Anyone recently got H-1B → H-4 COS + H-4 EAD (standalone, no Premium Processing)? Timeline?

I’m trying to get a sense of recent timelines for a standalone H-1B → H-4 COS (first time) + H-4 EAD concurrent filing.

I’m not referring to cases where the H-4/H-4 EAD was bundled with the spouse’s H-1B extension or transfer under Premium Processing, which usually have lesser wait time.

My case is:

H-1B → H-4 COS + H-4 EAD filed concurrently
Filed separately (not bundled with my spouse’s H-1B extension/transfer), so Premium Processing wasn’t an option.

Currently about to 4 months since my Receipt Date (RD) and still waiting.

If you’ve gone through a similar standalone H-1B → H-4 COS + H-4 EAD process recently:

  1. How long did it take to receive your H-4 approval and EAD?

  2. Which service center processed your case as per notice of receipt?

  3. What was your filing month and approval timeline?
I am trying to understand what the current wait times look like for similar cases. Thanks!

H1B+H4+H4EAD Extension Bundle

[Still in progress]

H1-B Timeline:
May 28th - Case Received
June 2nd - PP clock started
June 15th - Case approved(Vermont)

H4 & EAD Timeline:
May 28th - Case Received
June 1st - Case transferred
June 16th - I-539 H4 Approved

Asked Emma to email us the digital copy of ASC appointment notice. Emma first told my the case was transferred to Nebraska. Confirmed again on June 18th that it was transferred to Vermont which makes more sense.

Can my spouse attend an H-4 visa interview while my H-1B transfer is still pending (only I-797C receipt available)?

Hi everyone,
I’m in a bit of a unique situation and was wondering if anyone has gone through something similar.
I recently changed employers, and my H-1B transfer is currently pending with USCIS. At the moment, I only have the **I-797C Receipt Notice**—the transfer has not yet been approved, and I don’t expect to receive the approval notice before my spouse’s visa interview.
My wife is currently outside the U.S. and already has an **H-4 visa interview** scheduled. We booked the appointment months ago, paid the MRV fee, and it’s been very difficult to get an available appointment. Rescheduling would likely mean waiting a long time.
Our concern is:

\- Can she still attend the H-4 visa interview with only my H-1B transfer **receipt notice (I-797C)**?
\- Has anyone had an H-4 interview where the principal applicant’s H-1B transfer was still pending?
\- Did the consular officer proceed with the interview and issue the visa later after the H-1B was approved, or did they refuse the application under 221(g) or ask you to come back after approval?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience,
Thanks in advance!

Recent H4 interview experience?

Hi! This will be my first H4 visa interview. If you've had one recently, could you share:

  1. What questions were you asked?
  2. How long did approval/passport return take?
  3. Did you attend the interview alone while your H-1B spouse stayed in the U.S.?

Thank you.

H4 without ead

Is their anyone here who was or is on h4 without an EAD who tried doing job applications to get their own work visa sponsorship instead of waiting for EAD. If yes, how was your experience?

I have my biometrics appointment scheduled for my first-time H-4 EAD (Form I-765) application.
What should I expect during the appointment? My appointment notice doesn’t specify whether it’s for a photo only, fingerprints only, or both.
Could anyone who has gone through this recently share their experience? Thank you so much!

H1 to H4 COS RFE

Hey All, wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or could provide your inputs.

Here is my situation: laid off as an H1B on Jan 7, 2026. Grace period starting next day until Mar 9.

Filed H1 to H4 COS Feb 12.

Secured a job, filed H1B in PP and received first RFE regarding pending H4. Responded and got another RFE on H1 that H4 is now in RFE and they will process it together when H4 RFE is responded ( and H1 RFE response will trigger that ).

Problem is H4 RFE says, my previous employer withdrew H1 ( required after layoffs ) on Jan 12 and was processed on Jan 21. They are asking for evidence that I maintained status.

I have a valid i94 until Oct, 2027 and i140 approved. Is the RFE concerning? The documents they are asking is paystubs, employment verification letter, i94. I know the grace period can be discretionary, but are they just trying to confirm the employment period?

Any help or suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

H4 extension + EAD renewal + PP

Hi All,

Just want to post this here to show that there is hope sometimes.

Bundled with H1 extension, entire process took a month to get EAD in hand.

Service Center was Texas.

I did not have to email the service center to follow up. I am not an expert on this process or don't have any finer details that I can share to help your case but just want to share my timeline here so others can breathe easy.

The posts had me quite anxious but things progressed per plan.

Hang in there!

Looking for updates for H4 EAD Standalone cases - LIN Series (June/July/August)

Hey everyone, I’ve noticed a few people with June and July cases getting approved lately. Is anyone with a late July or August case getting updates?

My receipt date is August 15, and my status is still stuck on "Case Received." The waiting game is getting so frustrating. I actually have three job offers lined up right now, but I'm stressed about whether I need to turn them all down since the official processing time just jumped to 15.5 months. Everything is up in the air right now.

Would love to hear where everyone else from August is at!

Complex H1B/H4 EAD Timeline: Need advice on maintaining employment (PERM pending, Max-out approaching, LOA, & WOM)

Hi everyone, I am in a very unique and time-sensitive situation regarding my H1B max-out, a pending H4+EAD, and an upcoming H1B extension based on a pending PERM. I want to keep my stable job and avoid any gap in employment. I would love your insights on my best options.
My Current Status & Timeline:
H1B Max-Out: I have used up almost all of my 6 years on H1B. I only have 22 days remaining (plus about 26 days of vacation/recapture time that I can claim).
PERM Status: My PERM was filed in September 2025 and is currently in progress. By September 2026, it will hit the 365-day mark, making me eligible for a 1-year H1B extension.
Current Employment: I am currently on an approved Leave of Absence (LOA) with my company until September 2026.
Pending H4 / EAD (Standalone): I filed a standalone H4 change of status and EAD application back in January 2026. Both are still stuck in "Case Received" status.
Spouse’s Extension (Concurrent Filing): My spouse’s H1B extension was just filed via Premium Processing on June 30, 2026, along with my H4 and EAD extensions. We are currently waiting for the receipt notices.
My Goals & Questions for the Group:

  1. Claiming Recapture Time & the 1-Year Extension: What is the best strategy/timing to file an H1B extension to claim my remaining 22 days + 26 days of recapture time to keep me in employment status until my PERM hits the 365-day mark in September? Can my employer file this now?
  2. Writ of Mandamus (WOM): I am strongly considering filing a Writ of Mandamus this month (July) to push a decision on my January H4/EAD applications. If my employer also files an H1B extension for me in August, will the pending WOM or a potential H4 approval negatively impact or conflict with that H1B filing?
  3. H4 EAD vs. H1B Path: Given that my spouse's extension was filed in Premium Processing on June 30, is it safer to just wait for that H4/EAD approval, or should I actively pursue the H1B recapture/PERM extension path with my employer?
Any advice on the safest sequence of steps to avoid termination or a gap in work authorization would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

H-1B + H4 + H4 EAD Timelines

Sharing the H-1B (Premium) + H4 + H4 EAD Timelines

04/16/2026 - H-1B, H4 Case Received
04/28/2026 - H-1B, H4 Approved

H4 - EAD Timelines

04/16/2026 - Case Received
04/21/2026 - Case Transferred
06/01/2026 - Biometric Letter Received
06/16/2026 - Biometric Appointment
06/20/2026 - New Card is Being Produced
06/22/2026 - Case Approved
06/26/2026 - Card Mailed
07/01/2026 - Card Delivered

We contacted USCIS Emma live agent few times in May to enquire about the H4-EAD case. Most of the times - we received the response that the case is in Biometrics queue but no appointment has been assigned yet. On May 25th, we received a response that the Biometrics has been scheduled for 06/16. We didn't contact USCIS after the biometrics appointment. Based on experiences of others, it looks like the process is kind of random post biometrics and is very much luck dependent on how soon it is picked up by USCIS.

H4 + H4 EAD (Combined Filing) - WAC (California Service Center) - APPROVED after 8+ months

Sharing my uncommon experience with H4 and EAD filing. I filed after my job layoff on H-1B in Oct 2025. I was actively interviewing and lawyers said I cannot start working until H4 is approved as well after EAD card came. Apart from the below inquiries, I chatted with agents every week to get some update after EAD approval.

Hopefully, no one else has to go through this!

• Oct 15, 2025 - H4 (I-539) + H4 EAD (I-765) filed together

• Apr 9, 2026 - H4 EAD approved, physical card received, H4 still pending as Case Received

• Apr 12, 2026 - Congressional inquiry filed through Congressman's office

• May 12, 2026 - Expedite request filed citing clear USCIS error (combined case tracked under standalone processing times). Agent mentioned H4 was being processed as standalone

• May 12, 2026 - Expedite forwarded to California Service Center (referral ID received)

• Jun 5, 2026 - Regular case inquiry (e-request) submitted

• Jun 12, 2026 - USCIS Ombudsman request filed

• Jun 19, 2026 - Second congressional inquiry filed through Senator's office

• Jun 24, 2026 - Received job offer, sent offer letter to both congressional offices citing severe financial loss

• Jun 24, 2026 - Called USCIS, re-escalated expedite to Tier 2 with new service request

• Jun 30, 2026 - H4 APPROVED finally!!!

Key takeaways:

- H4 EAD was approved ~3 months before H4 even though filed as combined application

- USCIS was tracking my combined filing under standalone H4 processing times (7.5 months instead of 6 months) as per agent - this was the basis for my USCIS error expedite argument

- Applicants who filed after me (Nov/Dec 2025) received approvals before mine

- Filed 6 total inquiries across congressional offices, expedite, e-request, and Ombudsman

- Approval came the same day I followed up with both congressional offices with job offer proof

- Don't give up - keep pressure from multiple directions

Timeline Validation - H1B + H4 + H4 EAD Premium processing

So we filed my H1B extension and combined my wife's H4 and H4 EAD extension as well on May 12th 2026.

May 12th 2026 - Receipt of H1B, H4, H4 EAD extensions

May 21st - H1B approved

June 12th - H4 EAD Biometric appointment (Completed)

Since then, no updates on H4 and H4 EAD.

Anyone in same boat? Do they ask for EAD Biometric before H4 approval?

H-4 EAD — File I-765 standalone now(July) OR bundle with H-1B extension in October? I-140 just approved

My situation:

  • Currently on H-4 status
  • Husband on H-1B
  • His H-1B extension will be filed mid/end of October 2026 with Premium Processing
  • His I-140 was just approved — I am now immediately eligible to file H-4 EAD (I-765) standalone

My question — which is faster and safer?

  • Option 1: File I-765 standalone now in July 2026
  • Option 2: Wait and bundle I-539 + I-765 with husband's H-1B extension in October 2026

Main concerns:

  • Avoiding gaps in work authorization
  • Whether a pending EAD could delay my H-4 extension if not approved by October

Recent data points and personal experiences welcome — thank you! 🙏

H4 and H4 ead ( bundle premium processing )

My H1, H4 and H4 ead application were received on June 2, 2026. Texas service centre. It does not data anywhere in the case tracker that my case has been transferred. The status on USCIS portal says “case was received and receipt was sent” since then.
Recently I received biometrics notice for appointment on June 22. But nothing has been updated on the case tracker. What would be the timeline my h4 and h4 ead would be approved ?

H1b was approved on June 23 and receipt was sent on June 30. But no update on h4 and h4 ead. Is there any other website people are tracking their case status . And would I receive any notice saying biometrics was received or anything ?
