for the student loan will pay the course fee for me but, How do I know it has been payed?
Cause clearly, I cannot use the student loan to pay it for me as it gives 1k per year but the course is more expensive than that.
I don’t want to be stupid and not do anything when I applied for the course and be kicked out just because I thought it would’ve been payed for me by applying for the student loan. People are saying it will be payed for me but… I haven’t been notified yet so it’s just making me worried.

Admissions terminology question

Hi! I applied 2 days ago. I applied for 4 programs. I was looking at my application status and the first one says "under review" and the other 3 say "not evaluated".

Does this mean they will evaluate if I don't get into my first choice? Or something else? Did I mess something up? I'm an international student, so I always feel like I'm guessing a bit!

Exam grade still not released, is this normal?

I sat an exam on the 15th and still haven’t received my grade yet. Do you guys think this delay is normal, or should I be concerned?

First year nursing students

Hi everyone,

For any nursing student that just finished their first year or is continuing to finish their first year, how did you find the courses and placement? Any suggestions on how it could have been better? Any review would be much appreciated!

Bachelor Oral Health

Hi guys, I am interested in studying the Bachelor of Oral Health next year at AUT. I’m wondering anyone who is currently doing the course could give me some information on how competitive entry is? I understand there are limited placements and I’m a post grad student (BCom) looking to make a career switch, wondering how good my chances are of acceptance into the course. Any info would be appreciated especially if anyone applied as a mature / post grad student!

Thanks!

A group for friendship and weekly hangouts within Auckland

Hi Aucklanders!

Over the past few months, I've been working on a personal project: making more friends! 😄

As you know making friends in Auckland is very hard and can be alienating so i created a discord group. Over the past few months we've been successful in getting regular people to chat and participate in our weekly hangouts and just be themselves and form friendships online.

📅 We aim to do something every week, including:

  • 🎱 Pool nights
  • 🍔 Food adventures
  • 🎳 Bowling
  • 🎮 Gaming nights
  • ☕ Casual hangouts
  • 🎉 Community events

Our group is called Auckland Hangout and we have a discord where we organize activities and game nights.

As an introvert myself, this was a big help in getting me out of my shell and meeting new people, and i hope it serves its purpose for many others.

I feel like my clincal educator was very biased during my placement

Anyone else ever feel like their clinical educator just... gave up on them?

I don't know if it was just me overthinking, but it honestly felt like my educator had so much more patience, compassion, and time for the other student than she did for me. It was not hard to notice lol

The ironic part? The feedback I got from the actual ward staff—who worked with me every day—was really positive. They're the ones who actually saw how I worked, how I interacted with patients, and how much effort I put in.

I'm not saying everyone has to get treated exactly the same, but as a student you can definitely tell when someone is more invested in everyone else's learning than yours. It really affects your confidence and your placement experience as SHE is the one who pass/fails you ..

Next time just say you only care about the blonde white chicks lol ...

Handback/Reconsideration

I received my grades last week for 3 out of 4 courses (one still pending, not sure why) and am a few points below C- grade. For this course, we had a mid sem exam, weekly tasks and a final exam. I’m hoping to attend the Handback/Reconsideration session on Monday to see if I can get a few marks to make C-, but in the case I do not, is there a chance I can get a few marks from some uncompleted tasks?
