Why I Can't Watch the Loki Series

Hey There All,

Ok, so I was recently thinking of watching the Loki series on Disney + to kinda celebrate Avengers: Doomsday, as it is obvious that Loki will be a player in the movie, but I can't bring myself to do it. Now please know I absolutely looooooveee Loki, but that cartoon that seems to be in the show ain't Loki and it breaks my heart!!! So I never watched the show, but I pretty much know how it goes, so these are my issues with it.

Before I get into my critique, I want to address the defense for this show:

  1. Money-Maker:Although many Loki fans had major issues with the blatantly disrespectful way the character was handled overall for Marvel/Disney it was successful, and at the end of the day that's the bottom line. The company knew the show was a quick cash grab. Loki is one of the most beloved characters in the MCU, and Tom Hiddleston is beloved in the role; they knew people would watch because of the character/actor popularity. It didn't matter if it was a waste of time for real Loki/Marvel fans it was a money maker, and they made their money. Fans lost, but Disney won.

  2. The show was well-timed: Season 1 came out during COVID. Restrictions were starting to loosen; it was still very much COVID, masks and social distancing were still the norm, and most people were desperate for a form of escapism. People wanted to see the handsome face of a beloved character on their screens again. Also, Loki's dilemma was relatable; he was on lockdown, and everyone else was on lockdown or had just experiences lock down as well. Like Loki, most people had experienced loss of freedom; people couldn't go to work and school, restaurants and had to abide by strange new rules like wearing masks (not against masks; mask up if necessary). It was well-timed on Disney's part. It wasn't planned that way, but it worked. Many people felt powerless and so did the character.

  3. Tom Hiddleston: Most fell in love with Tom Hiddleston because of Loki. We learned he was a good-looking and extremely talented actor. Tom made Loki great and I would never take that away from him. He loves the character, and he loves fans enough to give 100%. Although I did not watch the show, I know he gave it his all. He sang, he danced, he cried, he looked foolish to keep fans entertained and that's a great thing. Fans wanted to watch him, but we wanted to watch him play Loki, not play Mr. Nobody, not play Homer Simpson.

So I know the show was successful and it makes sense that it found success on the business end, but on the fan level, on a storytelling level, it should not have been successful and isn't worth a purist Loki fan's time. So here is that analysis:

  1. As far as storytelling, the series makes no sense. Loki as a character had a complete arc. It's beautiful and nearly perfect throughout the Infinity Saga. WE hated to lose him, but we knew Loki went from villain to hero, endgame, mic-drop. There really was no more to say unless he was going to be resurrected and continue; there was nothing else Loki needed to do.

Marvel wanted to set up the TVA, but why use Loki? He was dead (I've already explained why *Tom Hiddleston*), but as a storyteller it makes no sense. There were plenty of other characters available to use. Ant-Man was already introducing a Kang variant so why not keep him with the Kangs? Think about if Mantis; she's a sweet puppy-like character who could have easily filled the role.

  1. Disrespect of Character and good writing: Loki is a beloved character throughout the franchise and in Marvel lore. He is a character that Stan Lee was proud of and, I doubt that Stan Lee (RIP) would have wanted the character to be treated that way. He made Loki a challenging foe to Thor, but also complex and emotional. He's a villain with a heart an,d that's what makes him interesting. You don't know if he's going to stab the character in the back or actually help when needed. Loki's character is meant to be smooth-talking, cunning, powerful, smart, and fun, but what the series did to him left him none of those things. Well, what's the point in that? That's not watching a character grow. There were many ways to allow Loki to be good without making him just personality-less. It's just no longer fun. I love Loki's conflict and inner turmoil. I love that he has a soft side, but we all love the marvelous trickster as well. But the character is multifaceted; this version seems to have no facets

  2. The fact that Loki needs the validation from the TVA people makes no sense. Loki had a family. He had people who loved him and let him be himself. Who wants to be around people who roll their eyes at everything you say. Thor's real relationship is with Thor and that's really where it needs to stay. His family genuinely loved him and he loved them. We didn't need the TVA to show us that Loki would love and sacrifice for people. He proved that in the Infinity Saga.

This show is such a waste for Loki fans. At the end of the day Marvel films should be able fun; a trickster who doesn't trick isn't fun. I get the actor wanting something different and I love Tom, but I loved him because he embodied Loki; this character isn't Loki. It may have some well-acted scenes, but the magic is gone and that's pretty sad if Loki has no spark

Do we think that Loki is currently the most powerful character in the MCU?

I was leaning that way but I’m not sure what his restrictions are after the events of Season 2’s finale. How do you think he’d fair against the likes of Doom, Doctor Strange, Thor, and Captain Marvel?

First time watching the MCU! Question about the Loki show and the 616 timeline

Hey everyone,
I’m watching through the MCU for the very first time, and I’m trying to wrap my head around the timeline logic for the Loki series.
The main Loki we follow in the movies (Earth-616) died in Infinity War right! Then in Endgame, the Avengers travel back to 2012, mess up, and accidentally let the 2012 Loki escape with the Tesseract.
Since the Avengers created a branched timeline by going back, doesn't that mean the Loki in the show is technically not the 616 Loki, but rather a completely different variant from a new timeline?
As a new fan, I'm a bit confused on how the fandom or the TVA officially classifies him

The story of universe 616 that has been told over the decades is a tragic tale.

I’m not the biggest comic book fan, nor do I know everything there is to know. I’ve been trying to refresh my knowledge and catch up movies and shows before doomsday. As the show suggests in combination with other scenes, it made me wonder “What if..?”.

With the recent introduction of the most recent universe being protected by the fantastic 4, something began to come to mind. What if, from a time perspective universe 616 was doing too much in such a small amount of time thus leading to the failure and collapse of universe 616. Perhaps someone can help support this perspective with better facts. Consider the watcher, he observed what happened in time over 500 1000 2000 years. Then we have 616 with like 3 snaps, time traveling, bending of reality, Loki literally holding things together. Pun intended, but he seems to just be buying time for everyone. All within like 20 years. Thats what leads me to believe the story of 616 is a sad tale of how 616 was ground zero for some of the most destructive forces all at once.

Now compare that to how the F4 ran their universe. Quite different, cleaner, more optimal, more efficient. In universe 616, the only time they have used major powers was to literally defend and fight. Giving way to 2 completely different outcomes.

So my theory is there is no saving 616. I think frankly can see it happening but does not understand quite what is happening nor does he have fun control of his powers yet. But these events that happened to 616 could be like a beacon that goes off. This could catch not only Franklin, reed, but also dr doom’s attention. So I think the introduction of doom is not the big reveal but the clock ticking down is how long before someone needs to do something for the already failing universe of 616. This allows for secret wars and also creates the perfect setting for Franklin to understand his powers and what not to do with.

So our cast will need to come to terms with letting it all go.

Yep 20 years of marvel movies is just a prequel for franklin coming in and giving a soft reboot to the universe.

Hopefully someone chimes in on this. I never did anything like this before, so please be kind. I’ve just found a passion in film and acting and scripts so I wanted to try my hand . Thank you for your time.

What about the beginning in the Loki series ?

Hey I don't know if I'm at the right place but I just finished the 2021 series, and I don't understand why the universes would decay without something.

We know that before the multiversal war they was nothing. Then a Kang won and became he who remains to isolate the sacred timeline. But when he died and the loom was destroyed, the multiverse was no longer stable ? Then how would it exist before the multiversal war, or even before the kangs were even born ? What made it stable ? Do we even know the answer ? Thanks.

I think the spoilers are too sparse to be understood by someone who didn't watch it. Tell me.

If these two (from Earth 982) appeared in the Void, who would you imagine playing them?

Loki from Earth-982 was the main antagonist of “Last Hero Standing,” and his daughter Sylene was the antagonist of “Avengers Next”. Who do you think would play them if they appeared? What would their dynamic be with each other and with the main cast?

Edit (2:30 PM MST): Okay, new rule! No recommending actors already affiliated with the MCU. At the end of "Last Hero Standing", >!Loki killed Captain America and was banished by Thor to an Asgardian Void for it.!< 982 Loki is a much darker version of MCU Loki, so I'm imagining an actor who can play cruel characters (like Ralph Fiennes, who has played Lord Voldemort, Pharaoh Ramses, and President Snow).
