My Beat

I have been making beats for about 2 years self taught I like to sample. What should I improve on?

2 people said it sounded like shit, does it?

Remix of Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman

Context: I know nothing technical about music. I don’t know anything about instruments. I don’t know anything about keys or what mixing vs producing even means or anything. I just like listening to music and want to make it and this is my first true attempt at making something that isn’t random apple loops. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t good.

Context 2: when I posted this to Snapchat the actual quality of the entire song itself was very low. I’m using a very old iPhone and an old version of GarageBand that I can’t update so I’m assuming this is why? If anyone has advice on how to fix this, please let me know, (I’m actually so terrified it’s permanent) but this lower sound quality is not what I’m referring to. You can still hear the ratios of volume and such which is why I ask you ignore this, if it’s even present here.

So yeah I’m a noob and this is why I’m asking, I genuinely can’t tell if this is shitty or not. I’ve also been listening to it over and over so that doesn’t help. Did they just not like the genre? Does the melody not fit? Are the drums/bass too loud? I tried quieter but then after listening to other songs felt that it matched professional quality when they were louder? Does it overall just not sound good and not work together or is there a lot of little technical errors? I notice small things here and there like transitions between the voice clips that could be smoother and a snare that seems too loud in one moment for example, but just don’t think that would be enough to make it bad. Thanks if anyone reads this!

(I know I should’ve just asked these people but I didn’t lol)

I have an electric kit and GarageBand but how do I get more sounds?

I’m brand new to playing drums and GarageBand like just opened it two days ago but the sounds on GarageBand are okay but I’m wondering if there’s a way I can install more sounds from another site or something? I’ve seen alot of people using superior drummer 3 and they have great sound packs but can’t seem to find sounds quite as good. I’m sure this gets asked a lot and I’m sorry cause I did search but everything I’ve tried either is only 1 cymbal or tom and not the full kit and so I’m confused on how to get a full kit that just plays the cymbal or tom I hit rather than 1 component at a time

What synth apps do I use to synthesize an electric guitar

so I was watching a few videos about making synths like vital and serum 2 sound like electric guitars, and thought “man, I wonder if I could do that in garage band” I do have a working guitar amplifier AUv3, but none of the synths I got give me any of the results I want, so I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers?

in this moment i am thrilled

just to be clear, i’m not a professional 'song maker'. i’m just a bedroom musician who greatly values his musicianship and thrilling beats over any silly EDM song written by a random hobbyist. this being said, i am open to any and all criticism.

'in this moment, i am thrilled. not because of any phony redditor’s upvote. but because, i am enlightened by my producing skills’.

What happened to this sub?

I come on it and see most posts downvoted, I see little enthusiasm, I see a narrative of propping up more amateur pieces over anything that sounds thrilling. This sub is one of the few where any one of any level can post, yet it seems that lower level EDM and headlines seem to grab attention.

At some point there needs to be a competitive, yet welcoming mindset. You can't just prop up all the extreme bedroom hobbyist posts just because the DAW claims it's for hobbyists.

You create the community you want, and if people mostly prop up extreme amateur pieces to make themselves feel better about their own creations; that is not the actual world of music. That is the world of a hobbyist who is not concerned with the actual outcomes. You might get some upvoted great creations/pieces, but it's not as common as it should be.

There's zero community because of that mindset. And I say this because music creates a "me special" attitude that it's rare to many places where you just see people posting what they made for no other reason than getting a few ears on it.

From GarageBand to iRig — my simple mobile setup

I write music in GarageBand. I think it's an excellent DAW — it's super convenient to be able to compose music on my phone whenever I have it at hand. I also have an iRig, and I record guitar and bass parts live.

Focusrite Scarlett issues with GB

Hello All,

For those who play guitar though a Scarlett interface into GarageBand, can you please advise on my issue?

This morning it was working fine. I came back from lunch and no matter what I do I CANNOT get any signal from my guitar to GarageBand. The ring on the Scarlett lights up when I play - so the guitar/scarlett connection is fine. GarageBand recognises this Scarlett too. But the meter doesn’t move when I play and indeed nothing gets recorded.

I’ve quadruple checked the inputs and outputs. I’ve killed the core audio in the terminal. I’ve rebooted the Mac. I’ve done seemingly everything but no luck in getting it to pick up guitar signal.

Any help appreciated! Thanks
