Heartbreak and dating in durban?

Hi All.

I have recently come out of a 4 year relationship and prior to that a 13 year relationship. The 13 year relationship ended on a good note while the 4 year relationship ended with me being betrayed by my partner. . for some context, I am a male, indian, 36 years of age.

Its been 6 months or so since being single, I have no kids, my own place, good job, well educated, learning to cook, have hobbies and go to gym.. I'm about average looking too.

I'm finding it hard to date anyone or even find anyone to even talk too that could even remotely turn into something.

Is there anyone out there that has been or going through the same thing??

I am wondering if its just me or is there something more to it.

Now that I am single, doing things alone is weird but its also been refreshing.

I find myself feeling like a fish out of water when it comes to trying to date or talk to someone as I've forgotten what the process is like..

Any advice or people going through the same?

Hyacinth in kzn waters

Hi, does anybody know what's happening to our rivers and waterways being covered by hyacinth? We drove to the south coast yesterday, and driving over the one bridge, my brother and I saw the one river absolutely COVERED in hyacinth. It was honestly scary. Also months ago by Inanda dam, saw that the hyacinth was creeping, went back to the spot a few weeks later, also, hyacinth absolutely destroying the way. Does anybody know what's going on with that, and why there isn't more news on that? It's a pretty serious thing imo. Thanks.

Any Fun Groups, Clubs, or Events for Young Adults around Kloof?

Been in a bit of a rut lately and looking for new things to do. I already do Ballroom Dancing on Mondays and Board Games on Fridays, but Im looking to mix things up a little bit and meet more people my age.

I enjoy things like hiking, casual sports (playing for fun), cooking/food, video games, and geeky things in general. Really looking forward to hearing some suggestions, and if you're interested in joining for ballroom or board games let me know.

Unreal Internet Cafe

Does anyone remember this gem that was in the Pavillion in the early 2000s? Does anyone have pics of it, or for that matter just the old pav in general? Please share if you do.

Where can I buy Indian clothing?

My mom is obsessed with Indian culture. Think Indian food, Indian traditional wear, Indian music, et cetera. She spends all her free time watching those Indian dramas on DSTV and constantly talks about how beautiful the women are - going as far as (jokingly) saying she wishes she was Indian herself. Her birthday is this month and I’d like to buy her some kind of Indian dress, but I don’t really know where to look. I’m currently based in Durban so I’m kindly asking for recommendations on what to buy and where for a 50+ yo black African.

Starting a business from hone

Hello

Can anyone give me information or guidance regarding starting a small business from home?

How does it work regarding zoning, municipality approval etc?

I have no clue. Thought I'd ask here first to get a feel for what it is before actually asking the municipality.

Please be kind.

Edit: water purification business.

Thanks!

Community Mission

Hey guys,

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can support our local SMMEs and informal traders. Most of them have a basic social media presence, but they don't actually own their digital footprint.

The biggest barrier is usually cost and tech-know-how. But it turns out it’s entirely possible for a small business owner to get a functional website up and running for less than R100. Moving them from basic digital existence to true digital mastery is a game-changer for our local economy.

If you know an entrepreneur who needs an online home but doesn't know where to start, Learn with ZAR is offering tools to help:

There is also a growing business hub happening right now to bring these entrepreneurs together. You can check out or join the hub here:

Let's support our local guys. What other low-cost tools have you come across that help informal businesses scale?

Prehistory in durban natural science museum?

Idk if this is the right place to post this, but I'm going to durban on my birthday, mostly for the aquarium and the museum. I've never been to this museum before, only the joburg one, and the joburg natural history museum is pretty run down and not great. The dioramas are broken, there are a lot of spelling mistakes, and not a lot of prehistory related things. I'm wondering if it's similar in durban or if the standards are better? I also can't find any proper information on how much there is there related to prehistory. I know there is some kind of T-rex statue and possibly a dodo skeleton, but that's all I saw. I would love to see the dioramas of current animals and such too, but one of my special interests is prehistory, so it would be really exciting if there were more things about dinosaurs and stuff like that. Ty :)

John Dunn, an early trader and pioneer of Natal and became the famous "White Chief of the Zulus". He had 48 Zulu wives and 117 children.

He betrayed King Cetshwayo and the Zulu nation during the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War by siding with the British. He initially sought to remain neutral,

but abandoned his long-time allies, after the British threatened to hang him as a traitor.

I was swarmed by a group of teens recording me in the mall. So unhappy

Disclaimer im in rural kzn. I had some shopping to do so went to the nearest big town mall with my 8 month old in tow. We had a long day, both of us were tired, the baby was ready to sleep. She was fussy so I took her out of her pram and had her in my arms while walking to my last stop before going home.

As we approach the shop a big group of teens walks past and then approaches asking me to hold the baby. I said no and that she is very tired. They then surround me, theres like 8 of them, and pull out phones to start recording, and saying aaah let us hold her please and speaking in Zulu which I didn't understand. I felt under SO much pressure. I was afraid of starting an altercation if I told them to go away and being recorded in a bad light. One of them then touches and kisses my baby!!! I am so upset. We got away from there and I cleaned my baby's face in the shop. She was also now screaming and crying. Baby's are very susceptible to germs specifically passed when being kissed, by anyone. I have been so strict about this and now I feel like such a failure.

Please, please, please tell the kids in your family/community that this behavior is not okay! Tell them why they should never kiss or touch other people's babies. I'm just so shocked. I feel so violated to be recorded like that in public. It is not an okay thing to do. I was just so tired and wanted to zone out while doing my shopping with my baby. I was polite to these kids and I am so upset now, they actually deserved some harsh words but in the moment I wanted to get away. Never again. Gen z is so lost.

Is it safe to travel at 3am in Durban?

I’ll be travelling through King Shaka and my flight is at 6am. Boarding will be at 5am meaning I have to arrive at the airport around 4am. I do not drive so will be taking an Uber, my location is about 40 minutes away from the airport. I am a bit concerned though and wanted to ask those with experience how safe it is to travel with Uber at this time? I’m not a frequent flyer so this would be my first time leaving home at this time.
