Finally found my dream Mathmos! (Sabine Marcellis)

Had been looking for a long time, and even posted an ISO here. Someone on Dutch marketplace replied to my ISO, and here we are. This lamp is an absolute dream. After running the yellow matt glass bottle once I immediately swapped it out for a bottle where I can actually see the lava, and I’m obsessed. Next to it, my gold Mathmos, with clear/pink fluid. I think that one has faded a bit. But I absolutely love the contrast between the white and the colored fluid ❤️

First vintage find!

Purchased this 1960/70 squiggle(?) at a vintage shop today for $65! At least that's what I believe it is after research, not sure what the tag is implying it is. Small damage at the bottom of the base but nothing major. I'll update when I get it running, it has a bulb but after reading the lava library I think I'll need a different one.

A little gizmo I found at a thrift store

sharing my first lamp joy!!!

i have literally ALWAYS wanted a lava lamp. always. i don’t know why i never bought one for myself, maybe it seemed too frivolous. AND ON MY WALK THE OTHER DAY!!! I FOUND A LAMP IN LIKE?? PERFECT CONDITION!!!!!!

i made sure it wasn’t wet or sticky or leaking at all, took it home, and I GOT SO LUCKY WITH THE COLORS!! IT’S PINK AND ORANGE AND YELLOW!!!!!!

i love turning on my lamp so i can watch the bubbles dancing before i go to sleep at night 🥹 (yes i turn it off before sleeping don’t worry!)

i have quite literally been filled with joy for the last little while just because of this lamp. i did some research on how they work, when they were invented, LavaRand, Mathmos, just clicking around wikipedia cause i was so excited. the cap says it is a Lava Lite 😁 and then i also joined this sub for even more lava lamp joy!!! yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: omg thank you for all the love folks 🥹 thanks for giving me your tips, your warnings, and your secrets about lava lamps!!!! i’m so glad you’re all as excited about my lamp as i am!!!!

Fair price?

I am picking this up today and I was curious to see what the community's thoughts were. What do you all think is a fair price for this yellow beaut. I couldn't find the color/base combo on the interwebs, but tbh I didn't look that hard. Thanks, peace.

First vintage lava lamp (1978 Century) wax is shooting up and breaking into little balls instead of flowing. Can she be saved?

Hi all! I recently got my first vintage lava lamp, a beautiful 1978 century lamp. I got it secondhand off Facebook Marketplace. I've had her running for about 5 hours now, and she's sitting at 110°F, but instead of flowing normally, the wax is shooting up and breaking apart, and it's not rejoining at the bottom. Now I've got a growing pile of small wax balls instead of one cohesive blob. Is the wax toast at this point?

Is there any way to save it, like heating the wax separately to get it to rejoin? Does old wax need a "refresher" of surfactant to behave properly again? Is this a common issue with vintage wax, or does it sound like something else is going on (temperature, bulb wattage, etc.)?

I've never worked with vintage lamp wax before and would really love to restore her properly rather than replace the wax if at all possible. Any advice from people who've dealt with this is hugely appreciated!

Favorite lamp size/shape?

Personally, I think the classic lava lamp shape in 16.3 and 27 are the best. 16.3 is my favorite of the 2 tho

i found this at an antique mall today!

unfortunately i did not have $300 to bring this gorgeous thing home, it had to have been at least 3ish feet tall and flowed so well. im not sure who made it or how to get one so big so if anyone has knowledge on it please enlighten me :)

Finally tried the other bottles of my Telstar and Astro!

Also, does anyone know how to remove the lighter streaks on the glass of the plum bottle?

Lamp appears clear when off but becomes cloudy when turned on

I bought and subsequently filtered a Schylling lava lamp just a few days ago, and i'm wondering if it's just me or if my lamp os having a weird issue where it appears clear when it's lamp is off but contracts a slight haze when turned on. Is my lamp becoming cloudy again or is this a normal effect caused by the light or some distortion caused by the globe?

Dimmmers all sorted out

I got my dimmer situation all situated. I use the ChamSys virtual lighting controller on my laptop and connect it to the old Dove systems dimmers via a USB to DMX dongle. The two dimmer packs are 4 channels each for a total of 8 lamps. That makes it so I can control the voltage to each lamp individually. I am working out the levels at which each lamp operates at it's best. This is what happens when you say dimmer to an old lighting guy. Hit me up with questions I love to talk about it. Just ask my wife. 😃
