Anyone camped at interlochen state park on duck lake?

I’m going on a charter fishing trip out of Frankfort in about a month but my dad , my son , and I are going up a few days early to camp and the only spot around there with availability was interlochen state park. It looked cool in the pictures but has anyone camped there? Is it a decent spot ? I saw it had a beach near the camp sight which is a must so I can take my son swimming . My dad and I are big fishermen too so we’re gonna take our kayaks and fish on the lake.

Manitou Islands Alternatives?

Manitou is such a great place to take kids, easy hikes, beach, no bears. Since the islands are closed this year, what is a good alternative for a long weekend backpacking trip with kids?

Upper Peninsula, Juneteenth, Too Buggy?

Hi all. Planning a backpacking trip from Chicago over the weekend of June 19-21. How bad are the black flies around the Pictured Rocks area (online sources are saying that is peak season)? I know the answer is probably "it depends." In your opinion, is the uncertainty worth going somewhere else that weekend? Thanks.

Pictured Rocks Chapel Rock to Mosquito River Group Sites Route Advice

We're taking a group of scouts to hike Pictured Rocks in the beginning of July.

I'm looking at the itinerary and the one place I have some uncertainty is the route from Coves to the Mosquito River group site.

https://www.nps.gov/piro/planyourvisit/upload/Chapel-Beaver-Day-Hikes-Map-508.pdf

When we get to Chapel Rock it looks like we can do one of three things:

A: Take the north fork and stay along the lakeshore. That's about 4.5 miles from the fork to the group site.

B: Take the second fork inland at Chapel Beach and hike along the north side of Chapel Lake This is probably ~4.4 miles to the group site.

C: Take the south fork at Chapel Rock and hike along the south side of Chapel Lake, hitting Chapel Falls along the way.

If we do B or C, then we'll come to another Fork where we can either B1/C1 and hike north of the river directly into Mosquito River or B2/C2 and go south of the river and cross at Mosquito Falls then hike directly into the group site (which is where we need to end up).

Anybody hiked them all and have any recommendations?

Manistee NF dispersed camping during memorial day weekend

hello all. not asking for any spots, but i've never camped out in Manistee NF before. generally speaking, how fucked am i if i can only arrive as early as 5ish this Friday? i know it's a huge forest with lots of choices, but if possible i'd like to find something near the Baldwin-ish area. i would just like to know how busy i should expect it to be and if i should maybe just give up while i'm ahead haha

Caution - Ticks are Abundant

I went camping the first weekend in May at Round Lake State Forest CG, and had zero issues with ticks. Over this past weekend I went camping at Rainbow Bend State Forest CG. I pulled one off of myself and three off of my dog. Be careful when you’re going out. Make sure you’re wearing the appropriate clothing, treating that clothing and yourself for ticks, bringing a tick remover tool and do regular tick checks! 🙂

Camping suggestions by Gladwin/Roscommon?

I'm considering a short 1-night trip up that way for some birding and was wondering what state/national forest campgrounds people recommend? I would love to disperse, but with the last-minute nature and cramped schedule, I think it would be easier to stay at one of the many rustic campgrounds there I have never been to, especially since most are first come first serve. Anything withing ~45 minutes of those areas is fine, and ideally whatever is as beautiful, quiet, rustic, and remote feeling as possible! Being on water is a plus of course. Thanks for any tips!
