Driven to Learn But Trapped by War: My Struggle to Return to My Studies and Save My Family in Gaza

Hello everyone,
My name is Moumen Mohamed Abu Nimer. I am 24 years old, from Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip. I am writing to you today not just to share numbers, but to share the reality of my family and a dream of education that I am fighting with all my strength to keep alive.
Before October 7th, I was a young man full of ambition and big dreams. I was studying Computer Systems Engineering at the prestigious Al-Azhar University. I worked tirelessly on myself until I successfully secured a contract as a developer with a company in Saudi Arabia. I felt I was finally on the right path to build my future and support my family as the eldest son.
In an instant, everything disappeared. The war completely destroyed my contract and my job. Today, I still have my laptop—it is the only piece of my dreams left with me—but I stand helpless against a bitter reality: there is no electricity or internet to run it. To study, research, or connect to the world, I have to go to local coffee shops that provide these services, which is incredibly expensive under our current circumstances. Even more difficult is that I want, with all my heart, to return to university and finish my degree, but I need to pay the accumulated tuition fees to make that happen. I want to study, and I want to get back to my education. Life can be so cruel when it deprives you of your most basic rights.
Today, I also find myself unable to provide for my family of six. My mother (52 years old) is a hardworking woman who sacrificed everything to raise engineers, and I am the eldest. Now, she is battling two chronic illnesses—asthma and high blood pressure—and we struggle daily to find her medication. My father (58 years old) is no longer able to work; his health has severely deteriorated after facing constant displacement and fear.
I see the dreams of my younger siblings fading away before my eyes every day:
* My brother Moataz (19 years old): His simple dream was to study nursing so he could help me support our family. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to register for his classes yet because we cannot afford the university tuition fees.
* My sister May (16 years old): The sweetheart of our home. She works hard helping my mother with the exhausting daily chores while trying to study, holding onto her dream of becoming a doctor.
* My youngest brother Mohanad (15 years old): This war has completely drained him. He has lost all passion for life, and we are doing everything we can to provide him with psychological support to help him heal from the trauma.
We are currently living in extremely harsh conditions. Our home was partially destroyed, and we have no stable source of food, clean water, income, or medication. Every day is a battle against hunger, cold, and fear.
I have launched this fundraising campaign as our only lifeline. It is meant to help me pay my university tuition and cover the internet and electricity costs so I can finally return to my studies. It will also secure my mother’s essential medical treatment, provide basic food and shelter for my family, and help repair what we can of our damaged home so we can live with a bare minimum of human dignity.
Any donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference, save our lives, and put me back on my educational path. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing our story—it might just reach someone who can help.
Please, do not leave us alone in this darkness. Your support is the hope we are holding onto.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart 🙏

Support this family.

Hello! I’ve been having a hard time raising funds for Hanan and her family and we are frequently in contact. I don’t have many followers on any of my social media accounts, and when I do post, I’m not allowed to put any links, it gets taken down and it’s suppressed. Ive been donating a lot to this family since 2024, and I think I’m one of the few people they are in contact with. If you would like to donate, it would mean a lot. greatly appreciated!

The vetting link is through tumblr. They are # 152 on this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YGgkXoyam7tnbXb-vqWsHFs3Puyf\_xYeXY2dPrZQY1M/htmlview

Help my family please 🙏

I am a mother from Gaza, 43 years old, carrying a heart full of pain that words can hardly describe. Every single day, I live holding onto a small hope that this suffering will one day end. I have four children. Before the war, we lived a simple but peaceful life filled with warmth, safety, and love. Our home was not luxurious, but it was full of laughter, comfort, and beautiful memories. My children were very ambitious and full of dreams. Each of them had hopes for a bright future, and despite the simplicity of our life, we were happy and grateful because we had peace. Then the war came… and with it came destruction that took everything from us. In one moment, our entire life changed. Our home, the place that carried all our memories and dreams, was destroyed. Schools and universities stopped, education disappeared, and years of hard work and hope were suddenly lost. We were forced to flee again and again from one place to another, carrying our fear, our children, and the little that remained of our broken lives. We experienced hunger in the cruelest way. We learned what it means for children to wait for hours just to get a piece of bread or clean water. We lived through nights of bombing, terror, and sleepless fear, never knowing if we would survive until morning. I saw fear in my children’s eyes every single day, and I tried to appear strong for them while my heart was breaking silently inside. We lost our home, our work, our stability, and the life we once knew. I became unable to provide even the most basic necessities for my children — food, clean water, clothes, and medicine. The most painful feeling for me as a mother is not being able to protect my children or give them the life they deserve. That is why, with deep hesitation and heartbreak, I created a support link asking for help. I never imagined I would one day need to ask others for assistance, but the circumstances forced us into survival mode. Every single dollar donated is withdrawn immediately to provide food, water, and basic needs so my children and I can survive another day. For two long years, I have been asking for help and knocking on every door I can, carrying both shame and desperation in my heart. But I do this only for my children — so they do not sleep hungry, and so they can still hold onto hope that life may become kinder one day. From the bottom of my heart, I am deeply grateful to every person who supported us, whether through a donation, sharing our story, or even a kind word and prayer. You cannot imagine how much your support means to us or how much strength it gives us to keep going despite everything. To everyone reading my story, I ask you kindly not to scroll past our pain. We are not asking for luxury or comfort — we are simply trying to survive, to live with dignity, safety, and peace like every other human being. After God, you are our only hope. 🤍https://gofund.me/5c236f4d

From the Nakba to Gaza 2026: Our Suffering Never Ended

I am Mohammed from Gaza. My grandfather used to tell me the details of the Nakba — the displacement, the killings, the destruction of homes, and the seizure of their land. And now, in 2026, we are witnessing the same brutality, the same cruelty, and the same thirst for killing. We have been suffering from an ongoing genocide since 2023. I lost my home and my family’s home, and many members of my family were killed for no reason other than that they loved their land and remained steadfast on it.

I truly need your support in these circumstances. I have not found anyone to stand by me or support me during this hardship.

Defund Aid to Israel Letter to Members of Congress regarding the Gaza Genocide & West Bank Israeli Expansion, May 15, 2026

Here is my letter I e-mailed to my U.S. congressional reps for my state, the Chairmans of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Senator James Risch) and House Committee on Foreign Affairs (Rep Brian Mast), & the Chair of the Senate State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (Senator Lindsey Graham). Please take as is or make adjustments as you see fit to send to members of Congress.

Contact Us | Congress.gov | Library of Congress

---------------------------------------

On the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, the death toll in the Gaza genocide has surpassed 72,700, with at least 854 Palestinians killed since a US-mediated ceasefire was announced seven months ago. Prime Minister Netanyahu now claims the Israeli military controls 60% of the territory. Because Israel continues to block the entry of excavators and heavy equipment, families are forced to dig through the rubble with their bare hands to retrieve an estimated 8,500 to 10,000 missing bodies. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza persists under a tight Israeli siege that has restricted the entry of agreed-upon aid trucks and essential recovery equipment. (Sources: Drop Site News, Middle East Eye)

The West Bank is currently facing an unprecedented pace of Israeli settlement expansion, highlighted by the secret approval of a record 34 new settlements in late March 2026, which represents a nearly 80% increase in official sites under the current government. This growth is coupled with a dramatic rise in settler violence, including attacks on the Palestinian Christian village of Taybeh and a recent incident where settlers forced a family to exhume their father’s body near Jenin. To facilitate further construction and "destroy the idea of a Palestinian state," authorities have uprooted thousands of Palestinian olive trees and moved to demolish dozens of commercial facilities to secure "territorial continuity" for Israeli outposts. Since October 2023, these escalations have led to the displacement of 40,000 Palestinians and a death toll exceeding 1,000 individuals killed by soldiers and settlers. (Sources: The Tablet International Catholic News, Drop Site News, The New Arab)

In response to the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the Israeli settlement expansion and violence in the West Bank, I urge you to:

·         Support H.R.3565 Block the Bombs Act to provide for a limitation on the transfer of defense articles and defense services to Israel.

·         Support S.3634 AWARE Act to impose sanctions on Israeli officials to discourage the government from obstructing humanitarian assistance

·         Support H.R. 3045 West Bank Violence Prevention Act of 2025

·         Support H.R.7545 Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation

As American support for Israel plummets, it is our moral responsibility to question the continuation of U.S. financial assistance to their government. Israel continues to violate the rights of Palestinians, international law, and U.S. laws. The U.S. Members of Congress must push to end our military support of Israel.

I wake up every day in Northern Gaza, surrounded by ruins and a crushing sense of despair. It feels like my future is slipping away, and I am powerless to stop it. The war took everything, but it couldn't take my dream. I am a Computer Systems Engineering graduate with a chance to pursue my Master’s and rebuild my life. However, I am stuck because of accumulated university fees that I cannot afford to pay.

I just received my first donations, and for the first time in months, I feel a spark of hope. Please, don’t let me be just another story you scroll past. Help me finish my degree and reclaim my future. 🇵🇸🎓

An urgent appeal for help to graduate and begin my master's studies.

My name is Bassam, and I'm a software engineering graduate from northern Gaza. Today, I felt a mix of joy and sadness. I learned that 60 students from my country were able to leave Gaza to pursue their university studies. I was overjoyed for them, but I also felt bitter that I wasn't among them.

I launched my fundraising campaign a month ago, and so far, no one has donated. This makes me feel like I'm facing this challenge alone, and my hope is fading.

Today, I'm appealing to you all to stand with a son of Gaza in his educational journey.

I only need 1,500 Jordanian dinars (approximately $2,115 USD) to get my university degree, which is the first step towards building my future.

I am attaching a certificate from my university that proves the accuracy of my statement.

Believe me, if everyone who sees this post donates just $5, it will help me immensely.

You are my last hope. If you can't support me financially, please at least share my post so my voice reaches those who can help.

Thank you for everything.

School in North Gaza

Meet Andira Ghandi — the educator leading the North Gaza micro-school project.

For more than 30 years, she worked as a school principal and dedicated her life to education and children in her community.

Her original kindergarten and school were destroyed, but she refused to give up on her mission. Today, she is helping rebuild a safe learning space for children in North Gaza — restoring classrooms, repairing old furniture, and creating daily structure for students again.

This project is not led by large institutions.
It is being rebuilt by local people who continue to believe that children deserve education, safety, and hope. 🇵🇸

Step up for Siraj!

I really, really need people to step up. Donations for Siraj, as for almost everyone else, are frustratingly and worryingly slow. Contribute what you can through the QR Code (or the link below), and share this widely, so that as many people as possible see it. Don't let my dear brother down, I beg you.

The current situation in Gaza is defined by a deepening humanitarian catastrophe—characterized by some officials as a “biological apocalypse”—and a fragile, frequently violated ceasefire that has seen continued territorial expansion by the Israeli military. As of May 2026, Israel has expanded its control to nearly 60% of the Gaza Strip, forcing the displaced population into approximately 40% of the enclave.

Updated Death Tolls

The human cost of the conflict continues to rise despite the cessation of full-scale "scorched earth" bombing campaigns:

  • Total Fatalities: Since the start of the conflict on October 7, 2023, the recorded death toll has reached 72,615 Palestinians killed and 172,468 injured. Thousands more remain missing under the rubble.
  • Post-Ceasefire Fatalities: Since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire began in October 2025, Israeli military actions have killed at least 834 Palestinians. Additionally, 768 bodies have been recovered from beneath the rubble during this same period.

The Humanitarian Crisis: "A Biological Apocalypse"

Humanitarian coordinators warn that Gaza is facing a "calculated ecological disaster" due to the total collapse of essential infrastructure.

  • Water and Sanitation: Approximately 97% of groundwater is undrinkable, and daily water access has plummeted to between three and five liters per person—dropping as low as one liter in northern Gaza. All sewage systems are currently offline, resulting in 130,000 cubic meters of untreated waste being discharged into the sea daily.
  • Rodent Infestations: Over 80% of displacement sites are infested with large, aggressive rodents—including the Norway rat—which bite children and the elderly while they sleep, spreading diseases like hantavirus and Leptospirosis.
  • Disease Outbreaks: The unsanitary conditions have fueled nearly half a million cases of acute diarrhea and over 70,000 cases of ectoparasitic infestations (such as scabies and lice) in 2026 alone.

Infrastructure and Aid Restrictions

The crisis is exacerbated by ongoing Israeli restrictions on the entry of critical supplies.

  • Blocked Supplies: Israel has reportedly denied the entry of rodenticides, insecticides, and waste removal equipment, citing security concerns. While Israeli agencies claim to have allowed some pest control materials, local officials state that traps and current poisons are unworkable in the "topography of rubble".
  • Aid Trucks: Although the ceasefire agreement envisaged up to 600 aid trucks per day, the actual average remains just over 200 trucks daily.
  • Widespread Destruction: Approximately 80% of water infrastructure and 71% of desalination plants have been destroyed, leaving families to cook and wash in refuse-contaminated areas.

Military officials have recently indicated that operational plans to resume full-scale war are complete and pending final political approval, further heightening fears for the two million Palestinians who remain displaced within the enclave.

In response to the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, I urge you to:

·         Support H.R.3565 To provide for a limitation on the transfer of defense articles and defense services to Israel.

·         Support S.3634 AWARE Act to impose sanctions on Israeli officials to discourage the government from obstructing humanitarian assistance

A Father From Gaza Living in a Tent — Please Help My Family Survive

Hello everyone,
My name is Mohammed Ali, and I am from Gaza. My family and I lost our home, our work, and everything we had because of the war. Today, we are living in a small tent under extremely difficult conditions.

We struggle every day to find food, clean water, medicine, and even basic light at night. Recently, insects and rats have spread around the camp, and my children are getting sick. I cannot afford proper treatment or healthy food for them.

As a father, it breaks my heart to watch my children suffer while I feel helpless. I am trying my best to keep them safe and alive during these painful times.

I am sharing my story with hope that compassionate people may help us survive. Any support, no matter how small, can truly make a difference for my family.

PayPal: [samraweam0@gmail.com]

Thank you for reading, supporting, or even sharing our story.
Please keep Gaza and my family in your prayers.
