Fireworks

Shout out to the police officers and first responders that have to deal with the drunk assholes that are already shooting off fireworks even before it’s dark out.

I work in radiology and I’m SOOOO thankful I’m off tonight.

Has anyone else heard a sophisticated high pitched "OW!" at night?

Recently at around 2AM my family has been hearing a very high pitched "OW!" At night for the past 2 nights. It sounded like it came from a smaller animal like a Chihuahua (my best reference) but I am very skeptical because it was almost perfectly timed, It was a singular OW, timed perfectly between each second, every single OW was almost the exact same tone and it didn't sound like an animal in pain, like with the timing of a metronome machine. Anyone else?

How are there still firework stands up with the firework ban?

I noticed the one near Walmart is still up. With the ban how are they still allowed to sell fireworks? Seemed like a good amount of customers still buying too.

If you’re curious why the power went out last night…

Supposedly a DUI driver struck a massive transformer on Jerry st. The entire apartment complex next to it is still without electricity.

Trifecta?

Does anyone know if Trifecta is closing? Google page shows open but heard rumblings there were issues there and possibly closing. Its been so long since we have been there.

Free Songwriting Class at Castle Rock Music

I'm hosting a free songwriting class at Castle Rock Music on Thursdays at 7pm, starting July 23rd. Do call the store (or go there in person) to register. It should be pretty good stuff.

Want better local government? Please sign the 3 to 5 petition!

Only 3 commissioners for a budget of $756 million of our taxes, representing 400,000 residents? The same number we've had since we became a county of 10,000 residents?

It only takes two for a majority and we've seen how they make decisions to benefit their donors, not their constituents. 5 commissioners, voted on by district, not all at-large, would add some oversight and accountability to the Board of County Commissioners.

Full list of events where you can sign the petition is found here, with more constantly being added. Events | 3 to 5 Douglas County Commissioners

A couple to note:
Castle Rock Farmer's Market tomorrow (Saturday) morning from 9-11
Duck Derby at Festival park Sunday from 1-3

This is so important and the signature requirement is high. We need everyone to make the effort to sign, please!

Half of downtown Castle Rock just lost power

Does anyone have any clue what’s going on? Even the fire department doesn’t have power and they immediately went lights & sirens after the outage occured.

Dawson Trails

What new retailers and restaurants would the people of Castle Rock like to see in Dawson Trails when it opens? My vote would be for a Trader Joe’s and a new Target. Target might be a stretch since there’s one close, but I’d love some suggestions from people on how to nudge TJ’s into considering that location for a future store. Other than my two though, what businesses are you guys hoping to see at Dawson Trails?

The "no trespassing" and strict HOA enforcement in Castle Rock neighborhoods feels like low-level violence

Genuine vent. I get wanting a nice quiet suburb, but after living here a while the constant fences, property line obsession, and meltdowns over anyone parking "where they shouldn't" or walking through just feels wrong. It's all miniature border enforcement.. aka: keeping people out who haven't been "approved."

No one is illegal, right? That includes neighbors, delivery drivers, or anyone just trying to exist in the community. I've started leaving my gate open during the day as a small act of resistance and call out anyone who doesn't do the same anymore. I was thinking of launching an app or service that let's homeowners post their homes up for asylum seekers and migrants to come stay with them for free. Its the least we could do to stay compassionate in this turbulent and hateful time in our nations history.

The ultimate goal is to tear down these oppressive systems. Anyone else in the sub struggling with this or pushing back against the heavy HOA border policing in their development?

New company ABA services

Hi everyone,

We are a new local in-home practice serving families in the Castle Rock, Parker, and surrounding areas called Integrative Mind & Body Wellness.

We approach ABA therapy differently than most, through a trauma-informed and relationship-centered lens. We believe meaningful progress happens when skill-building is paired with connection, emotional safety, and collaboration with families. We focus on the family as the whole, not just the child meaning we offer support and services to parents as well.

Many parents are familiar with ABA but may not realize how much the field has evolved. We use ABA, but focus on communication, emotional regulation, family support, and helping children build meaningful skills while respecting their individual needs.

A big focus of ours is trauma informed care, nutrition, attachment and relationships, teaching regulation, and supporting parents heavily.

We are currently accepting clients and would be happy to answer questions about services, the ABA process, insurance (we accept most), or whether our approach may be a good fit for your family.

You can learn more here:

https://www.mindbodywellnessllc.com

Even if you don’t need services yourself, we would appreciate you sharing this with any families who may be looking for support.

Any HVAC Techs?

Wondering if there are any HVAC techs in here that can give me a price. I had a company come out because our unit for our up stairs is aging (approx 18yrs) and was making a noise and having a hard time starting up. They came out yesterday and put in a 2 pole 35 + 5 capacitor. Still had issues today and they came out this afternoon and installed a super boost hard start capacitor. There was also mention of my compressor fan possibly going bad. Just have a feeling like they’re trying to shotgun fix it and maybe take me for a bit of a ride. So if any HVAC techs are in here, and can give me a rough price/quote on what you would charge, that would help set my mind at ease.

Unit is a Goodman GSC130361DE.
