Catholics with Indian heritage in Nadi?

Been reading historical articles and just wondering since there are so many Fijians with Indian heritage are there any Catholics who've hailed from India or SL?

Couldn't find many with the typical Portuguese surnames so just curious about what their culture is like

Fiji's Dark History: The Era of the Cannibal Kings. Read the full history and listen to the original recording of the death drum beat (Lali ni Bokola) at the link below!

Before the arrival of Christianity, the intense echo of the Lali ni Bokola (death drum) signaled a grim fate for captured enemies brought back to the village.

I put together a historical deep dive into how tribal conflict operated, the rules of the chiefs, and tracked down the original audio rhythm of the drum so you can hear history for yourself.

Private hospital in Suva is trying to extort money from me for a minor surgery (non-resident)

As the title suggest, a private hospital in Suva is trying their best to extort extra money from us. We visited both a dermatologist and a surgeon in the same hospital. While the dermatologist is in-house doctor, the surgeon was actually a professor and an external specialist. This being said, the hospital is never able to provide a price straight away and there is a minimum of a 24h waiting time just to get a price for a surgery that will take a total of 5min according to the professor. For this minor skin cut(nothing really complicated according to the dermatologist), the hospital asked initially 3250F$ - the price to have it done with the professor. Ok, we decided to try the “cheaper “ (in our heads) option - so we visited the dermatologist and after a thorough examination he confirmed that the minor surgery will not cost more than 2000F$ at max. Now, this is a private hospital where the visits are usually out-of-pocket unless the visitor (foreign or local) has a Fijian private insurance to cover for the cost.
After visiting the dermatologist, we had to wait another 24h for a new quotation. However, we have already enquired about the same procedure just a week earlier with the surgeon and we believe our surname was one to remember at the quotation team office. The new price estimate is 3650F$ - same surgery, dermatologist in stead of surgeon as the one to make the incision. The details on the NEW quotation include a 1000f$ non-resident fee. Literally out of the blue since the first quotation did not contain such a fee, but in stead had an admin fee of 1000f$. This is basically extortion just because we are foreigners. However, as I see it - should I negotiate (try to), or being visibly looking differently will always place me in the light of a BANK for this private hospital? For reference, I contacted another private practice in Nadi and the doctor (GP) gave me a total price of 1300f$ and this is why I allow myself to call the above practice of the private hospital in Suva extortion.
Any advice on how to deal with this - will be highly appreciated. Ultimately will be best to have the price of the private hospital adjusted in a fair way.

Samoan group that went to the Worlds Fair, Chicago, 1893

Talofa and bula. I'm Meli, a Fijian filmmaker currently working on a documentary about a Fijian falla who went to Canada in the 1800s.

On his journey, he actually went to Samoa, before joining a samoan group who went to the Worlds Fair, Chicago, in 1893 to showcase the island culture (though were relegated to the 'exotic' side of the grounds. It was the late 1800s of course).

I've got research of him with the samoan dancers at the Worlds Fair but I want to know how the hell did Samoa end up sending a team all the way to Chicago in 1893.

Does anyone know of any Samoan researchers who have written about the Samoan Expedition?

Oh, and see if you can pick the Fijian falla in the photo taken from the World's Fair book.

Anyone got old photos of the interior garden at Nadi Airport?

I believe it was at Departures, now replaced with Burger king.

Was a smallish strip of plants and trees with a pebbled path through it, but still unique in my opinion. Singapore didnt have one until years later.

Which two Yasawa Islands for a 7 day trip?

I’m going to Fiji in July for 7 days with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. We are in our mid-20s and will be flying in from Nadi and leaving from there too. As we’re only in Fiji for 7 days and we don’t want to constantly be travelling, I’m thinking that we could do two islands. If you had to recommend one or two islands that we must go to, what would you suggest? Thank you!

Visiting Fiji for nearly 3 weeks advice

Hi everyone I’m coming to Fiji for the very first time!

I’ll be there in about two weeks but haven’t done much planning…

I’m a surfer and I am coming with my girlfriend who doesn’t really surf (or very beginner level).

Does anyone have a rough guide of what we can do so we can both enjoy our trips?

What islands should we visit, how long to stay in each place, where’s the best place to stay for non-surfing activities? We both love all other ocean activities as well :)

Any other general tips would be really appreciated.

I am so excited to visit this great country that I’ve heard so many good things about!

What country should I add in a trip to Fiji for 10 days!

Hello

I am planning to visit Fiji for the first time and I was considering adding another country so I could visit two countries instead of one only. What are possible options?

I am planning to visit Fiji on Jan or Feb and travel from the US. I am considering allocating a maximum of 10 days for this trip. I have no major budget issues and I enjoy different travel styles including beach and city but I usually do not like to spend a lot of time in a single location (no need to "relax" 5 days in a same beach town!).

Thanks

Gut Check on Two Week Itinerary

Background: Young couple who loves to explore, fine with moving to new spot every few days so see more of the places we travel, snorkeling, and soaking up sun on a beach or by a pool all with a preference of laid back, romantic atmosphere. We also may get scuba certified before the trip.

We’re leaning towards utilizing the Yasawa Adventures Pass to travel around surrounding islands.

Plan:

(August 3rd) Day 1 – Land in Nadi at 5:20am and hop on 8:45am ferry to spend to one night at South Sea Island in the Mamanuca Regio

Day 2-4 – Depart South Sea Island at 9:15am, arrive at Octopus Resort for two nights in the Yasawa gateway region

Day 4-6 – Depart Octoupus Resort at 10:50am, arrive at Paradise Cove in Mantaray region for two nights

Day 6-9 – Depart Paradise Cove at 11:25am, arrive at Oarsman’s Beach lodge for three nights

Day 9-13 Depart Oarsman’s Beach lodge and TBD. We’re trying to decide if we should tack on an extra day or two to a few regions (Mantaray Island Resort looks beautiful), and/or potentially use some hotel points and stay at a really nice resort on an island near or at Nadi (Vomo or Likuliku Lagoon Resort) for the last few nights. We would also have a day pass to Malamala beach club we could use one of these days.

(August 15th) Day 13 – Fly home at 9pm from nadi

Any and all feedback would be appreciated!
