Is a company-operated franchise model the future for busy professionals?

I'm one of the founders of a salon chain that's expanding across India, and we've been debating something internally.

A lot of professionals want to own a business, but very few have the time to actually run one. Between hiring staff, handling operations, marketing, vendor management, and customer issues, it quickly becomes a second full-time job.

So we're experimenting with a different approach.

The idea is that the franchise owner provides the capital and owns the outlet, while the company manages the day to day operations through a centralized team. The owner gets regular reports, visibility into performance, and remains the business owner without having to be physically present every day.

I'm not saying this model is perfect. It still has challenges around incentives, transparency, and execution.

I'm genuinely curious:

* Would you consider investing in a franchise if the company handled operations?

* What would make you trust or distrust such a model?

* If you've invested in a franchise before, what was your biggest pain point?

I'm looking for honest feedback from people who have either owned a franchise or seriously considered buying one. The goal is to build a better model, not just sell more franchises.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Need Business Ideas (₹30L Budget) – Career Break Due to Special Needs Child

39F from Chennai. I'm a former Senior Product Manager and mom to a 9-year-old autistic child. I had to take multiple career breaks to care for my son. He's now in school but still needs my support, so returning to a full-time corporate job isn't easy.

I'm looking for business or franchise ideas with an investment of around ₹30 lakhs that can generate steady income. I'm currently considering an EV charging station but would love other suggestions.

Has anyone started a business in this budget? What would you recommend?

Established Cloud Kitchen for Sale – Whitefield, Bengaluru | Asking Price: ₹9,00,000 (Negotiable)

Established Cloud Kitchen for Sale – Whitefield, Bengaluru | Price: ₹9,00,000 (Negotiable)

Fully operational cloud kitchen in a dense Whitefield location with an established customer base and online presence. Ground-floor premises and long-standing vendor relationships make operations smooth and cost-effective.

- Avg. monthly gross sales: \~₹5,00,000 (Swiggy + Zomato)

- Profitable running business (NP-12-15 percent)

- Complete setup included: kitchen equipment, CCTV, Inverter, Chimney, 5 LPG cylinder gas bank, furniture, and assets including Brand ID's on Swiggy and Zomato.

- Low rent: ₹15,000 and 90000 deposit

- Ready for immediate takeover

Why buy an established brand?

Starting from scratch takes months of marketing and order building. This business lets you begin with an existing customer base, online presence, and proven sales.

Established brands also benefit from better commercial terms than new restaurants entering today’s market.Comission,Ad costs etc are much higher for newer brands.

Asking Price: ₹9,00,000 negotiable to an extent.

Financials and further details will be shared with genuine buyers only. Great opportunity for people who were on the sidelines looking for a low risk entry. Also much much better business than taking an unproven franchise with no guarantee of sales on excel sheet numbers.

WARNING: Kiaasa Franchise FOCO Model is a FRAUD – Don’t waste your investment!

Posting this to warn anyone thinking about investing in a Kiaasa franchise. They are running a massive scam with their FOCO model. It sounds "too good to be true" because it completely is.
Here is what they are doing:
**No Sales & Fake Numbers:** The stores make zero sales. To trap new investors, they show completely fake sales figures.
**Fake Verification:** When you try to verify and ask for existing store owners' contacts, they don't give you the actual owner's number. In my case, they didn't give my number—they gave the number of some fake dummy person who lies and pretends it’s his store, making a fool out of potential investors.
**No MG Payments:** They promise a Minimum Guarantee (MG), but they never pay it on time. You have to constantly beg and fight for your own money, and they completely stop picking up your phone calls once they have your cash.
They have already taken a 40 Lakh investment and are just looting people by opening stores that don't perform. If you are planning to take their franchise, **STAY AWAY**. They are just making a fool out of investors.

Amritaya Clinic, Delhi NCR

Just wanted to share the reality of Amritpal Singh, CEO of Amritaya Skin Clinics in Delhi NCR. He is bank loan defaulter, and owes 28.3 crores to Bank of Baroda. The matter is still ongoing since 2018 in Debt Recovery Tribunal, Dehradun. He moved from Rudrapur, Uttrakhand to Noida and changed phone numbers, but the bank is still tracking and matter is ongoing. Beware of putting your hard earned money in buying franchisee from him.

Have a look at the judgement- he was involved in his family business of SAM CABLES PVT LTD which defaulted 28.3 crores and bank has still mot recovered. Check the link for Amritpal’s bank case. The matter is ongoing in Debt Recovery Tribunal, Dehradun. He is on a run.

Mindspace leasing managers say they only want "brands"—how did local outlets get in?

Hey everyone,I am planning to open an QSR/restaurant concept and am looking at commercial spaces inside Mindspace tech park. When I approached the leasing management team, they told me they only accept "established brands" and won't lease to new or unproven concepts. However, looking around the food court, I see outlets like Dum Zayka and Wok Clubs. While they are great, they aren't massive global chains like McD or Subway.

For anyone who has retail experience here or knows how K Raheja Corp operates:How do these regional/smaller brands manage to crack the leasing process? Is there a specific corporate loop, parent company connection, or revenue-sharing model they look for?

If I have a solid business plan, financial backing, and a highly optimized menu (fast tech-park crowd appeal), how can I get the leasing team to take a new brand seriously?Would appreciate any insights, contacts, or advice from anyone who has dealt with tech park commercial leasing! Thanks.

First-Time Franchise Investor Looking for Honest Advice

Hi everyone,

I've been looking at a few franchise opportunities recently and, honestly, I'm feeling both interested and nervous.

I have the money to invest, but I've never owned a business before, let alone a franchise. Every franchise company seems to promise good returns, strong support and a proven business model, but when it's your own savings on the line, it's hard to know what's real and what's just marketing.

For those who have actually bought a franchise, was it worth it?

What are the things you wish you had checked before investing? Were there any surprises after opening? Did the franchisor provide the support they promised? How long did it take before you felt confident that the business would work?

I also keep wondering whether franchises are genuinely profitable for most owners or whether only a small percentage do well while the rest struggle quietly.

If you were in my position today, looking at franchise opportunities for the first time, what would you pay the most attention to? And what would be the biggest red flags that would make you walk away?

I'd really appreciate hearing both success stories and bad experiences. I'm trying to learn as much as possible before making a decision that involves a significant investment.

Thanks in advance.

Business idea on nh44

I have 30,000 Sq.ft in madurai outskirts, tamilnadu. Also a new ORR has opened up on the same stretch. Looking at what to develop... Need to fill the land like 5-6 feet minimum to get it above road level for visibility.

McD says there is no one around much except 2 restaurants and hence i only need to put in all the investment and get rev. Share. For mcDonands the investment they say in minimim i need to put in 1.5-2cr for interiors and again have to develop the bare shell and the exterior. Which can be pretty expensive for 10-15k sq ft with drivethru

Jawed Habib Hair and Beauty company cheating story in the name of franchise

I took Jawed Habib franchise in which I have invested 50 lakhs. The location was finalized by jawed Habib company itself.Within few months company's employee opened another franchise unofficially. When I objected they said it's not in their hand because another franchise master is involved. They have violated their own contract of 2km of exclusivity.Later few of their employees said it's illegal and they will get it closed, but 6 months past and did nothing. My store is losing money and soon I am filling criminal and civil case for my money recovery.Never trust this franchise and the company. It's a scam.

The Franchise owner is asking us not to register on Zomato and Swiggy as it is not profitable.

Background- Franchise owner(Aman) is my 2nd eldest brother's (Arsh)bestest friend, they have been together for longer than I am alive (I am 21). Arsh now lives abroad, and Aman didn't wanted that and asked him to open a franchise with him, but he wanted to study more. My eldest brother(Parm) was fead from his banking job, been in that sector for 15+ years. Recently, Aman got married and we went there and Aman pitched idea for opening a franchise in another city around 50kms away as there are already three branches in our city. Parm liked it, and did all things and now we opening a restaurant 11 days ago.

This all was to tell that Aman wants the best for us, he is like family.

Our first and second weekend and they weekdays between these went amazing, \~15k sales on weekdays and \~25k on all weekends. But now the sales are a bit down, to 10-12k these three weekdays (Monday through Wednesday) which is to be expected, people have tried a new thing in their town, which is only present in 6-6 other places in the state.

So me and Parm wanted to get on Zomato and Swiggy, to nudge the sales our desired 15k per day mark. Aman says it's not profitable, they put heavy discounts for customer and sometimes he is barely able to make profit from those sales. I worked at Aman's shop too, and once saw bill of ₹70 for ₹169 pasta. So it's kinda understandable.

The restaurant mainly services ice creams and products made from it (live ice cream rolls, live gravity sundae, waffles, etc), along with pasta, sandwiches, wraps and fries for snacks, and we most of our sale is during 9-11pm, around 70-80% of it. Most people don't want to come out in scorching heat, so we think Zomato and Swiggy could be profitable. We could always charge 5-10% more on them.

He has experience of running two branches for around 8 years, so he knows much more than us. Parm has been in banking sector his whole life and I am 2nd year of college.

What do you think, hop on or not?

Laundry Franchise

Hi guys. I have been introduced to the concept of opening a laundry franchise branch. I have spoken to three different companies in the past one week - Washmart, Wash Kiya? and Laundry Legend. They have approx investment amount of 18.5 L, 12.5 L and 21 L respectively.

Each of them are offering similar franchise options based on FOCO model. The offers look very lucrative and I feel like starting soon in Vadodara, Gujarat. However, in my experience too, when something sounds too good to be true, it is.

Please help me out. Please offer any inputs or advices that you guys might have. What are some things that I should be wary of?
