Do I need to empty this out for surfactant?
Really want more flow but don’t want to ruin anything
First time running for several of these!
And yes I know I need some serious cable management, but that's for another day.
Sweet pins at Five Below!
Apologies if I'm not allowed to post these, but I was at my local Five Below looking for little things for my nephews and came across these! They're only about an 1" tall but they're so cool. I think they were $4 or $5!
I'm selfish and got 2 of them. Haha!
Total success
Hey guys! A while back I made my own master fluid for an old lamp. It was a lot of work to get the proportions right and after a few weeks the water started to get cloudy. I suspect it happened due to the generic dish soap I used instead of a more "pure" surfectant.
This second time I bought a bunch of equipment to make sure I got all the measurements right as well as high quality ingredients. I followed on that legendary post with a step by step guide on how to build a lamp from scratch and it turned out PERFECT. No need to fine tune the proportions.
The total liquid volume I added to my lamp is 740ml. It is made out of 518ml of distilled water, 222ml of glycol and 6,5ml of SLS.
On future projects I intend on lowering the amount of surfactant to around 4,5ml to 5ml because the lava might be a bit too flowy for me and there are too many individual blobs.
Accidentally spilled a quarter of my lamps liquid while filtering it
Can I add distilled water to it? I don’t have the money right now to buy the chemicals from ozone and llc
Edit: it’s a brand new lamp, it was actually manufactured this month lol
Ozone gifts / lava lab creations in Europe
A question for my fellow European lavalamp enthousiasts!
Does anyone know if there is a brand that sells a tinker kit like ozone gifts or lava lab creations in Europe?
I could get it from them but the delivery costs are almost the same or more than the product.
I have looked everywhere but have not yet found anything!
Wax not flowing
Was given this lava lamp (brand new from Amazon) about two months ago. Runs about 8hr/day 4x/week on my office desk. Flowed fine overall, albeit slightly hot (was getting bubbles) so I got a dimmer switch which worked great to adjust it. It’s in a room approx 74°F, not near vents or windows.
Suddenly a few days ago, half the wax remains at the top, and the other half at the bottom. It hardens like this, doesn’t sink. If I jiggle it, it will sink, remelt, and reform exactly like this, regardless of being at full temp or dimmed temp. When hot, both masses are liquified - you can see it “wave” around when the bottle moves.
This seems to go against most of the troubleshooting advice and I’ve tried cooling it, letting it run more than 24hr, and dimming the temp differently. What else can I do?
Leaning Tower of Lava
Ordered the 47in Kyzfy off of Amazon. Got it all put together, ran for several hours and realized it’s rather slanted. I can’t unsee the lean now, even busted out my level. It was my birthday present to myself so definitely bummed that it has a defect. Made some cool looking grapes though when it was warming up. Fingers crossed the replacement fairs better.
Update: Lava Is Flowing!!!!

So I never got a response from the request for assistance from the manufacturer so my daughter kept cycling it while knowing it probably wouldn't lead to anything and slowly it started flowing a little better each day until all the side wax detached and it incrementally improved a little at a time until now it's flowing amazingly.
We played with different dimmer percentages ranging from 100% down to 65%. In the video it's at around 90%.
Thanks to everyone here for everything, I have a very happy daughter with a very beautiful Grande.
Fluid filter
Just got another lamp delivered with super foggy liquid.
Ran it through a filter once and got a great result again!
Blues and greens
Ignore that other random stuff on the table. 🧐
Any guesses of what size this could be? I feel like the angle is tricking me. Guy says he doesn’t know. Halp!
They’re here!!!
These are amazing. I could stare at them for hours. Shout out to my guy /u/weird_athlete_3535 for shipping them across the pond.
Also - if you have Mathmos lava lamps and want to use them in the US here is what you need.
