Being young and famous is not a joke, and being young and famous and worshipped as the second coming of Dylan is especially not a joke. His every potential romantic entanglement becomes news on gossip sites and subreddits. He’s alluded to substance abuse issues before and mental health struggles. It’s a very precarious spot to be in for someone at his age.

He has something special, and I hope he is being careful with it. I hope he is around people who care enough to help.

Maybe this is a really obvious thing that isn’t talked about because everyone picked up on it immediately, but -

It does such a good job of capturing the times in life where everything feels like it’s been leading to a specific moment, and the stars are aligned, and you experience something transcendent that you could never have been planned.

And I love the Carnegie Hall show, but as someone who's obsessively listened to all of the live bootlegs of that leg of the tour, the 12/16 show is hands down better, musically, vocally, etc. It includes two additional new songs, including the hymn like opening track "Serious World." I remember how blown away I was the first time I heard it. It felt holy. This recording also contains the most heartbreakingly beautiful version of "Try As I May." Go right down the list and I trust many will agree. He sings the songs so much differently than the Carnegie Hall versions, highlighting how much they evolve as he plays them. These later versions are not just more polished, but are different in ways that make each song hit you so much harder on an emotional level. Has anyone else listened to the other bootlegs and had this experience?

Can someone comment on the pressing quality of the live album, either the standard black variant or the red indie one? Seeing mixed opinions on Discogs and some reports of warped discs.

as someone who didn’t listen to any concert clips before the release of the live album, this is flooring me. Drinking Age is insane live. this version is so much more desperate and angrier and kind of more panicked. like the studio version accepts some of the flaws he’s singing about, but the live version is full of guilt and rage at the person he is. didn’t think i could love the song more yet here we are

It’s so fucking beautiful. The studio version is fantastic and the instrumentation is so beautiful and eerie, but something about when it’s stripped down to just the piano and Cameron makes it almost more powerful.

It feels more relatable, like a man who’s truly on his last thread surrendering to the music and making the piano show us exactly how he feels. The “in the water“ section feels like he’s calling for help desperately and it’s so raw and beautiful. The way he keeps changing up how he sings the $0 is so interesting.

And then we move into this next section which is so fucking powerful I just can’t. I think, in a way, knowing what Cameron is going to do could have dampened the climax, but Cameron does such a good job of building with just the piano. He repeats each chord and strikes it so agressively but somehow the sound just keeps building until he hits that first “Godddddd is real” and it literally sends chills through my fucking body. That whole section is almost ineffably fantastic.

And then he forces us to sit on that chord. And the closer is so quiet and intimate yet no one in the audience speaks. It is not full or loud like the rest of the song but you feel the relief. It personally reminds me of how it feels right after you’ve sobbed for hours and it finally subsides. Still sad, still lonely, but blissful at the same time.

To take $0, which relied pretty heavily on the odd sounds that filled Heavy Metal and multiple layers of vocals to make it so powerful, and somehow make it even stronger with just a piano; that’s a serious accomplishment.
