I currently have an Odeon Limitless membership, but was looking at switching to Cineworld Unlimited. I was wondering how often Cineworld do these events since Odeon do them 2-3 times a month. The film seasons are pushing me towards Cineworld anyway but frequent early screenings would seal the deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi all, anyone have any idea if there will be any presale for Dune IMAX?
The showtimes for my local Cineworld have been updated and yet again they aren’t showing a movie that they’ve been showing a trailer campaign for.
This has happened several times in the last year and, frankly, I think it’s ridiculous.
Is anyone else tired of this happening?
My local is showing this on the 21st Sept, however for some reason it's in the 4DX screen, so has the £5 surcharge when booking. Is this correct? It doesn't say it's a 4DX film anywhere in the title or description, and doesn't seem like the type really. Has my local just made a mistake with the screen?
Was at my local Cineworld tonight am based in Scotland & the guy that works there was saying that dune have secured the rights to all IMAX screenings across the board for the first week so unfortunately no IMAX for doomsday we are doomed before it's even started 💯💀
anyone know if this one is a limited release this week, wide release next week like tony was? dcm has it listed as releasing this friday but no screenings at my local
Is 4dx rewind happening this year since it’s usually announced by now
tickets on sale, the usual 19.30pm showing
Any idea if they will screen the others in the build up to the release?
I just came back from watching spider man in 4DX, the 4D parts were great but gosh the 3D image quality was absolutely horrible. You couldn’t even read shop signs in the movie, it was that bad! I can’t emphasise how bad the image quality was.
Edit: I’m still questioning if there was something wrong with the 3D glasses I was given.
Screen 3 at Birmingham Broad Street.
It feels like a different place now. Ditching Pepsi for Coke and Fanta, lower stock of hot dogs it seems. Also what the heck is Movieplex? A brand new cinema chain? Probably not as IMC is the new owner.
They replaced the popcorn bags with unbranded ones, and replaced again with a Movieplex bag. Like I said before, what the heck is Movieplex?
I last visited the venue on May 27 for Mandalorian and came back again for End of Oak Street. Lots have changed since I last visited.
I swear last year I paid 15 quid for a ticket, now yesterday when I went.. I only paid 10
Not sure how many cinemas this will be in but they're showing previews of the new RotF movie. Idk if there will be any premiere footage but it's not classed as event cinema so it doesn't cost extra. Funnily enough it's showing in Edinburgh, which is where the ACTUAL premiere is.
The new dinosaur caper, The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as parents who must protect their kids when dinosaurs mysteriously invade their suburban neighbourhood, was set to take over premium screens on Friday 14 August and was even filmed for IMAX. But due to the massive box office success of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it now finds itself jilted from premium screens, not being scheduled at all at my local IMAX and given a desultory single-screening per day in 4DX and ScreenX screens. It was logistically impossible for me to see this in IMAX yesterday and I couldn’t be bothered to sit through another un-air conditioned ScreenX screening at Didsbury, so it’s back to just a basic 4DX review for this one.
The film itself - ★★★☆☆: Dino-lovers might feel I’m being harsh on this one but there are so many issues weighing it down despite the competent dinosaur action. The film is what should be a tight 99 minutes but it’s surprisingly slow for such a short film. It’s technically a spoiler to describe the premise of the film as it takes about a third of the runtime to set-up the basic situation. And yes, there’s something to be said for a gradual build-up of tension as this worked well for the original Jurassic Park, but it’s ridiculous to unveil at such a stately pace that your dinosaur film has dinosaurs in it - we know.
Once that’s over with, the film then waits another third of the runtime to provide the characters with an objective to work towards, leaving the characters and plot to flounder for another large chunk of the film. I did think the conclusion of the film was pretty satisfactory though and it pulled back my opinion of the film quite a bit.
I don’t think dinosaur films are famous for characterisation and there are limits to what even the original Jurassic Park achieved in this area but it was really quite dry in this one. Anne Hathaway is a really one-note girlboss who barely parses as the lead character for a large part of the film. Ewan McGregor is just there. I was really confused by the atheism vs Christianity sub-plot which saw the cast divided along gender lines as to whether they believed in God but did not actually explore the theme in any sort of interesting or meaningful way.
The premise of the film is such a strong existential threat to the characters that any attempt at character drama comes across as completely ridiculous. Is this really the time to explore the issues in your marriage/some random conflict with a random boy from the street? No. No, it is not.
It’s not like nothing works and the dinosaur action and back end of the film are pretty decent. But this premise for a dinosaur movie required the characterisation and plot to be very carefully crafted around it in a bespoke way to be truly successful and it feels like they popped out a lot of tropes and Jurassic Park call-backs instead.
The 4DX experience - ★★★☆☆: This film was apparently produced with an estimated budget of $80-90million, not particularly high for a dinosaur film, and the 4DX version ends up drawing attention to some of the ways the budget was kept down - basically by keeping the dinos off the screen for a lot of the film.
The seat movement is pretty additive in the dinosaur moments and there’s a bit where a particularly large dinosaur is quaking the house that really sells what’s happening in a way the image alone cannot. But it does take quite a long time for the film to get going and it’s not always packed with 4DX effects once it get there.
In terms of water, there’s not absolutely loads but the rain sequences have solid, lengthy bursts of the rain effect, there’s a nice back-firing spray when someone gets hit by a water balloon in the intro and there some nice bits of splash when characters get uncomfortably close to dinosaur’s mouths.
In terms of other weather, fog popped up once or twice pretty unmemorably, strobe is used one or twice (there is a plot point about bright lights so this is pretty appropriate) and the wind effect is used to create a general sense of being outside. There were also a couple of scents - the briny scent when the family find their basement is flooded and a floral scent while the characters are walking around outside. I’m pretty sure there was also some airburst when people used their firearms against the dinosaurs.
Overall, the programming is good in the moments where there is synergy, there’s just more downtime and less general fit with the 4DX format than you might expect with this kind of film.
Conclusions: Despite not being overawed by the 4DX, I do think it’s a decent way to watch the film if you want to go see it, I just wouldn’t make a special effort to see it purely based on being a 4DX aficionado. Of the two 4DX films currently available, I would definitely see Spider-Man: Brand New Day over this given the choice. Also, expect to see this get turfed out of premium formats quite quickly, so if you want to see it in a premium format go ASAP.
Shouldn’t an unlimited card transition from red to black when three months have passed since your subscription unless you pay yearly? Weird
When I first joined, I was never actually asked to show my pass and that continued for a long time. But over the last few months, my local has started asking to see it every single time.
It’s hardly an inconvenience, but it can sometimes hold things up a bit while people are faffing around trying to find their pass in the app.
Just wondering if this is happening everywhere now, or if it’s just my local?
Like... the latest movie is gonna be hadestown from London which is showing October 13th... other than that, cant find any screenings
