FeelMyMac: an app that lets you feel different textures through your Mac’s trackpad

Hey r/macapps, I'm TheHighJack, the developer of FeelMyMac.

I wanted to change how my Mac feels, not just how it looks.

FeelMyMac adds haptic textures to cursor movement and scrolling on a compatible trackpad. Instead of only feeling feedback when you click, you can feel a simulated surface as you move.

There are six materials: Felt, Bouclé, Pebbled, Fine grit, Soft grid and Line grid. Movement, scrolling and tap feedback can be enabled separately, and the accompanying sound is optional.

The goal isn't to add another workflow or promise to make you more productive. It's simply to make using your Mac feel more satisfying.

I've attached a short video to show the idea. Obviously, you can't feel haptics through a video, so there's a free demo to try on your own trackpad.

Comparison

HapticPad focuses on haptic cues when hovering over links, buttons and inputs in a browser.

FeelMyMac focuses on the movement itself: giving cursor movement and scrolling a material-like texture, rather than signalling that you've reached something clickable.

Pricing

The free demo includes Felt, Bouclé and one sound profile, with no time limit. No account, email or payment card required.

The full license is $3.99 USD, paid once. It unlocks all six materials, additional sound controls and keyboard sounds. Future updates are included, with no subscription.

Free demo:

https://feelmymac.thehighjack.it/demo/

Full license:

https://feelmymac.thehighjack.it/license/

Compatibility and privacy

Requires macOS 15.1 or later. Haptic and Material feedback are currently verified on Apple-silicon Macs with a compatible trackpad. External trackpad support includes the current USB-C Magic Trackpad; compatibility is checked locally by the app.

Enabled interaction feedback requires Accessibility permission. Input events are processed locally, and the app doesn't record typed text or send interaction data to us.

New nullPlayer release 0.27.0 -- New compact window, improvements and bugfixes - get it for macOS on github or homebrew

https://github.com/ad-repo/nullplayer/releases/tag/0.27.0

# one-time configuration
brew tap ad-repo/nullplayer

brew install --cask ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer

or if already installed manually
brew install --cask --force ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer

To upgrade to a new release:
brew update
brew upgrade --cask ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer

New Features

  • Compact Window adds a free-floating mini player — the Windows menu and main-window context menu now include Compact Window, which uses the same compact Library Browser mini-player as Compact Mode but keeps NullPlayer as a regular Dock/menu-bar app. It hides only the main window, leaves Playlist/EQ/Spectrum/Library/visualization windows where they are, uses normal window level unless Always on Top is enabled, can be dragged from both the player bar and browser area, remembers its frame, and restores across launches.
  • Balance control added to Playback menu — the Playback options now include a Balance submenu with a slider and common left/center/right presets, giving modern UI and menu-only workflows access to stereo balance without adding more controls to the player face.

Improvements

  • Modern and Metal UI now use a modern system font — the retro low-fi bitmap font (Departure Mono) has been replaced throughout the Modern and Metal windows — Library tabs and headers, the main window, playlist, EQ, and spectrum — with the crisp macOS system font. Time and track digits stay monospaced so they don't jitter. Skins that ship their own custom font still render it as before.
  • License and branding terms clarified — the project license notice and README now state GPL-3.0-only distribution terms and clarify that modified distributions must not reuse the NullPlayer name, icon, logo, bundle identity, or other branding without permission.
  • Compact Mode player bar reads like the main window — in Modern and Metal, the Compact Mode display now splits into two distinct LCD "windows" with a padded gap: a single elapsed/remaining time counter on the left and the scrolling track title on the right (previously the title sat left with a cramped "elapsed / total" reading pinned to the right). The counter matches the title's size and weight, and the transport buttons are slightly larger.
  • Larger Library tab and control fonts — the Library Browser's tab labels and control text render at a slightly larger size in non-compact mode for better legibility. Compact Mode is unchanged.

Changes

  • Window shade mode removed — double-clicking a window's title bar no longer collapses it to a title-bar-only strip ("windowshade"). This legacy Winamp feature was the source of recurring layout glitches when combined with Large UI, Compact Mode, and live UI-mode switching; removing it makes window sizing and position memory behave consistently across every window in Classic, Modern, and Metal.
  • Library source menu lists only sources — the Library Browser's source picker no longer injects local-library settings ("Manage Folders…" and the "Clear Local Library" submenu) when the local source is active. Those are settings, not sources, and already live in the Library menu-bar item, so the source menu now lists sources only.

Bug Fixes

  • Metal skin transport icons are now fully filled — the previous/next (and eject) icons in the Metal finishes no longer show a stray light vertical line: the icon bars now draw in the same transport-button color as the rest of the glyph instead of the skin's light primary color.
  • Plex Artists no longer show duplicate same-name rows — the Library Browser now groups Plex artist records with the same display name into one visible artist row in both classic and modern UI. Expanding, playing, or queueing that row still fans out across every underlying Plex ratingKey, so albums and tracks attached to duplicate server-side artist records remain accessible instead of being hidden.
  • Compact Mode art ratings fit the small UI — the modern Library Browser's art-view rating stars now shrink in Compact Mode, preventing them from crowding or overlapping the source/library picker row.
  • Compact Window no longer reopens the main window after Space switches — returning from another desktop or fullscreen app now focuses the floating compact mini-player instead of treating the hidden main window as something to restore, so Compact Window stays a one-window main-player replacement until you exit it.
  • Library window remembers where you put it — after unlocking the connected windows and moving the Library/browser window, it now reopens at the exact position and size you left it — across closing and reopening it (via the menu or the red close button) and across full app restarts, even when it was closed at quit. First-ever opens still dock to the right of the window stack, and the position survives Compact Mode. Playlist, EQ, and Spectrum still intentionally snap back into the column below the main window.
  • Classic Large UI toggles instantly — no restart — turning Large UI on or off in the classic skin now resizes the windows in place, matching the modern UI, instead of asking you to relaunch. The player, EQ, playlist, and other windows redraw crisply at the new size (no leftover "ghost" of the old size), and switching between Classic, Modern, and Metal while Large UI is on no longer distorts the new look.
  • ProjectM visualizer recovers from a preset that crashes mid-playback — a rare bug inside the MilkDrop preset engine could crash the app while a preset was on screen — including minutes into a track, not just when the preset first appeared. The crash-guard now watches a preset for its entire time on screen (previously only its first frame), so the offending preset is automatically skipped on the next launch and the crash never recurs. Normal quits never flag a good preset.
  • Metal playlist and Library highlights are now clearly visible — in Metal skins, the playlist's now-playing track and the Library Browser's selected/expanded row were indicated by text color alone, which several metal finishes render nearly identical to normal rows, so the active row was easy to miss. Both now draw a translucent green backlit-LCD highlight bar (matching the hi-fi display panels) as the cue. The metal playlist's row text is also unified at the Library window's brightness — previously it was dimmer — and the current track no longer recolors to the accent tone that clashed with the new highlight.

[OS] SCM — Open sourced, free ai-powered photo/video search engine

Hello everyone! I'm Allen, developer of SCM (Screen Memory). SCM is an open-source AI visual library search engine for macOS — 100% local.

Problem I'm solving:
my photo library is a graveyard — thousands of IMG_1234s, screenshots mixed with real photos, and videos where I know the moment exists but can't find it. Built-in search only matches filenames/dates, and anything smarter means uploading my life to someone's cloud. I wanted to type what I actually remember — a vibe, a scene, a spoken line, text on a sign — and land on the exact shot, with nothing ever leaving my Mac.

What's SCM

It indexes your photos and videos with local models (CLIP / SigLIP2) and lets you search in plain language — "retro-style devices" or "a few men at a party" jumps straight to the image or exact video scene.

Five search modes: Files / Scenes / OCR / Dialogue (exact Whisper spoken-line search) + LLMs (opt-in local chat over your library with citations). Save any query as a tab.

Search in a selected view: tabs aren't just browsing — they're search scopes. Select Screenshots, Email, Videos, or any saved tab and every query stays inside it. Scope first, then search. In LLMs chat it's explicit: start with /screenshots, /videos, or /email to narrow the corpus before the model runs.

Launchpad for macOS 26 & 27: Launchie Brings Launchpad Back, Even Better

Hey r/macapps ,

I just released Launchie 1.6.3 yet. It is the biggest release ever since the first version of Launchie back in September 2025.

The most important feature: It finally allows importing your existing grid from the original Launchpad, or from other Launchpad Replacements like LaunchOS or LaunchNext. If you need other import routes please let me know.

Video Walkthrough: https://youtu.be/xEF4nDC7kEc (no sound)

Problem

Launchpad used to be a simple, visual way to open and organize apps on macOS. Since Apple removed it, there is no real built-in replacement for people who liked having an app grid, folders, and quick access to their installed apps.

Launchie brings that workflow back, but with more control:

  • Launchpad-style app grid
  • Folders and Spaces for organizing apps
  • Drag and drop rearranging
  • Keyboard shortcut, hot corner, app icon, or menu bar activation
  • Customizable layout, window size, columns, Quick Access, hidden apps, and more

I built Launchie because I personally missed that workflow, and a lot of users seemed to feel the same.

Also the direct version brings some additional feature:

  • Use F4 / Spotlight to open and close Launchie
  • Use the 4 finger pinch to open/close Launchie
  • Use a 3 finger swipe to open/close Launchie

Comparison

There are already other good apps in this space, including LaunchNext and LaunchOS.

Launchie’s focus is slightly different: I’m trying to keep the original Launchpad feeling, while adding deeper customization and a more native macOS-style experience. For example, Launchie supports folders, Spaces, drag-and-drop organization, Quick Access, hot corners, keyboard shortcuts, and a lot of layout options.

I’m also actively developing it based on user feedback. Many of the recent changes came directly from emails, DMs, and comments from users. I reply to feedback, and when an idea makes sense for the app, I try to implement it.

Pricing

US pricing:

  • Lifetime: $14.99
  • Yearly: $7.99

Family Sharing is supported. On the non App Store version the price is the same. One license can be used for up to 5 Macs.

Mac App Store: Launchie on the Mac App Store

Launchie is also available via Homebrew (see https://launchie.app for more details)

Recent Updates:

  • Apps and folders now shrink and fade as they scroll in and out of view, instead of being cut off at the edge. Turn it off in Settings > Appearance > Animate Icons at Edges.
  • Opening and closing a folder is now a quick, clean fade instead of blending both grids on top of each other.
  • Closing a folder now returns you to where you had scrolled, instead of jumping back to the top.
  • Added importing your layout from macOS Launchpad, LaunchNext or LaunchOS. Your folders and app order carry over, and Launchpad's even survive the upgrade to macOS 26 or later. LaunchNext backups work too. Find it in the Getting Started guide or in Settings > Backup.
  • Redesigned the Getting Started guide
  • New installs now open Launchie with ⌥Space instead of ⌘K. Existing hotkeys stay as they are.
  • Fixed switching to Maximized or Fullscreen needing two clicks. The window no longer flickers back to its windowed size after the first click.
  • New installs start with a 80% × 80% window, and 30% background transparency and tint.
  • New Pro option to hide app names, for a grid of icons only. Folder names stay, and hovering an app shows its name. Find it in Settings > Appearance > Hide App Names.
  • Hidden apps can now show up in search if you want them to, marked with a crossed-out eye. Turn it on right under the search field whenever hidden apps match, or in Settings > Hidden Apps > Show Hidden Apps in Search.
  • Switching Spaces with a two-finger swipe or a drag now follows your fingers like Launchpad: the next Space slides in alongside, and letting go early springs back.
  • Direct download & Homebrew The trackpad pinch and three-finger swipe now open and close Launchie in step with your fingers, like Launchpad. Stop halfway and it waits; move back and it undoes.
  • Direct download & Homebrew New Pro option: open Launchie with the Spotlight key (F4) instead of Spotlight, like the Launchpad key used to. The Launchpad key on older keyboards works too, and Spotlight stays on ⌘Space. Find it in Settings > General > Spotlight Key.
  • After an update, Launchie now shows what's new once, with the highlights that apply to your version. "Changelog" opens the full list of changes for it.
  • Fixed holding Option and scrolling a mouse wheel switching Spaces only once. It now keeps moving through Spaces as long as you keep scrolling, and no longer scrolls the grid in between.
  • Fixed right-clicking an app in the List layout offering only "Add to Favorites". Apps now get the full menu (Rename, Hide, Spaces, Open in Finder, Create Folder, Send to Folder), and folders in the list get a right-click menu too.
  • Fixed Quick Access flickering while you change a setting, such as dragging a slider. Apps with the same launch count kept swapping places; Most Used and Recent now keep a steady order.

Vory 1.3: Vory for Mac, iCloud sync, projects, and everything from 1.2 (with a video of both devices side by side)

Hey everyone. First, an apology. I posted 1.2 here before it had cleared beta review, and it never reached you. That was on me, and this post goes up only now that 1.3 is actually in TestFlight. Everything from the 1.2 post is in 1.3, plus a lot more, and most of it came from your reports. Thank you for every one of them.

The video shows the iPhone and the Mac working on one chat at the same time.

Vory for Mac

The same app, in a window. A rail of pages on the left with the same icons as the phone, the chat list beside the open chat, and the thread in a reading column. Return sends, Shift-Return adds a line, and you can drop files or paste images into the composer. Running turns and waiting approvals live in the menu bar with Approve and Deny, and the Dock icon carries a badge for what needs you. It is in the same TestFlight beta, so open TestFlight on your Mac to get it.

One chat on two devices

Send from the Mac and the message and the reply appear on the iPhone as you watch. An approval card reaches both, and answering it on one clears it on the other. A chat open on one device can be picked up on the other with Handoff.

iCloud sync

Your settings, bot looks, your name on Home and your saved gateways follow you between devices through your own iCloud. Nothing is hosted by Vory and there is no account. A new device offers Restore from iCloud on its first screen.

Projects

Filters, then Group by project sorts your chats under each project on both devices. Press and hold a chat for Move to Project, or select several and move them together.

At a glance

With Vory Summaries on, a working bot shows what it is trying to get done, on the chat row, on Home, in the Live Activity and in the Mac's menu bar, with the current step under it. The sparkle on a chat pulses while its summary is being written.

From 1.2, now actually here

Home, the dashboard tab with your month in numbers, your bots and the chats to pick back up. Bots that show when they message each other. New chat in one tap, with a press and hold for the full sheet. Reply quotes, the attach panel, eight accents and three bubble styles, pull-down search, Hermes Projects, Settings › Plugins.

Previous Post of 1.2 Update: https://www.reddit.com/r/hermesagent/s/4Dggfu3BSC

Fixed from your reports

The thread jumping to its top or going blank when a message arrived. A chat moving to another bot after a reconnect. Live Activities that vanished during long work or were erased by a tap. The jump-to-bottom arrow after a long absence. Notifications that stayed after a chat was read. The composer jumping or vanishing mid-turn. A turn cut off with "Operation interrupted" now says what happened and how to keep long work running.

Vory 1.3 on TestFlight, iPhone and Mac: https://vory.dev

It needs Companion 1.0.37 on your gateway. Update it from Settings › Companion.

Requests and fixes are tracked in the open: https://github.com/matt0975/vory/issues

If you hit anything, the feedback button in TestFlight or the tracker both reach me. Releases and the fixes in progress go up on X as they happen: https://x.com/_mattwagner_

Android support is next on the roadmap. Thanks again for testing.

I made a Mac app that turns your screen into a webcam feed, so you can hide windows from it mid-call

I share my screen on calls a lot, and what bothers me is that it's all or nothing. Whatever is on the screen goes out, including notifications that pop up halfway through. [Replace this with your own reason if it's different.]

So I built PrivacyStage. Here's what it actually does.

It installs a virtual camera on your Mac. Instead of pressing "Share screen" in Zoom, Meet or Teams, you pick PrivacyStage as your camera, and your screen shows up as the video. Since the app controls that feed, it can leave things out of it:

You tick windows in a list and they disappear from the feed right away. Untick them and they come back. You don't have to stop sharing.

Finder and the desktop can be filtered out, so file names and desktop icons don't show.

Notification banners are kept out of the feed. You still see them, the people on the call don't.

There's an optional OCR scan (Apple's Vision, runs on the Mac) that looks for things like email addresses and card numbers on screen and puts a mask over them.

⌃⌥⌘H opens the hide list from anywhere.

What it doesn't do, so nobody's surprised:

It doesn't change the normal "Share screen" in Zoom or any other app. macOS doesn't let one app edit another app's screen share. It only works when people are watching the PrivacyStage camera.

Apps in native full-screen can't be hidden one by one, because macOS puts them on their own Space. Keep sensitive things in normal windows.

Setup takes about a minute: Screen Recording permission, then approving the camera extension in System Settings. The app has to be in /Applications for the extension to install.

Privacy: nothing from your screen leaves the Mac. The app only goes online to check the license or trial and to look for updates. No account, no analytics.

It needs macOS 14.6 or later. It's $6.99 once for one Mac, and there's a 7-day trial that doesn't ask for a card. I sell it from my own site instead of the App Store.

https://aieltokhy.com/privacystage/

I'm the only one working on this, so if something breaks or the setup is confusing, I'd really like to know.

I built Paste Box Scratchpad, privacy first native menu bar utility so you never lose a snippet or a thought. One-time purchase, notarized, App Store.

Hey r/macosapps

Like many of you, I constantly found myself juggling two annoying problems throughout the workday:

  1. Copying something, accidentally overwriting it with another copy, and losing the original snippet.
  2. Opening a bulky notes app or a random browser tab just to temporarily hold a snippet, API key, formatted prompt, or quick note while working.

Most clipboard managers focus only on history, while note apps are too heavy for temporary scratch work. I wanted something lightweight that lives right in the menu bar and handles both seamlessly without subscriptions or bloat.

So I built Paste Box.

What is Paste Box?

It combines a fast clipboard history manager with a persistent scratchpad designed for quick drafting and staging text.

Key Features:

  • 📋 Unified Clipboard History: Automatically logs what you copy with fast instant search so you can retrieve past snippets in seconds.
  • 📝 Persistent Scratchpad & Drafts: A dedicated space to stage thoughts, compose messages, or hold temporary text that stays intact even across system restarts.
  • 🔒 Privacy-First & 100% Offline: Sandboxed with zero network tracking, analytics, or third-party telemetry. All data stays strictly on your Mac.
  • ✨ Smart Clean-Text Formatting: One-click actions to strip excess formatting, trim whitespaces, and paste clean text sanity.
  • ⚡ Menu Bar First & Native Feel: Compact, glassmorphic interface that stays out of your way until you need it, with Launch at Login support.
  • ✍️ Spell Checking & LLM Drafting: Built-in spell checking and a distraction-free area to polish prompts or responses before pasting them into tools.

Link & Feedback

One time purchase of 2.99 USD

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any feature requests you'd like to see in upcoming updates!

I built an app that turns the song you're listening to into an animated vinyl wallpaper, now with two new scenes!

Hey! I'm Shiv and I built Vinyl, an app that turns the song you're listening to into an animated vinyl wallpaper. I shared it here a while back, and today I'm back with the latest release, v1.2.0, which adds two new scenes: Listening Room and After Hours.

Check it out here: vinylformac.com

What's new in v1.2.0

  • Listening Room: a richly detailed listening setup with golden sunlight, soft moving shadows, and textured paper sleeves
  • After Hours: a glowing glass lamp and layered amber light for late-night listening
  • Your live album artwork now appears on the stand and the spinning record label, with up to five recently played covers stacked beside the turntable
  • Wide, Mid, and Close framing for both rooms, with transparent background support so they sit on your own wallpaper
  • Smoother artwork transitions, plus accessibility and reflection improvements in the original Turntable scene

Problem

macOS doesn't have any native way to connect your desktop to the music you're listening to. Vinyl picks up what's playing on Spotify or Apple Music and turns your whole desktop into a live animated scene with your album artwork spinning on the record.

Comparison

The two closest apps are VinylPod (free, App Store) and Sleeve ($5, replay.software). VinylPod has a spinning record widget and a "cover art as wallpaper" option, but the wallpaper is just a static album art fill with no animation. Sleeve is a nice now-playing widget that sits on your desktop, but it's a small overlay, not a wallpaper. Vinyl takes over the entire desktop with a full-screen animated scene, and now you can choose between three: the original Turntable, Listening Room, and After Hours.

Pricing

One-time purchase, $4.99. No subscription. Existing users get v1.2.0 free. Buy here

Phosphor: a menu bar screen utility suite with a feature that eases the flash when you switch from a dark app to a bright one

Hey!

I'm the developer of Phosphor, a screen utility suite for macOS that lives in your menu bar. A bit about me: I'm a solo student developer, you can find me on LinkedIn.

Problem: I mainly started building this around two problems. When people are on their laptops late at night, and switch from a dark app to a bright one, it hits like a flash before your eyes adjust. I looked and couldn't find a tool that tries to solve that problem, so I built one. Phosphor tackles this by dimming a screen before you switch to it, and then easing the brightness back up, at a pace depending on how fast that screen actually is. For screens which aren't bright, it is faster, and for bright ones, it is slower. So it works preemptively.

The other thing is that I feel like there are too many display utilities out there, each doing different things. It'd reduce menu bar clutter and keep things simpler and better if we used one tool instead of several. So I thought of combining the features people actually need into one tool, external and multi-monitor support included (that's a part of what's coming next).

The foundational features have already been released, and I'm actively building more features and improving existing ones (check roadmap for current features and future plans). Let me know what you'd actually use, and I'll factor that in as it grows. I want this to eventually handle most of what people need from their displays.

Comparison: BetterDisplay and Lunar both do display control, but they're broader tools with a learning curve if you just want a few specific things fast. The closest match to Flashbang specifically is Menubar Auto Brightness (based on my research), a tool that sets a fixed brightness per app. Phosphor catches the actual switch and eases brightness back up instead of jumping to a fixed value, though it currently only covers switches on the same desktop, not across Spaces or within an app.

Pricing: It's a freemium model.

  • Pro currently only includes Flashbang Protection, but it'll grow, and costs $10, one-time, not a subscription.
  • The rest of the foundational utilities are free: Color Picker, Screenshots, Resolution Presets, Refresh Rate Control, Soft Screen, Display Schedule, Focus Spotlight, Display Health, Color Grading.
  • If you buy Pro now, you get Phase 2 free when it ships, and 50% off future price increases after that (price increases as more features ship).

Details: macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel. Native Swift, under 2 MB.

Privacy: No analytics, nothing about your screen or usage leaves your Mac. It only goes online to check a license key at activation and periodically after. Full policy: https://usephosphor.app/privacy, EULA: https://usephosphor.app/eula

I'd like to hear any feedback y'all have, especially on whether Flashbang's recovery speed feels right, or if it's not catching a switch you'd expect it to.

If something's not working, or if you have any suggestions or anything else you want to say, feel free to drop it into the comments and/or DM me.
