Sweeney’s signings of E. Lindholm, H. Lindholm and Zadorov are all aging badly

Looks like there is credible rumor - that the Bruins almost traded Zadorov for Nurse. But Zadorov nixed the trade (partial NTC).

In the playoffs - game 3 - he sustained a full MCL tear.

I'm sure Sweeney didn't intend to sign these vets hoping for bad health. He just made bad bets. All three have at least 4 more years left on their contracts.

I wonder if, due to this matter, Sweeney's mind has been clouded and he is apprehensive about giving Zacha an 8 x 8 extension-type deal, and instead is offering a 4 to 5-year extension.

Arvidsson rejects Bruins offer, heads to free agency

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, he was offered a deal around two-years, $5 million, but given that he’s headed to free agency, he has seemingly turned down the Original Six franchise.

“Someone said to me that they heard that Boston offered him like 2×5 or something like that,” Friedman said. “That obviously didn’t work, so we’ll see what happens.”

JJ peterka overpay

I know most of you probably hate felger but he absolutely hit it on the head on why that was a wild overpayment in that trade. Give it a listen on 98.5 today.

  1. 2 1’s for a guy who got benched in the playoffs and had already been taken off the powerplay on a bad team with a worse year overall.

  2. Mind you Utah gave up even less than that a year ago to acquire him after peterka had a good year in Buffalo.

  3. Giving up 2 1’s for a distressed asset is the definition of an overpayment. Regardless of using the picks to draft or not , a reasonable and objective fan should see it that way.

  4. Obviously it’s possible he plays well but you don’t pay for a guy for what you think he could be, you pay for what he is.

Too Many Europeans!

Bruins need more North Americans, way too many Europeans. More than half the roster are players from Europe.

Using Data to Analyze NHL Drafts

I posted about this a couple years ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/Bruins/comments/1hjgthg/using\_data\_to\_analyze\_bruins\_drafts/) but as players develop, the data changes. I just updated the data and the analysis. And until every player from those drafts is retired, the data will continue to change.

If you just hate Don Sweeney and can't even consider that he isn't the worst at drafting, it's probably best to just scroll on by.

If you're interested in objective data about how teams have drafted in comparison to each other, then maybe this will be interesting to you.

From 2015 to 2022, who is best at drafting?
Top 3: Rangers, Senators, Blues
Bottom 3: Flyers, Oilers, Red Wings

Bruins UFA targets

In no order

Not qualified - becomes UFA July 1st

  1. Matthew Kessel 6'3 RHD - St. Louis Blues did not qualify him. He is basically like a younger Andrew Peeke but with a better 1st three steps. Unremarkably steady.

  2. Matias Macceli 5'11 LW - A fast skating playmaker. Scored 39 pts in 71 games last season. Defensive game needs work.

  3. Arthur Kaliyev 6'2 LW - Sturm coached him during their tenure with Ontario Reign. Good scoring instincts and shot. Heavy footed like Morgan Geekie.

  4. Ryan Suzuki 6'1 C (UFA group 6) - From online rumors - looks like Habs are a favorite to sign him - so he can join his brother Nick. Good skater and offensive upside. Not physical. Play style similar ish to Zacha. Had a strong AHL playoffs.

RFAs(qualified) but with little to no space on their teams roster - could be trade bait

  • David Spacek 6'0 RHD - Good skater, physical and has offensive upside but also solid defensively.

  • Bredan Schneider 6'2 RHD - Bruins rumored to have had interest in the past. Good skater and physical. Mainly a stay at home D. He is coming off a tough shoulder surgery. Risky potential pickup.

  • Scott Morrow 6'2 RHD - Good skater and offensive upside. Rough around the edges on the defensive end.

  • Vincent Iorio 6'4 RHD - Similar to Matt Kessel profile. Moves better than Andrew Peeke. But only has average top speed.

** Schneider, Morrow and Iorio all from the NYR system. There is a very good chance at least one or two will be available via trade.

Darnell Nurse willing to waive his no trade clause - for the Penguins, Flyers or Bruins

As per Elliotte Friedman. Wow someone is willing to waive their NTC and lists the Bruins as one of their preferred destination?

Nurse including next season has 4 more years left at 9.25m aav.

Trade idea

  • To Oilers: Korpisalo, Lohrei, Mittelstadt, Kuraly

  • To Bruins: Nurse, Samanski, Lewandowski

** Samanski and Lewandowski - German descent.

If this trade occured

  • The GOOD: Get rid of Korpisalo's contract. DiPietro becomes an affordable backup. Open up space for younger Bruins to make the parent club. Nurse is still considered a top 4 D - at least for the next 2 years.

  • The BAD: Nurse play regresses. On the hook for 9.25m aav for several more season.

Pull the trigger or no?

If Oiler want anything more than suggested above. Hang up the phone.

That trade for JJ Peterka feels like any overpay

Honestly feels like they just gave up 2 1’s for a guy who’s similar to Jake debrusk production wise

Can someone explain spending a #2 on Ivanov?

We have so many pressing needs, goalie seems a strange choice to make at #2.
