Current state of matchmaking

I was thinking of building a pc and getting back into games I used to love 4-5 years ago such as cs, r6, insurgency. it seems the current state of matchmaking in the games is terrible and full of cheaters and it’s almost putting me off buying another computer although I would love to start play fps games again.

Is there any other games going these days and is the cheater problem not as bad as I believe it to be?

What FPS shooters are people playing these days?

I’m going through a bit of a dry spout for games to play right now there’s some new games I want but just can’t justify paying 90$ for games anymore.

With that being said, what FPS shooters are people playing these days??

I grew up playing BO2, BO3, BO4, MW remastered all the good COD games I used to grind. As I grew up I got more into the seige and CSGO gaming but gets old after a while.

I’m really craving just a good old TDM FPS (wish I could go back to those prime BO days). I tried to hop back on BO2 and just play againts some bots as I’m not willing to do all the modding but just doesn’t hit the same.

Anyway, my question is what’s some good shooters like that? Is the new COD any good? Doesn’t seem to have good reviews at all and is quite expensive but just really craving that FPS TDM!!

Thanks!

Empulse?

Has anyone actually played this game and would you give me your opinions on it. It loks fun but haven't seen virtually any conversation of the game.

What would make you try a new multiplayer game from a small independent studio?

Perhaps this question is more for people playing multiplayer FPS games. With the gaming market being as chaotic as it is today with plenty of options popping up throughout the year, what are the factors that pique your curiosity to try out a new game that aren't from a well established/well funded game studio?

What can smaller indie devs do in the multiplayer space that is being ignored by bigger studios?

Concept art for the Loony Tunes inspired source mod I'm working on

Idk if I'll keep the stun. Will probably replace it with direct damage based on velocity or maybe make it a slow instead

I'm making a pvp boomer shooter named Bloodspill and the Demo is out now.

Bloodspill is heavily inspired by Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena.
Hope you enjoy the demo <3

Realistic fps recommendations????

can anyone recommend me a really realistic fps, especially a game where you can customize the balls out of your weapons (as in attachments). it doesn't have to be multiplayer, i just love games that focus on realism and gun details literally turns me on

Online FPS is in a terrible state

CS2 = Players abuse vote kick in a way that would put Caligula to shame.
Tf2 = saturation
Overwatch = Trash MM, Blizzard.
marvel rivals = MM made specifically and academically (since there is patents over this) to turn you into an addict. Literally a Digital Drug. it Should have Hazard Labels like Cigarettes' does.
Apex = Hacks Vs Bots, Also if you go to their reddit the first Post is the Current Main Problems of the game which is the same since the game opened. MM made specifically to favor 3 stack team. Idk what happens at Respawn, either total negligence or just dont matter because adrenaline addicts cant quit it anyway. (also 20hz in 2026)
Valorant = I have not played this since it opened idk.
PUBG = Hacks Vs Lesser Hacks. Lag, whoever has the lowest Ping wins.

Ive been playing Online FPS Since StarSiege: tribes 1.8 (the best fps ever), since 2000s, and i really like Online FPS, hero shooters, But god, it is so much issues, so little fixes.
I blame mostly MM, i grew up in Community Servers, We had Social, We knew people, we had Democracy (not VoteKick abuse like CS), we had auto-balance, we had scramble.

We had it all. We had it.

Games that support custom match

"I am a fairly good FPS player, but I am sick and tired of the hackers in shooter games across different platforms. They ruin the fun of the game. So, I decided to play custom matches and invite my friends or find people from Reddit to play against. Are there any games that support custom matches, preferably similar to Battlefield or Call of Duty? I don't care about XP or anything else; I just want to play with real people without having to deal with the hacker problem."

What Actually makes a good online fps game?

TLDR; I love making metrics and tier lists and wanted to share what I have so far and also hear from the community;

I've been going through the steam summer sale looking at considerations for good online fps games to play with my cousins given the battlefield games are only a few dollars, and we really enjoy playing them together (Overwatch, most of the COD games, new to the battlefield games, etc)

we both bought battlefield 1 but didn't play online more than once, the gameplay was super fun, really enjoyed campaign and I really liked how squads worked but there wasn't much variety in game modes that were still active; was super excited to try the dogfights but never found a match, where there were servers active the match time was a just a bit too long for us;

This was a good game but just not for us, which lead me down a rabbit hole that begs the question "what actually makes a good online fps game"? Like what are the most enjoyable metrics, not "critic" centric?

These are mine, and basically constitute what I consider a 5/5; do you agree? disagree? what are yours?

Gunplay

Every weapon has its own "feel" and attachments that create real strategy and trade-offs rather than flat stat bumps. For example, my favourite load out to this day is the ninja one from the new MW2 (heart beat monitor
+ smoke screen = knifing goodness)

Game modes

The game modes are actually active, I can run them both online and offline, they flow really well based on the maps and compliment the perk/squad system in the game and they are genuinely memorable. I'm talking BO2 stick fight levels.

Movement

Its hard to explain this one but every movement feels satisfying, wether its the Black Ops running on walls or MW immersive type, it not only fits in with the other themes in the game but enhances it.

Online Maps

| love maps with different positioning and flanking strategies instead of just one hotspot - Also maps that don't feel empty with a full lobby is pretty big one.

Online Play / Squads

Roles and classes actually matter - doesn't have to be strictly enforced but we can run squad play with different roles that contribute to the win - especially in tourney and hardcore matches.

Campaign

The missions are fresh and introduce something new each time. I don't want my campaign to just feel like a reskin again and again. I don't mind short campaigns if they make me want to replay them and leave an impression. The gold standard here is the original MW2 stealth missions for me.
