Shepherd's Bush

Strange encounter at Sheppard’s Bush in Aurora

My husband was mountain biking through Sheppard’s Bush around 1 PM today when he saw what appeared to be a very tall older woman (maybe 50s/60s) with shoulder-length brown hair, wearing a long, old-fashioned/Victorian-style red dress.

She was walking very slowly, alone, deep into the woods toward the far end near Sugarbush. He has been mountain biking for years and knows these trails well, so he doesn't get creeped out easily. He said this was one of the strangest/creepiest things he's ever encountered.

He wasn't actually planning to head that way, but said that if he had been planning to go down that trail, he probably would have turned around and gone another way. He biked right past her, but she never turned around or seemed to react to him.

We're just trying to figure out what he might have seen. Has anyone seen this person around Sheppard’s Bush, or have any idea what she might have been doing there?

Activities

What are some good/fun activities in and around Aurora. I’m here visiting my two younger cousins (17f/15f) so I’m trying to find something for us to do.

We are going to the Barbie Cafe Pop up downtown, but I just need some chill fun things

Empty nesters and younger retirees (under 60), where are you finding community and making new friends in Aurora and area?

Curious how locals are navigating this life stage ... Could be organized groups and activities, or just things you personally do to stay busy and engaged. Entering this stage soon and appreciate ideas, advice and guidance! Thank you!

Considering moving to Aurora. How is the ER service at the hospital?

My parents have cardiac issues and absolutely fine now. But I am trying to be proactive if something were to happen how is the level of ER care at the Hospital. Living in North York and have had good experience overall at North York General Hospital. I am curious how the care at Southlake is assuming that is the main 24/7 ER Hospital.

Does Aurora allow you to grow vegetables on your front lawn? Is permaculture legal here?

Since dandelions are one of THE most nutrition-packed and beneficial vegetables you can eat, I'm thinking I'd like to grow a huge area of them on my front lawn. My back yard is all shade, due to the ring of trees around it (which I love).

The town forces you to mow your lawn before the end of May, so clearly they don't care about pollinators. This makes me wonder if they're unenlightened about other things too.

Disc Golf/ Frolf Practice Basket Locally

My son found a cheap disc golf set this weekend and is desperate to try and find a practice basket to throw the discs at at a local park. I have searched and am coming up with formal courses in Stouffville and some private courses at SAC and Aurora Montessori which won’t be accessible to us or is beyond the scope of what we are looking for … does anybody know is there a park in Aurora/ Newmarket where there is like just a basket where we can practice aiming at a thing that’s not a random tree? Or am I doomed to picking a rock somewhere in a school yard? 😂
