What a game man had so much fun, I really could see why people praised the gameplay. Once it all clicked (aka hella abusing the broken stuff) I couldn't stop playing.

As for my roster it's probably one of the most basic sets ever lol. I wanted to use the lords but besides Ivy they honestly weren't that great at the start... Though by the end they could all hold their own. Timerra busting out 200+ damage from nowhere will always be funny 😂

Alear in that GTA6 cover girl pose (OC)

Featuring the Pepsi-can™.

u/arctic746 — 1 day ago

I'm coming to terms with the fact that Engage might be the last great SRPG ever made

The more information and gameplay clips we get the more I am realizing that Fortune's Weave is just going to be Three Houses 2.0, in all the worst ways. If it does well, I don't see why they would ever deviate from this formula ever again and the series will just become more and more focused on the mediocre storytelling and repeat the same mid gameplay over and over again.

I know people are going to say that we just need to wait and see but Engage just did so many things right on the gameplay front that I think it may have been lightning in a bottle. I'm praying I'm wrong, but my excitement for FW is turning into dread day by day. I love Engage, a top 5 game of all time for me, but I just don't want to look back in 15 years and realize it was peak.

Need some help rounding out my army heading into late game, Maddening/Classic.

I am so mad I avoided this game for this long. After playing three houses, which I genuinely did not like at all, as I found gameplay, and map design pretty basic, and it felt like they put social sim aspects first before making an actual fun tactics game (story was actual good atleast, first one I really enjoyed since path of radiance/radiant dawn) that I pretty much disregarded anything new relating to fire emblem afterwards.

Well long story short I saw this game at a local gameshop for like $15 and figured why not. And it has without doubt become my favorite FE game in terms of gameplay (gameplay only though, this story and characters are just LOL, gives me a nice laugh in between maps at least), and I’m not even done with it yet, it’s just feels so well designed and balanced, reminiscent of fates conquest.

Anyway, with that said, I’m on my first playthrough, maddening/classic, mostly blind, and I’m heading into chaptet 19, and I just want to finalize some units skill/emblem choices. Probably be easier if I just list my army and spell out my thoughts and maybe someone can help steer me in the right direction or recommend some stuff.

I DON’T HAVE DLC, I DO HAVE THE FREE FEH PACK FROM THE ESHOP. I’VE BEEN USING WELL SINCE THE START AND HAVE CLOSE TO 8K SP BANKED, SO FEEL FREE TO RECOMMEND SOME EXPENSIVE SKILLS. ALSO FINE WITH MINOR SPOILERS ON FUTURE RECRUITS/EMBLEMS AND WHATNOT.

UNITS

ALEAR - DIVINE DRAGON/BYLETH
He’s been support the entire game, started with Alfonse S bond ring w/ his personal giving allies a massive attack boost all game until I got some rings that really took advantage of DD class.

His current skills are - CANTER / ??

Not sure what else to get on him, based on the emblems I have- Dual Support seems pretty good? But I have canter, so I don’t really put him in a position where he has to worry about taking damage. Draconic Hex with a Levin Sword incase I’m not dancing/supporting that turn for some sweet debuffs? Is there anything else that could benefit him as a mainly support unit?

KAGETSU - WARRIOR/IKE
One of my 2 physical carry units. I went Warrior as I don’t really like having more than 2 combat flyers, and I had those spots taken already. I can pretty much park him in any dangerous/troublesome area and aslong as I don’t pull like 10 enemies he’ll usually come out alive, killing most of them, but it’s been getting sketchy lately with all the chain attacks I’ve been running into on the last few maps/paralogues.

His current loadout is - REVANCHE+3 (crit engraving, 74 crit no buffs) LONGBOW+1, and TOMAHAWK+3

His current skills are - SPEED+3 / ??

I currently have 2k SP banked on him, so I have options without having to burn SP books. I was contemplating between a few skills- Vantage/++ (since we got wrath from ike), Pair Up (since chain attacks have been my bane lately), Hold Out/++ (for extra security), Adaptability (betwen Ragnell when engaged, Tomahawk for 2 Range, Revanche for 1 Range and Longbow to counter Thorons/Longbows, it feels like it has potential?) (or just go with Canter) Maybe even use some SP books and swap speed+3 for speedtaker since he has no issues going on killing sprees, if not will obviously increase the speed+ to cap when I can afford it after getting a second skill.

PANDREO - MAGE KNIGHT/SIGURD(temporary?)
One of my 2 magical carries. Great unit, great speed, great damage, great res stat. Not much else to say about him. He’s currently holding Sigurd as I didn’t know where else to put him, but it’s not bad by any means, he gets free canter, momentum for extra damage, and can still overdrive with a levin sword if needed. Will probably put one of the more magical oriented emblems on him when I get more back.

His current loadout is - Levin Sword+3 (with avoid engraving incase I need to park him somewhere to pull in a few enemies), and some backup tomes.

His current skills are - SPEED+3 / ??

So I don’t have a dedicated avoid tank. Pandreo with the engraving sits at around 100 base avoid. Not enough to reliably avoid tank but works sometimes. I was thinking maybe.. build further into it? Maybe like Sword Agility or something (no idea when I get marth back or if this is even worth it). I’ve tried using avoid tanks earlier in the game and had very mixed results with either having too much avoid where enemies ignore me, or not enough to where I take an unlucky hit and it’s over. So if not that.. maybe something to further boost damage like Sword Power? Or just go for Canter when I eventually swap Sigurd off him?

CHLOE - WYVERN KNIGHT/LYN
So I had her Lance Griffin literally all game and she was doing okay up until a few chapters ago where she just became a staff bot pretty much. I had 2 energy drops banked, and hate benching units that have been with me for a while, so I pivoted to Wyvern Knight, gave her the 2 energy drops, put Lyn emblem on her, grabbed her Lance Power+3 and had Canter from earlier, and shes an absolute monster now. Can’t do exactly what Kagetsu does, but she is an extremely strong unit now, can double everything and pretty much one round any unit, decent Astra Storm damage, zero regrets.

She uses a Fensalir+4 (which doesn’t affect her speed at all), Killer Lance+3, Javelin+3, and Levin Sword+3 incase physical isn’t cutting it vs armored units

Don’t think I’m gonna list more for her cuz she’s pretty much done, unless you guys recommend a different emblem for her and if someone else can utilize Lyn better or she can utilize a different emblem better, I would be open to suggestions.

IVY - LINDWURM/CORRIN(temporary?)
My other main magical unit/carry. I feel she could be a lot better, and she has become mostly a support unit, albeit a VERY good one. With 3 ranged tomes and draconic hex/dreadful aura locks down, she does very good ranged damage, debuffs the enemy even if she missed the attack and can lock down units from afar, and actually kind of like Corrin on her, even though I’m wasting the dragon vein utility.

My issue is I kind of messed up the skill inheritance (i think), I grabbed speed+3 AND speedtaker, and even with these she still has trouble doubling with a forged Bolganone (engraved to be lower weight, so she only loses 1 speed), and I have to feed her a lot of kills to get her going, but she does exactly what I need her to do with a Thoron and Corrin’s kit.. so I don’t really need her to kill things. I do however have 2 speedwings just collecting dust, and was thinking of giving them to her, dropping speedtaker, getting speed+3 to speed+5 and getting her canter as a secondary skill and hopefully this makes her more combat oriented. In doing so, I can swap Corrin to potentially Veyle (i was pretty positive i was going to recruit her so I looked it up) as she can use 3 range tomes AND take advantage of Dragon Veins, and give Ivy a more suitable emblem for combat. Does this seem worth it?

LOUIS/GOLDMARY - GREAT KNIGHTS/LEIF
So as with Chloe, Louis has been with me for a long time and I’ve kept him level’d up so he still contributes. He currently has 23 base Str and 32 base def. I currently have resolve on him, which when proc’d gets him to 37 def, which is enough to tank/hold down some enemies, but he gets doubled by everything. I don’t want to bench him, and want to try to make the tank thing work. I was thinking of getting Resolve+ and then grabbing Def+3 for now, which would put him at 42 defense, which is more than enough to tank quite a few troublesome enemies such as bowknights, swordmasters, wolf knights, wyverns, etc, with his biggest issue being Berserkers and ofcourse Magic. I don’t need him to be untouchable like he was early game, just good enough to hold a chokepoint or pull aggro against a few troublesome enemies for a turn or 2.

So I’m just curious for anyone that has attempted and/or used Louis as a tank all the way through lategame, what did you do exactly in terms of Skills? He currently has a Silver Greatlance with accuracy engraving so he has potential to deal massive damage. I also have 2 seraph robes, and a dracoshield that could potentially go to making him more viable.. but don’t want to waste them.

I mention Goldmary because I also made her a great knight, she has such a massive speed boost on her when compared to Louis, that I contemplated swapping them, but I hate benching long term characters. The only thing Louis has right now over her is 2 hp, 2 def, and about 4str, and she has 17 base speed to his 11 base speed, not sure how much this will help in the long run but I can see the benefit short term (plus she could catch up to him defense wise with some favoritism). So I don’t know what to do here.. and I hate the idea of benching Louis.

MERRIN - WOLF KNIGHT/LUCINA
She just does a mix of everything between- good damage to units like mages and other low def units (steel dagger+4), can do some avoid shenanigans (had a iron dagger+4 w/ micaiah engraving thats been passed between yunaka to zelkov to now merrin) but I don’t really rely on it, very long range chain attacks, as well as debuffing+chip damage on tankier enemies. However I do have 4 cavalry units, so bonded shield does come into play sometimes when I keep her with Pandreo & Louis/Goldmary.

Her current skills are - SPEED+3/DRACONIC HEX

She already has tons of speed, so not sure why I even grabbed the speed skill (and even more w/ max bond lucina), didn’t have many choices when I first got her, and this was a cheap option. Since shes mostly chip damage on stronger enemies, and can set up kills really easy for my other units (poison + draconic hex), I was contemplating dropping Speed+3 for Canter to reposition her into safety after debuffing enemies? Or does anyone have any other recommendations in terms of Emblems, Class, Skills?

ALCRYST - UNIQUE CLASS/EIRIKA
So I needed a dedicated archer, ignored Etie early game outside of a few kills, saw Alcryst had Luna and high Dex and wanted to try him out, by the time I got Fogado I felt I was too far invested into Alcryst to drop him now. When he works, he works REALLY good and can straight up one shot things sometimes that he has no business doing lol.

His current skills are - SPEED+3 / CANTER

He’s using a crit engraved Killer Bow+4, Steelbow+4, and Longbow+1. I have some extra stat boosters like an extra Energy Drop laying around, some speedwings (already gave him secret books for extra Dex, he’s at like 34 w/Eirika stat boosts) and seems like he could be a good candidate for them, as he’s still rather slow and STR can be unreliable at times if I don’t proc the personal every turn. But I’m also not sure if a better emblem could pair with him, or if I should grab some better skills, let me know.

HORTENSIA/LINDON/SEADALL
These last 3 round out my army. Just got Lindon and was using Framme as a staffbot, so I benched her and made Lindon a Griffin Knight so him and Hortensia have tons of potential as flying staff users. Seadall just dances… obviously.

They all currently have Canter taking up one skill slot. I have no idea what to put in the other slot, nor do I have any idea what future emblems could pair with them. Any help here would be great.

——

Didn’t plan on turning this into this much text, my apologies lol. Hopefully this board is still active and if anyone is able to offer me some advice on rounding any of these units out I’d greatly appreciate it.

For anyone that does comment/help, thanks in advance!

Do enemies from the Tower trigger Anna’s Skill?

Basically title. I’m currently on maddening and my Anna is underleveled so is kinda hard to get her to kill without dying.

I know on maddening enemies from the tower do not give any XP/SP but do they at least trigger Anna skill to get some Gold on the lowest difficulty?

Third Maddening Play-through (Classic), first time not using the well or free goodies

Basically I really wanted to play through Engage again, but I let a family member borrow my copy of the game so I emulated it. Got it running smoothly, but I ended up getting an early version of the game before the well was added as well as the free stuff like the weapons/rings from Fire Emblem Heroes, or even recreation (I didn't even know that was a feature added after the game was released). I decided to roll with it and see how not having those things would change my experience. Fixed mode too, since it was a new game and all.

The major thing I missed was the SP books from the well. If I wanted to inherit multiple useful skills, it basically meant anything that cost over 1k wasn't viable (except for the late game units who join with a lot of SP). So most of my units just got Canter and Speed+ as they're effective and affordable. I didn't really notice the lack of other stuff from the well, and I still ended up having some spare gold at the end too. I was basically out of bond points though, otherwise more units would have Speed+4 instead of Speed+3.

Quick Ranking (Seadall excluded, because he's a dancers and while dancers are goated, I don't find much interest in comparing them to anything other than dancers from other games, tbh.

  1. Diamant (Honorable...? Mention)- I intended to use him through the whole game and made him a Wyvern because Ivy was my only flier for most of the game. But I forgot how mediocre his growths are and he was a liability most of the time. Dropped him in late Solm.

  2. Alrcryst- Suffered from most of the problems that plagued his brother, low strength and not quite enough speed. He also joins with an awkward amount of SP and I couldn't get him canter before losing the rings. I tried to believe in the Luna procs, but they rarely came through and without them he just did no damage. I know people like him with Lyn, but I'd much rather give her to someone who can reliably do damage. He came in clutch more often with Reposition than he did with Luna, tbh, which I gave him just because it was a cheap but potentially useful skill.

Everyone else was I actually pretty happy with.

  1. Lindon (Celica)- I don't really have negative things to say about him. He's not as strong as most of the units you get mid-game, but he's more than capable of filler and a competent sage if you don't want to reclass him. Staffs are good, he gets 2k SP when he joins, and giving him Draconic Hex+Thorn was some added utility and Celica allowed him to debuff multiple enemies a round while engaged.

  2. Boucheron (Byleth)- While he wasn't great at getting kills by himself, he provided chain attack utility from beginning of the game to the end and had the HP and Speed to basically be able to survive combat with just about any enemy. Also I underestimated how bonkers his build stat is, being able to use Greataxes and Longbows without worrying about getting doubled is really nice. Byleth was nice because he could rally strength, and I wanted him near bosses anyways for chain attacks.

  3. Mauvier (Leif)- Honestly would rank him higher if I could have gotten him earlier. He added flier utility I needed for late game after I reclassed him. No real notes, I just gave him Leif because he made better use of it than Alrcyst.

  4. Veyle (Marth)- Same deal as Mauvier really, she just suffers from the late join time. I was surprised by how well she does with Marth, and she was a solid offensive unit for the end of the game.

  5. Celine (Micaiah)- One of my carries in the early part of the game after forging a Levin Sword. While she does fall off offensively, she can still do some damage and is a good support unit since she can naturally use staves in her personal class and break axe-users with the levin sword. But once I got Miaciah back she was mostly on staffing duty, as I didn't really want to put her on someone else.

  6. Timerra (Ike)- I've heard mixed things about Timerra, saying how underrated she is or how bad she is. She turned out better than I thought she would, but I also know a lot of that is probably from Ike and how he works well with her personal skill. Regardless, she was one of my few physically tanky units, and she didn't get to the point to where enemies would ignore her, so she gets bonus points for that. I just wish her build stat in her personal class wasn't so bad.

  7. Alear (Roy)- Hadn't tried magic Alear yet, and thought I'd give it a go. I did end up giving her most (if not all) of the Spirit Dust I got throughout the game. It was a little rough at first with how low her damage was, but she got pretty decent by mid-solm and was solid by the mid-late game. Roy is just a great stat stick for anyone really and she could make use of the sword perks in mage knight.

  8. Goldmary (Sigurd)- Honestly the surprise build of the run for me. I originally planned to keep her in Hero, but I really felt like I needed someone else to take physical hits. I used her in General previously and she had too much defense, but Great Knight has her her defense at just about the right point to where she'll take a little damage from most physical attackers. And giving her Speed+ and Build+ allows her to double some middling speed enemies and avoid being doubled from most things, even with a Silver Greatlance or Spear equipped. And Sigurd is just nice for zooming around and getting her where I needed her.

  9. Framme (Lucina)- Lucina on a QI adept is just broken and it's something I feel like I can't go without. While I do think Alear is a little better in this role (since they can pull staves out of the convoy), Framme is better offensively compared to them with fists, which was useful on occasion. And chain guarding is pretty useful when you can't bonded shield, too.

  10. Ivy (Lyn)- Just really solid throughout, and Lyn fixes her speed and hit rate problem for the most part. Flying and staves are nice too. I gave her resolve because she already has good natural bulk, but maybe I should have just given her Speed+ to more easily double enemies at the beginning of maps to get speedtaker going.

  11. Pandreo (Corrin)- Basically just a better Ivy without flying. He may not have speedtaker but his speed and build still lets him double most stuff. I really like Corrin on Mystical units for the Fire AoE, and he could still debuff from 3 spaces away with Thoron if needed. O

  12. Merrin (Eirika)- She was basically my answer to most problems. I needed a specific enemy dealt with, she could kill them or get in their way and dodge their attack. Eirika fixes her damage problem, she doubles basically everything, crits often, dodges often, and a forged iron dagger is all she really needs. I gave her a levin sword too (which helped a little against armored units) and a Killing Edge when the Iron Dagger wasn't quite enough to kill but a crit would. I gave her momentum instead of Speed+ since she's already speedy and it's a cost effective damage skill.

Overall a fun run, even if I used mostly basic builds and quite a few of the typical units. I'd recommend it if you've beaten Maddening before and want a little more challenge but nothing too crazy.

Have I screwed myself?

So I've been building a team of 10 (Alear (DD), Anna(MK), Diamant(Prf), Ivy(Prf), Pandreo(Sage), Kagetsu((WyvernK, Merrin(Wolf), Panette(Warrior), Chloe(Gryphon), and Hortensia(Prf)) but now I've got 12 deployment slots and no one is of a decent level to fill them. Should I wait for new recruits or train up old ones? And who is worth training? I'm considering attempting to train Lapis into something, I like her design, but Swordmaster seems unimpressive, and I'm trying to have no class overlap. Maybe hero for her? Bu i'm not sure if she's good.

Any advice is appreciated

Is Lucina worth being in Qi Adept units?

I see a lot of people using the popular Framme + Lucina, but it feels hard to justify because you are already chain guarding. Why not use both with different units in the same turn? What am I missing

Favorite Diamant build?

His Japanese VA sounds so good haha, I’m a Diamant fan! Planning an all male units run and wanted to use him. I’ve used him twice before but just in Successeur(sp?) with I believe Roy & Leif. Wanted to see if anyone had any builds that work well on him, whether it be in that same class but just different emblem & skill suggestions, or something different all together.

Unpopular question: Who would be the most likely to betray the Divine Army?

If push came to shove, which character do you think would betray Alear and team for various reasons? (Other than Veyle and Rafal, they don't count)

[Alear Vander, Framme, Clanne, Alfred, Boucheron, Etie, Jean, Celine, Louis, Chloe, Yunaka, Anna, Alcryst, Citrine, Lapis, Diamant, Amber, Jade, Ivy, Zelkov, Kagetsu, Fogado, Bunet, Pandreo, Timerra, Merrin, Pannete, Hortensia, Seadall, Rosado, Goldmary, Lindon, Saphir, Mauvier, Nel, Zelestia, Gregory, Madeline]

  1. Who would defect to Sombron's side,

  2. And for what reasons?

Favorite Alfred build?

Hi all! I’d love to use him in my next run as he’s one of my favorite characters, but haven’t had luck in the past sadly. was thinking since I have DLC now that it might unlock skills or emblems that could help him more? Either way, whether DLC or not, please lmk your favorite builds for him! Tysm ☺️

Maddening w/ DLC PMU

Hey everyone! Looking to do a PMU for a new Engage run.

I've already locked in 3 units:

  • Alear - Wolf Knight + Lucina
  • Céline - Vidame + Byleth
  • Madeline - Great Knight + Camilla

Looking for the remaining 11 units/classes/emblems.

A few requests:

  • No meme or completely unusable builds.
  • I'd like to use some classes that don't see much play.

Characters I'm most interested in using are: Lapis, Jade, Kagetsu, Zelkov, Rosado, Bunet, and Diamant.

That said, I'm definitely open to just about everything if you've got a fun idea.

Feel free to suggest a unit, class, emblem, and inherited skills if you have something specific in mind. Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!
