Overflow is such a masterfully made song

I just can’t place my finger on it but something about this song just tickles the exactly right song in my brain.

It just captures frustration and resentment and the feeling of being stuck so well. The best comparison I can make of this song is with Tate McRae’s Revolving Door, which is my favourite song from her.

The repetition, the way he sounds exhausted, singing low and quiet. There is so much emotion in his voice. It’s the end, it’s the end now - I can feel that resignation in my bones.

The push and pull between wanting to let go but also wanting to hold on so desperately. I need him to sit down and explain every single word and every single note in this song.

I love the contrast between the lyrics of the first and the second verse. In the first line he’s convinced that it’s all over (and he sounds defeated too), while the second verse is him repeating that he won’t ever let go (and he sounds brighter too)

It’s such a cinematic song I love it so much.

I love Overflow if y'all didn’t know.

Idgaf about anything people are saying online this man is going to have a veryyyy successful career.

Overflow in a bus with rain pouring from the night sky is literally a religious experience. Haters y'all are missing out I swear.

Belift releasing a vid of all members including Evan on weverse membership platform?

Belift has seemed to have uploaded a video of all enhypen members featuring Evan (although it seems that they shot this before his departure) on the weverse platform for the membership fans.

It seems like an ad.

Any thoughts?

the discourse around evan is truly sad

there has been a lot of posts lately on evan, and instead of feedback on his songs and abilities, i can see that it is hidden as hate.

there are good constructive criticism, but it is heartbreaking that people are exceptionally harsh on him, especially when it doesn’t meet their expectations (it is very high to begin with, which honestly isn’t fair to him).

i hope he finds comfort in his fans, and that he continues to grow as a solo artist 🥹🥹

The best 2 seconds of Evan.

So this man was wildin on his mini fanmeet. And if you have two seconds of your time to spare... Give it to this Evan. The shocked look after the screams? Please. He knew what he did. 🤭🫠🫠

Heeseung is stunning!

Have a look at these set of photos from his Musicbank departure. I had to scrape my jaw off the floor because the man is STUNNING! So devastatingly beautiful.

Heeseung is NOT a bad dancer

I truly don’t know where this comes from.

I think what happens to him is something similar to what happens to Jungwon. Wonnie is an incredible singer with a beautiful voice and I get literal chills hearing him sing. But because he is inhumanly good at dancing it overshadows everything else and his vocals get paid dust.

It’s the opposite with Hee. He’s so good at singing that people ignore how good of a dancer he is.

I mean the Ride or Die choreo is so satisfying to watch, especially the little steering wheel in the chorus 😭

Where is this coming from I’m so lost. I haven’t re-downloaded twitter because I’m sure it’s a bloodbath over there and I have no interest in that, but how am I getting YouTube posts and threads making fun of him?

Yes that one video of him in skinny jeans and elf shoes is really funny and HeeSiwa is a funny meme but so long as it’s being used in good faith.

He’s such a good dancer have we as a fandom collectively forgotten Teeth and Fatal Trouble?

I’m going to punch someone

I commented under someone appreciating the vocals of Overflow on Instagram, saying that I had it on repeat.

Noticed a comment about someone saying they had it on repeat with 17 replies underneath.

Turns out the person has downloaded the song as an audio file. Several people were asking her for the link because they didn’t want to stream the songs.

They are boycotting both Enhypen and Heeseung.

Now for Enha, the boycott is pretty much all for show. If anything their songs have started hitting streaming milestones faster cause boycotters pissed people off and lead to even more streaming.

But Evan doesn’t have the advantage of a huge discography or as large of a fan base presently. He is LITERALLY DEBUTING.

I don’t know who the actual fuck came up with the extremely bright idea to boycott a solo artist’s first ever release but whoever it is please, PLEASE contact me I beg you.

I’m sick and tired of this shit. Who do these people think they are, pretending to care about him and then calling him every vile thing under the sun?

In 15 days I’d truly forgotten how much of a fucking headache this fandom gives me. I was so excited to come back only to be met with this.

We need to do something about this but I don’t know what 😭 For Enha there were proper guides published by fanbases to report Google Drives to BE:LIFT, do we have anything like that for Hee?

i feel like this is heeseung's way of showing his love for music

on Jo Hyunah Ordinary Thursday | 260702

heeseung said that he's gonna stop making music when people listen to his music and find healing

this is actually my first time seeing a kpop artist with such a clear goal in his mind, he never hesitated when making decision around his music career

It's his selfless way of saying that he'll stop when it's time to stop and can reach out to his right audience.

He wrote Overflow for me

Y'all DON’T GET IT he made that song FOR ME like he actually went through my brain and figured out exactly the type of music I love the most and put everything that was exactly perfect for me in one song he made it with specifically me in mind NOBODY GETS IT AHHHHHHH

Okay, now that the crashout is over.

I don’t know what I was expecting from his debut but I definitely wasn’t expecting to find a new addition to my ‘songs that changed the course of my life’ playlist. I felt so relieved when I heard Ride or Die because I was terrified that I wouldn’t like the two songs and then everything everyone’s been saying online will come true. I liked Ride or Die, I really did. And I let out my sigh of relief and let Overflow come on.

And then I was smacked in the face with how utterly, absolutely perfect this song is. Here I was scared I wouldn’t like the songs only to end up obsessed with one of them 😭

The lyrics are gorgeous. My favourite is ‘writing this letter I can never send to you’. It’s sung in Korean and it’s so beautiful. I love the echo effect at the end of the line too (he’s soooo good at echo effects?).

The melody is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. I LOVE the guitar throughout.

I love the little adlibs of (over) and (better) too.

I want a dress that looks like how this song sounds does that make any sense 😭 I have a whole music video in my head for it now. BE:LIFT. Listen to me. Please listen to me.

I honestly think Overflow should’ve been the lead single, as much as I also adore Ride or Die, Overflow is simply one of the most perfect songs I’ve ever heard.

I think I nearly cried watching the lyric video. The first thought I had when I heard the song for the first time was ‘oh so he DID have a girlfriend hee hee ha ha lesgooooo mah boy’. He later ended up clarifying that it was written when he felt hopeless post March 10th but anyways 😭 I know my boy got game even if we never get proof of it.

The second interpretation I had was that it’s about how hard it was for him to leave, and it only makes me even prouder that he managed to make it out in the end. Oh Hee they could never make me hate you.

Bangers we were promised and bangers we got 😌

Evan is back on Leemujin service!!

If you haven't watched Evan’s episode on Lee Mujin Service yet, I highly recommend checking it out on YouTube. It provides a great look into his mindset since his solo debut.

I like the format and the type of questions Lee Mujin asks his guests, allowing them to dive deeper into their craft, discuss what influenced their view on music and the styles they draw inspiration from, as well as their creative process and future ambitions.

Throughout the episode, I found Evan's responses to be really mature and grounded, making it clear just how much thought and care he puts into his musical direction.

Even though the show was pre-recorded, he ended up indirectly addressing a lot of the criticism he's been receiving lately. He reaffirmed his interest in R&B (the sound many argue suits him best) while openly stating his desire to experiment with different genres and pursue an alternative route. He was also very transparent about the fact that he wasn't that familiar with rock music initially, noting that he simply liked the sound, felt it was right, and wanted to try it out in Ride or Die.

It feels like people are being way too quick to jump to definitive conclusions about his career trajectory after only two songs. While everyone is entitled to their personal preferences regarding genre and style, the comments discrediting his actual vocal abilities are just in bad-faith if you ask me...his technical skill is obvious, let's be so for real.

The Heeseung Phenomenon: An Artist Beyond Categories

I honestly don't think Heeseung fits neatly into the usual K-pop categories anymore.

And while it is still too early to say exactly which musical direction he will ultimately settle into based on just these first releases, what we have right now proves one thing: he wants to be a part of that rare group of artists who refuse to play by the safe, predictable rules of the K-pop conveyor belt. He has mentioned multiple times that he genuinely loves all music genres and wants to explore as many of them as possible. More than anything, this journey is about self-discovery—an open space for him to explore his own boundaries, strengths, and who he truly is as an independent creator.

That's why I think he's become such an interesting case for 4th- and 5th-generation idols. Whether people like it or not, he's showing that it's possible to pursue an independent artistic identity much earlier than most people expect.  He's proving that an artist doesn't have to wait until their thirties—or until their group disbands—to build an independent identity. That alone challenges one of the industry's biggest unwritten rules

Maybe that's one reason the backlash has been so intense.

Ironically, I think the constant criticism also says something about his relevance. Pop culture usually forgets people surprisingly quickly. If EVAN had disappeared after leaving the group, most conversations would've ended within days. Instead, people still analyze every live stage, every interview, and even harmless interactions with fans. To me, that suggests he still holds people's attention.

And of course, a huge part of this massive wave of attention came from sheer public curiosity—people wanted to see exactly what kind of music was worth walking away from a top-tier group for.

His solo debut certainly didn't go unnoticed. Ride or Die immediately became a talking point, and EVAN attracted listeners who were genuinely interested in his music rather than simply following him because of his past.

For some fans, especially those who wanted his solo career to fail, that's probably difficult to accept. When reality doesn't match expectations, frustration often finds smaller targets. Suddenly, tiny moments become controversies that would normally be ignored.

Another thing I've noticed is how fandoms sometimes create their own idea of "justice." Some people seem upset that Heeseung didn't disappear after leaving. There was no long hiatus or public downfall—he simply moved forward, released music, and found success. Whether that's fair or not, it seems to make certain people even more determined to criticize everything he does.

When you combine his former role in the group, the attention surrounding HYBE at the time, and the immediate visibility of EVAN, it's not surprising that his name generates so much engagement. Unfortunately, outrage is one of the easiest ways to get clicks online. His name generates clicks, engagement, and millions of views. Attacking someone as visible as Heeseung has become content in itself.

Personally, I don't think this level of hostility will last forever. Right now everything is still fresh because EVAN has only recently debuted. As both careers continue independently, emotions will probably settle, and people will gradually stop treating every new achievement as some kind of competition.

What impresses me most, though, is how difficult solo performing actually is.

Carrying an entire stage alone for several minutes is completely different from performing in a group. There's no one else to share the spotlight or give you a moment to breathe. Every vocal line, every movement, and every interaction depends entirely on you.

Heeseung has always stood out because of his musicality. His absolute pitch, vocal control, dance ability, and instinct for performance have been recognized for years. Even before EVAN, many people watched his covers simply because they enjoyed listening to him sing.

I've also always felt that his appeal extended beyond his own fandom. He seemed to attract casual listeners who appreciated his voice regardless.

Watching him perform  Overflow and then immediately switch into the intensity of Ride or Die really shows how versatile he has become. Those songs require completely different vocal approaches, yet he moves between them naturally. Add his production work, songwriting, and ability to play instruments, and it's clear he's trying to establish himself as a complete musician rather than only a performer.

The streaming numbers for EVAN's debut suggest that plenty of people are responding to the music itself. Short viral clips can amplify one imperfect moment from a live performance, but they can't erase the bigger picture.

I've always thought R&B was his natural foundation. Even during I-LAND and his ENHYPEN years, his vocal runs, phrasing, and rhythm leaned toward R&B and neo-soul. Now he's simply expanding that foundation by blending it with alternative rock and indie influences.

That's probably why Ride or Die feels different from typical K-pop releases. It's a song built around progression, live instruments, and emotional payoff. It isn't trying to grab attention within fifteen seconds—it asks people to listen from beginning to end.

Some listeners won't enjoy that direction, and that's perfectly fine. Music is subjective. But judging it only by K-pop standards misses what EVAN seems to be aiming for as an artist.

People often say that soloists aren't born—they're made. I think that's especially true here.

Being in a group naturally creates contrast between members. As a solo artist, there's nowhere to hide. Every tiny detail gets noticed. That's why I find it strange when people say he's somehow become "worse." To me, what we're seeing isn't decline—it's growth. He's still discovering what EVAN looks and sounds like.

The funny part is that many of the qualities people once praised are now suddenly being criticized. The skills themselves haven't disappeared. The context has simply changed. Solo performing demands a completely different mindset than performing in a synchronized group.

That's why I actually respect this stage of his career so much. He knew every performance would be compared to his past, every mistake would be magnified, and every creative decision questioned. Yet he still chose to take that risk.

Whether someone enjoys his music or not, I think it takes courage to leave the safest path behind and build something that genuinely feels like your own.

He's learning how to be EVAN.

The noise surrounding him is just that—noise. Like a train moving forward while people on the platform complain they were left behind, Heeseung continues to grow into a mature, independent musician.

And for those who genuinely love music rather than fandom wars, watching that evolution is one of the most exciting journeys in today's industry.

My Takeaway on Evan’s Solo Debut

*disclaimer: this is more of a nuanced take of everything and my own personal thoughts. i welcome any discussion but also pls be civil if you disagree with anything below. (+english is not my first language so bear with me)

after the hellhole of everything (10th march, debut, performances), i want to give my own thoughts of evan and everything.

i just want to say that it was incredibly admirable for him to take the leap and be a solo artist in such circumstances, especially when the circumstances were, imo, unfortunate (sudden departure, the hate around him and the rest of enha). from his videos and interviews, it really seemed he has a good grasp of what he wants, yet also feelings of uncertainty; and i want to stress that it is okay for him to feel uncertain and anxious, especially since him going solo is daunting and new, not to mention lonely.

now, i’m sure many of you guys have seen the comments on his performances and the struggle for voting. yes, it will be hard since we are up against songs from big names (especially since he is “new”) and that it may seem that a lot of people are turning against him. but think about it: no pre-sale, just streams and yet we have been nominated for a music show win. honestly, that is already an achievement; as some have said before, soloists tend to not be as popular to SK (with some exceptions) and i think not many realise this. he clearly has a strong support base and there are also new fans checking him out. his first week streams were also really good (close to 10M) when a lot of people turned their back on him. i think this performance really speaks volumes.

despite the challenges, i do think his debut is a success. a journey of self-discovery through his music, and wanting us to come along; i think ride or die really marks the starting point of everything he has. yes, it may not always be perfect and some music may not be up to par (might be downvoted for this but let’s be real; self-made things is all about trial and error, and not everything may be perfect); but that’s what evan wants: to be reassure us that no matter what, he reassures us fans that we will be together in this.

i became an ever through his music and performances, and i can’t wait to support him on his journey. EVAN FIGHTING!!!!

I’M BACKKKKK

Flaired it achievements cause I survived the practical 🙂‍↕️

It was CRAZY I have a pulled arm and a twisted ankle. Mind you this was a practical for public health in med school and yet I left that room looking like I just survived WW3.

Now I am back in my room, showered and awaiting a burrito bowl, and ready to meet Evan!

It’s just sinking in now, you know? He really is gone, he really did leave. It’s sinking in, full and final. This is it, this is irreversible.

But what’s sinking in at the same time is - I’m so so proud of him. He did this all by himself. He took the leap of faith. I can’t wait anymore I NEED to hear what he created. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself after March 10th it’s that I just really love this man 😭

Never understood what the lyrics of No Doubt really meant till he decided to up and leave and make me realize how attached I am to both him and Enha.

So one last time, one last cheer - Enhypen Heeseung, I love you, and I will miss you forever. May our paths cross again, if not in this lifetime, then in all the next ones.

यही कहूँगी मैं सदा

की दिल अभी नहीं भरा

बुरा ना मानो बात का

यह प्यार है गिला नहीं

And Evan, my love, I’ve been waiting for you for so long. Nice to finally meet you 🤭
