Bait and switch when signing up

I just signed up for FIOS and when I was signing up it said they were waving the $99 install fee. After I agree to everything it is now saying the $99 will be on the first bill.
To add insult to injury when I reach out to support to get it taken off they say the best they can do is halve it so I ask for a supervisor and the agent says the supervisor can’t do any better.
Ok, cool. Cancel the install.
Then he says, no wait. My supervisor can fix it. So first y’all want to bait and switch me on the price then you lie?
At this point I don’t trust Version. Not only am I sticking with Xfinity (a statement I never thought I’d say) but I’m filing a complaint with my state’s utility commission

DC Area Unusual Latency?

Has anyone in the DC area noticed highly variable latency in the past 2-3 days? I went from like avg 10-20ms ping, to my ping graph looking like a heart beat, now averaging over 100ms, and shooting up to over 1000ms latency. Resetting router/ONT didn't help, and all ONT lights are solid green, no flashing, so I don't think its any equipment failure.

Has anyone actually gotten their SSO app authentication issue fixed?

Since Friday I’ve been unable to authenticate TV apps with my Fios login credentials and customer support has not been helpful at all. It feels like they don’t even know the cause of it. Hilariously they’ve opened a service ticket which states that the issue will be resolved tomorrow by 5pm. I don’t see any evidence that it’s actually been fixed for anyone. I’m aware that it’s a widespread, longstanding problem.

Help with router

I’m not having an issue connecting to my router, however, whenever I try to go on social media or stream video on my TV it does not load. My Roku says the download speed is slow and when I test it on Verizon‘s website, it literally says it’s downloading 12 MBPS and uploading 5MBPS. However, when I use the website to troubleshoot the slow service it said I had over 300 Mbps for both download and upload, which is what the person on the phone told me as well. I’m not really sure what to do I’ve restarted my router in every way I can. The person on the phone was pretty rude to me, saying it was literally impossible that it was running that slow and claiming I only had one device connected to my Wi-Fi (I don’t see what that has to do anything but that’s not true either lol). I’m feeling very frustrated and I really can’t afford to take time out of work to meet a technician here. they also said since it appears nothing is wrong They would probably charge me so I am feeling stressed about it please help!!

Months of intermittent Frontier fiber latency and finally narrowed it down to the garage MoCA adapter, but support barely listened.

TL;DR: I have Frontier 1 Gig fiber, but because my house was not wired for Ethernet, the connection travels from the garage ONT through two Frontier FCA252 MoCA adapters and the home’s coax wiring before reaching my eero Pro 7.

For months, the whole network has randomly entered a severely degraded state with latency reaching 1,000–2,400+ ms and occasional packet loss, even though my local connection to the eero stays around 4 ms. The issue affects multiple computers and phones, so it is not limited to one Wi-Fi device.

I discovered and removed an old four-way coax splitter that was incorrectly connected OUT-to-OUT, which noticeably improved speeds, but the severe latency eventually returned. Restarting the eero did not help, and the problem remained overnight. Power-cycling only the older garage-side FCA252 immediately restored normal latency.

Frontier support saw normal speeds after the connection recovered, said everything looked fine, tried to sell me a $10/month device-support service, and warned that a technician could cost $150. After a long chat, they finally agreed to ship another FCA252.

I’m now testing whether the older garage MoCA adapter, its power supply, Ethernet cable, or the ONT Ethernet handoff is causing the intermittent issue. I’m posting this both to document the experience and to see whether anyone else has dealt with similar Frontier/Verizon-era MoCA problems.

I wanted to share my experience troubleshooting a really frustrating intermittent issue with my Frontier 1 Gig fiber service. I’m also hoping somebody with more experience with Frontier’s ONTs and FCA252 MoCA adapters can tell me whether my diagnosis makes sense.

For context, my house was built in the early 2000s and was not originally wired with Ethernet. The Frontier fiber terminates at an ONT in the garage. From there, the connection travels like this:

Fiber → ONT → Ethernet → Frontier FCA252 MoCA adapter in the garage → existing coax through the house → second FCA252 in the family room → Ethernet → eero Pro 7 gateway.

When the connection is working normally, the eero reports around 950–980 Mbps in both directions. Devices near the router can also get close to gigabit speeds.

The problem is that, randomly, the entire internet connection will enter a severely degraded state. Websites barely load, Teams calls become unusable, and multiple devices are affected at the same time. Restarting things usually makes it work normally again, which made the problem extremely difficult to explain to support.

I initially thought it was a Wi-Fi issue. I tried a lot:

  • Updated the Intel AX210 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers
  • Eventually replaced the AX210 with a TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 PCIe card
  • Tested WPA2, WPA3, MLO, SQM and client steering
  • Moved the eero Pro 7 out of a recessed wooden entertainment center and closer to the hallway
  • Tested the eero 6 Extender
  • Ran continuous pings to the router, Frontier’s first hop and 1.1.1.1
  • Generated Windows WLAN reports
  • Replaced the family-room FCA252 after Frontier shipped me another one

Some of those changes genuinely improved my local Wi-Fi, but the major intermittent problem still returned.

I also discovered that the coax path in the family room was going through a very old four-way splitter. Even worse, the MoCA signal was connected from one OUT port to another OUT port, while the splitter’s IN port was unused.

I removed the splitter and extra coax jumper completely and connected the house coax directly into the family-room FCA252. That made an immediate improvement. For the first time, I saw nearly 1,000 Mbps over Wi-Fi near the relocated eero.

However, the severe latency eventually returned.

During the latest failure, I recorded:

  • Local eero gateway: 4 ms average, 7 ms maximum, 0% loss
  • First Frontier hop: 296 ms average, 803 ms maximum
  • Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1): 295 ms average, 1,396 ms maximum
  • During another test, 1.1.1.1 showed 5% packet loss, 932 ms average latency and a 2,412 ms maximum

Traceroute showed the latency beginning immediately after my local gateway:

  1. Local eero gateway — normal
  2. First Frontier hop — hundreds of milliseconds
  3. Later Frontier hops — also extremely inconsistent

My desktop, work laptop and iPhone were all affected, while the local connection to the eero remained healthy. The eero’s built-in speed test could still show over 900 Mbps, so this was not simply a permanent low-speed issue.

I restarted only the eero gateway. It did not fix the latency.

I then left everything untouched overnight. The problem was still present the following morning.

That morning, I unplugged only the older FCA252 located inside the garage ONT enclosure. I left it unplugged for about two minutes and then powered it back on.

I did not restart:

  • The ONT
  • The newer family-room FCA252
  • The eero
  • My computer

Immediately after power-cycling only the garage FCA252, latency returned to normal.

That seems to narrow the suspect area to:

  • The older garage FCA252 itself
  • Its power adapter
  • The short Ethernet cable between the ONT and FCA252
  • The garage-side coax connection
  • The ONT’s Ethernet port or handoff

I then contacted Frontier support and supplied all of these measurements. Unfortunately, because their remote test showed approximately 977/968 Mbps after the connection was already working again, they repeatedly told me that everything looked fine.

They also:

  • Focused on the age of my router even though it is a relatively new Frontier-provided eero Pro 7
  • Asked whether the FCA252 power adapter had visible damage
  • Offered me a $10/month “Premium Tech Pro” service for my connected devices
  • Said a technician could cost $150 because the line test currently passed
  • Told me to monitor it for another 48 hours

The frustrating part is that this was never just a complaint about a weak Wi-Fi signal or not receiving gigabit speeds. It is an intermittent equipment or WAN-path problem that disappears after the suspected equipment is restarted.

After a long chat, Frontier did agree to ship another FCA252 adapter. I plan to replace only the garage-side unit, its power supply and cable so I can test it as a controlled variable.

I’m not posting this just to complain. I’m posting because other people may have older Frontier or Verizon-era fiber installations that use coax and MoCA rather than direct Ethernet. If you are experiencing random high latency that temporarily disappears after rebooting equipment, inspect the entire path especially old splitters, unnecessary coax junctions and the MoCA adapters themselves.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced an FCA252 that remains linked but begins producing extreme latency until it is rebooted?
  2. Could a failing power adapter cause this even if the indicator lights remain normal?
  3. Could the ONT Ethernet handoff be entering a bad state that gets cleared when the FCA252 is unplugged?
  4. Is there any way to view MoCA PHY rates, error counts or signal levels on Frontier’s FCA252 adapters?
  5. Would you push Frontier for an ONT replacement if the issue returns after replacing both FCA252 adapters?

I’ll update this post after testing the new garage adapter.

Quantum Gateway Upgrade

I have a G1100 Quantum Gateway Router (it is included in my plan)now for a few years and inquired with Verizon about an upgrade. I don't have any problems with WIFI. They told me that to upgrade, my monthly charges would increase significantly because they could no long include the router in the plan at no charge. What would happen if I started having issues with this router, what would Verizon do as a remedy?

Have you gone back to a CR1000 from a custom router?

i am currently using a Qotom firewall running IPFire and previously, was running OPNSense.

Also an Omada EAP 670 AP with a Docker controller.

The truth is, i’m tired of maintaining these things and miss the simplicity of a CR1000.

i have around 15 devices which almost all are using wifi in a small apt.

Only thing that i’m going to miss is my wireguard server but maybe Tailscale can fix that.

Also, concerned about Verizon snooping on all my data but chances are, they are already doing it since i never bothered in enabling countermeasures on my current configuration.

So I ask, has anyone here done this and feeling/being ok or better after?

Is "pause and play" just standard on Fios TV+ boxes now?

My elderly father has the Fiox TV+ boxes since February of 2025 and for the longest time if I or he pressed the OK button on his remote it would just show the info of the show and keep playing live TV as expected.

Then at one point we got the 90 day DVR promotional shit for free which we never used and I canceled at the end of it, calling in to a rep just to be safe so we didn't get charged. But ever since that free promotion began, when he hit OK on the remote it pauses live TV. The first time I called in to Verzion to have the DVR service canceled, the pause and play feature went away with it, which was great. Then like ten days later it came back. I called in again and they assured me that the DVR service was canceled (which is reflected on his bill) and again after some time the pause and play feature stopped, which was good again. But just now I see that it is once again back. We don't even have a VMS server anymore as I returned it to Verizon.

Does anyone know if this "pause and play" is just a forced feature now? It just keeps coming back even though we have no DVR activated and I've called in twice to cancel it.

Update to my old post regarding Fios coming to my building

I’m the one that posted about 2 months ago about Fios coming to my MDU building in Queens, NYC. Interestingly enough, I checked my mailbox today and there was an advertisement for someone who used to have my apartment unit as a business address and it said “Fios is coming soon to your address!” followed by a link Verizon.com/bizfibercomingsoon. So that got me thinking: I should check on the main website for availability.

I typed in my full address with unit number and service is now available!! My question is: should I wait for a fios rep to knock on my door/get a door knocker in my mailbox, etc? Or is the price I see on the website the price I’ll actually end up being offered?

Thanks in advance!

Question about tv+ box and moca adapter

I've had fios tv and Internet for about 8 months. I have no problems with the Internet. However, I do occasionally have issues on my 2 tv+ boxes. They are fairly minor, but annoying nonetheless. I also don't like being a minute or so behind the live broadcast. Not sure this is a fix for that.

In any event, with hope of getting more stable and smooth tv playback, I just purchased 2 Verizon stream tv moca adapters. But I'm not sure I should have. You see, Fios was installed in my development through Internet only. Even though the router (1000B) and ONT have coax connections, they aren't being used. With that said, can I still use these adapters and if so how would I best set them up.

Please Help Me - I Cannot Reconnect My Rachio3 No Matter What!

Hi, I used to have my Rachio3 connected and running but my WiFi was disconnected for over a week and I cannot reconnect it.

I have a FiOS Router and I also use a Google Mesh system.

I reached out to Rachio and they asked me to try several things and finally sent me the following information.

I just don't know what to do and I cannot figure out why it is so difficult to reconnect it?!

Anyway, this is what they sent me:

First, we received an alert indicating a double NAT situation. This occurs when your internet passes through two separate routers, both of which are performing Network Address Translation (NAT) before reaching the internet connection. This can lead to connectivity issues.

Second, there is a firewall port blocked, which may be causing difficulties in getting the unit online. Ensuring that the necessary ports are open can help resolve this issue.

Third, it appears there is a duplicate SSID detected. This means that there could be two networks using the same name and password, likely one for the 2.4 GHz band and the other for the 5 GHz band. This situation can cause difficulties when trying to connect the controller, as it may be attempting to connect to both networks simultaneously, leading to confusion and connection failures.

Fourth, there's also a merged network. This is when your router supports the two types of bands, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but both are under the same name/password. This can cause difficulties in connecting some devices that only work with one of those bands but not with both at the same time.

For this situation, we recommend that you contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) so they can assist you with the following:

Enabling the ports that may be blocked.

Separating the merged network; they can set up each band with a different name and password.

Checking for double NAT and MESH network issues.

Slow speed on BE63 with Verizon Fios

Hi, just installed a Deco Be63 configured as AP and connected to a Verizon Fios router delivering 1Gb/1Gb. WiFi speeds measured in various places of apartment are systematically way lower on the Deco WiFi compared to the Verizon one when I was expecting at least the same speeds in the exact same configuration.
Anyone has an idea of what the issue might be? Thanks

FIOS qualification

Wanted to shout out u/verizonsupport (retiring soon so it will just be u/verizon). I tried for around TEN YEARS to get FIOS. The next block over had it. I never got a straight answer on the phone. At one point, they made it sound like the town was blocking it (which is odd because the town contracts with Verizon to allow for digging). I went to my legislator. Nothing doing. They even sent someone down once or twice to install - all to no avail. A few years ago, they finally pulled cables and every address showed as eligible (including my upstairs neighbor) - but not mine. Some people on the block even successfully got FIOS. I called, I begged, I went online and chatted, asking for a FAST ticket - nothing worked. On a whim, I decided to private message u/verizonsupport with my details. They answered that they were looking into it. 2 weeks later, I asked for an update. In response, they asked for my name and phone number. I provided it and less than 24 hours later, I got a call from a very nice man named Jesse who asked me a few questions about my address. He told me it should be qualified within a few days. Lo and behold, the next morning, I was able to put my order in! He even followed up with me a few days later to make sure everything worked out. It seems there was just some random glitch or disconnect with the database and he was able to manually take a look at it and fix it easily. To anyone having an issue like this, message Verizon on reddit - it's the easiest, quickest and most pain free way to get it resolved!

When will the QAM to IPTV switch actually happen?

Everyone said mid June mid June that it would be in full effect but here we are, and legacy boxes (1100/4100) are still on QAM. It doesn’t really matter, but don’t push the narrative so strong and make CableCARD, and Tivio users upgrade only for it to be untrue.

Why am I getting gigabit upload speeds on Verizon FIOS wifi, but much slower download speeds?

I recently moved to a new house that is wired for Verizon FIOS. In my previous home, I had Comcast/Xfinity gigabit internet service. I used a Motorola Docsis 3.1 modem and network of two TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro routers. Worked great. Wifi was very solid throughout my home, typically giving me 700-800 Mbps on new/new-ish clients (Samsung 23S phone for example). Upload speeds were terrible but I don't care about upload speed.

I'm now using Verizon FIOS gigabit service, and the Wifi I'm getting is not nearly as fast as Xfinity. Typically around 300-350 Mbps on my Samsung phone that used to be getting 700-800. That's 300-350 even if I'm standing right next to the main router and connected to 6 GHz signal. Channel width is 160 MHz.

I'm not using the Verizon router. My main router is my tested and true Deco XE75 Pro. It's connected to a few other Decos throughout the home. I've also tested with direct ethernet connection from the Deco router to my computer, and I get over 900 Mbps over ethernet, so the FIOS gigabit service is working correctly.

Not only are Wifi download speeds much slower that I used to get with Xfinity, but the Upload wifi speeds are much better than download. I can get approx. 300-350 Mbps Down, 700 to over 800 Mbps up. This is pretty frustrating in that I would much rather swap those speeds (again, not caring all that much about upload).

I've tried all the TP-Link recommendations such as disabling SIP ALG and UPNP NAT forwarding. None of it makes a difference.

If I'm getting gigabit upload speeds on FIOS wifi, shouldn't I also get gigabit download speeds?
