Collection

Have I ever showed off my collection here?

I'm pretty proud of it, (I also have the Dutch translation of book one but it's at my aunts at the moment), and a picture of my ford cosplay. I got into it last november and I've been obsessed ever since.

(I know the candle is cringe. It was a gag gift from a friend.)

And if my post doesn't seem to have images. It's probably because reddit hates me and likes to not include the pictures I've included.

Disaster Area Tour Shirt

I just found this on an old external drive. I wanted to turn this into a fake tour merchandise shirt but never got round to do it.

Now, I'm not really sure if I looked up all the planets in the books or just invented some.

So, do you have suggestions? Ideas, which places to add? Which to delete? Bury the whole file in soft peat for three months and recycle it as a firelighter? (I would have to print it first...)

Curious about his daily life & routines

I’ve read I’m Your Man by Sylvie Simmons but I still wish I knew more about the mundane details of Leonard’s life: what he ate for breakfast, whether he wrote at home or in cafes, how he decorated his house.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

My friend and I watched a British FILM version of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy when we were young kids, it was a VHS she had at her house. Then, in 2005 when the ‘american’ version came out, we saw it together in the theater and determined that we liked the ‘original’ movie more. Now as an adult I’m trying to find it, and I cannot. I can’t find any evidence of a hitchhiker’s guide movie before the 2005 movie. I really don’t feel it was the miniseries. Although it could be. Does anyone know of a lesser known version it may have been?

Starship Titanic

Based on the game that is based on a short vignette in the HHGG books that was based on the radio series of the same name that was based on a drunken idea by Douglas Adams. You haven't seen a spin-off chain this long since Happy Days spat out Mork and Mindy.

It was written by Terry Jones (yes, *that* Terry Jones). It is basically a novelized walkthrough of the CD ROM game of the same name. If the premise sounds a little shaky, it is. Fortunately, TJ stuck to the source material very closely, peppering in a few MP style jokes along the way. Without TJ and DNA as the source material, this book would have been a disaster. As is, the book is a solid B.

The Krewe of Arthur Dent is officially blasting off for Mardi Gras 2027

Hey everyone! I'm incredibly excited to announce that we just pushed the button and took our new site live: kreweofarthurdent.com.

For those who might not be from New Orleans or haven't experienced the absolute wonderful madness yet, we are building this as a subkrewe for the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus.

Chewbacchus is a massive, DIY, sci-fi/fantasy, nerd-core Mardi Gras parade. It’s a completely satirical, green parade fueled by creativity, pop culture, and a whole lot of cardboard and LEDs.

We decided the streets of New Orleans needed a proper tribute to the Guide. We are officially gearing up to roll in the 2027 parade, and our plans are already getting wonderfully out of hand. We're currently scheming up some properly themed parade contraptions, towel throws and preparing to drop as many riffs on the number 42 as humanly possible.

If you're a hoopy frood who always knows where their towel is, anybody is welcome to stick a thumb out and roll with us. But honestly, regardless of whether you join our specific flavor of madness, the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus is something truly special. It is absolutely worth experiencing, whether you decide to build a contraption or amazing costume and join a subkrewe yourself or just grab a spot on the route to watch the beautiful chaos roll by.

TIL Dionysius I, ruler of Syracuse, wrote poetry which wasn't always well received. After Philoxenus, another poet, criticised his work, Dionysius imprisoned him for a day. He then released him, read him another poem and asked for his opinion. Philoxenus replied "take me back to the quarries"

Looking up into the night sky is looking into infinity...

"Looking up into the night sky is looking into infinity—distance is incomprehensible and therefore meaningless."

I've always loved this quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Yet it took me countless readings of the books and listens to the radio series before I connected it to one of my favourite characters of all time: Ford Prefect, absent-mindedly staring up at the night sky.

From Earth, he can see Betelgeuse, his home system.
He knows exactly how far away it is: Six million light-years.

But the number doesn't help. It's still so zarking far away. It could be a thousand miles and yet it would still be out of reach.

Fan made HHGTTG

I made a HHGTTG for fun. Uses an LLM to answer your questions in almost, but not quite, entirely unlike
the guides voice. I put in some Easter eggs from the books. Thought people would enjoy talking to the guide.
