To outline or not to outline
How does everyone feel about outlining their drawings? Don’t know if I’m explaining myself well but for example, I like to go over the black lines with acrylic marker to create a softer look. I love it honestly I think it makes the page look a different in comparison to if I leave the bold black lines. Examples in the pictures.
Noobie
I decided to get back into coloring as a hobby and as a way to get back into art. What are some tips, tricks, and advice that y'all can give a newbie like me?
Finished my page for MerMay. From LuLu's house of wonder.
Disney colour by numbers
I’ve been absolutely obsessed with these Disney colour by number books
My progress so far
I used y to I colour and craft when I was young, but it was more or less made into something negative. Having to be perfect, without trying things out because “you know better, you can do better” .. and other great comments from adults around me as kid. Now I am 50+ and starting to colour again once a week in an group setting. These are some of my “works” and I upgraded fast from cheap pencils to Faber-Castel polychrome. Still learning a lot! I know I am colouring like an kid, darker colour? Push that pencil!
The artist that is instructing/overseeing/guiding the group is fantastic and has given me lots of insights and tips. Like what I do, the push it thing, which is forcing me to actually give attention to what I do. I used to feel stressed and feel my painting has to be done within that one and a half hour. The first mountain ridge at night, taking the whole page, you can see it clearly. I tried later on to smoothen it out, but I guess it’s not possible anymore. My second try, same motive, but in an circle, is more softer. I took my time with it and it helped me understand why I have to start soft even if I want the dark colours. It just takes more time, attention and care. With that I also dared to be more creative and put it into an circle and not just use the whole page, learning to play with limitations and space.
This sub is also fantastic. I learn a lot here as well. So many of you are so talented and it’s so nice to know that this is such accepted thing. I am still not confident to colour at home, but I hope that I will start trying to do it next year. With this I also would love to see how other people’s progress is/was and hope some will show their first or early works and where they are now.
Thank you all for being yourselves and sharing your art with the rest of us. It is very appreciated.
I'm done with this horse
Unicorn by Kerby Rosanes.
Made with watercolors and a touch of colored pencils.
I always have the urge to paint the background black to make the colors pop, but it takes too much time. Do you have any tips on how to fill the background with little effort?

Anyone seen this book…?
This is a newly published book that I really love. It’s for the girly girls. Comes in printable copies, too!

For folks in the UK - I just found these in my local Aldi specials isle for £1.99 each!
I may have made an embarrassing little squeal 🤦🤣
Fun with markers
Still learning how markers work but this turned out okay I think? Gonna try out some more pages before I spring for the expensive stuff though haha
Can anyone tell what I was going for?
I’m doing themed coloring pages, but I’m a little bummed because I don’t think the theme is coming across. 😅
(Spoiler: it’s MLP theme)
Completed double page! 🐱🍓
Took awhile but finished this spread of cats and strawberries! 🥰 pretty happy with it :3

White marker help!
Hi I just did a pic from my minimalist book.
Alcohol marker base and the rest in pencil
I added some white details but its ruined.
Does anyone have recommendations?
Went back and worked on one i had given up on...
Had worked on this one a long time ago. I like it more now. I didnt know what to do with the skulls and hair. At first i wanted them to look like the shrunken heads at a museum but ended up doing this instead. The black ones I corrected turned out creepier.🤭
