Hi everyone :) Longtime lurker, first time poster. Would love to hear what you have to say about me based on my current read – "Dr Zhivago" by Boris Pasternak – and my next reads, being:

1. "Twilight of the Eastern Gods" by Ismail Kadare

2. "The Testaments" by James Frey (which I'm reading on a recommendation from a friend)

3. "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie

4. "Vellum: Book of all hours" by Hal Duncan

(PS. sorry if this isn't allowed. I'm hoping to move soon, have enough space to unpack all my books, and finally have a bookshelf.)

I owe several people apologies for not trying it sooner. It's even better than my favourite Samyang Buldak (Quattro cheese) – and a fraction of the price.

Only thing, I tried Mi Goreng Hot & Spicy and either my heat tolerance is now higher than I realised or this isn't actually that spicy 🤔💭

Hi friends. I'm looking for somewhere/someone to refurbish the strap on this 10+ year old handbag. Any recommendations would be appreciated

I jumped into Doctor Zhivago to have context for Kadare's Twilight of the Eastern Gods (which I will be reading next). I truly enjoyed the first 100 or so pages. It was so dynamic and beautifully written.

But now at around the 150 page mark, I find myself slogging through. It's quite boring and the writing (or translation) has also lost a lot of its charm and character.

I'll still push through and finish it, regardless of how long it takes, but I hope that it picks up and I can start enjoying it again.

What are your thoughts about Doctor Zhivago?
