Domestic ducks - Muscovy

These are our 6 week old Muscovy ducks; we’ve had them since they were a day or two old. I am completely obsessed with them!

I’m a first time duck mom so I’ve naturally been doing a lot of research, and at every stage of growth so far, I have yet to see photos of Muscovy ducklings that look like these two!

They have the front claws and single back claw which is standard to Muscovies but that seems to be the only similarity. AI has said they could be pied muscovies but I haven’t even seen photos of that type that look similar to these two.

Has anyone seen Muscovies like this at a similar age?

If she had thumbs, she’d have her own account.

“the thing” is part of our morning routine. Not every morning- but she absolutely knows when I’m filming her.

Muscovy Duck Agression

Hello!
I have a 4-month-old mute duck named Zorro. He’s been part of the family since he was 15 days old, when I went to pick him up.
He’s always been very gentle and has never caused any trouble. It seems that, overnight, he became extremely aggressive, vocal, and territorial—to the point of being quite violent.
Is this normal?

Little duckies and a little chick that thinks its a ducky

Somehow a chicken egg made its way with the rest of the duck eggs, and now I am pretty sure it thinks it's a duck too. I have to take note of when she takes them bathing, because I don't want it to drown.

I did a little wing wrap for the first time

So the baby with the weird feathers was getting a bit worse, and I think it was starting to twist the wing in a wrong way, so I did a search and I saw this simple way to wrap it. It's the first time I do it and maybe it's not perfect, but I think it will be better than doing nothing. Let me know your opinions!

EGG CANDLING ADVICE

This is day 15. There’s movement and veins. My only question is the air cell size. My humidity has been reading around 50-55 during the day but at night it does drop to around 25-30. Is the air cell too small? Too big? Opinions please! I really want this one to hatch. I only have 1 egg. Any advice would be appreciated!

im scared of ducks

i love watching animals and i like watching them in general but im TERRIFIED of ducks and we specifically have muscovies in our neighborhood that i watch frequently and one tried to approach me because it was friendly and i was trying to like be open even though my heart was beating out my CHEST then it turned to come into the garage and i ran away and closed the garage 😪 ive never had one approach me and i was actually excited BUT im scared to touch one because i heard they have samonella and a ton of parasites or something and i dont wanna get that from touching it so is it even ok to touch the wild ones..? and what happens if i like accidently touch my face before washing my hands like will i be done for?!

ok but the main advice needed is how do i not be scared of these friendly ducks specifically, i also didnt have anything on me to feed it with so i dont know why it approached but i really wish i wouldve had the balls to like you know coexist with the ducks if ykwim 😭..

for those that remember bob

a couple of months ago we noticed he was injured. he had blood on his undercarriage, some blood and marks on his beak, and he was manipulating his right wing oddly.

now, for those that didn’t know, bob isn’t native to the uk but i found him on our local canal locks and spent almost a year being his friend. i’d sit with him, feed him, he even let me stroke him, he would shake his tail whenever he saw me and always came to greet me (except when he was particularly sleepy). he was my chill lil friend. i spoke to people about him because others were intrigued and had seen him (he stood out given there are no muscovy ducks elsewhere).

i reported his injury, and the fact he didn’t seem himself. he wasn’t eating or acting hungry and i was very concerned. the people i reported it to said they couldn’t do anything as they couldn’t get anyone out. i also reported it to a local wildlife conservation and then next time i went to the lock, he was gone. and he’s not returned.

i’m choosing to believe that he’s been rescued and cared for. as he’s not native to our wildlife, and he seemed quite young still, i’m hoping that he’s being cared for and has other muscovy pals to buddy around with. however, i don’t know for sure and i don’t think i’ll ever know.

it came as a blow as i didn’t really say goodbye in a way that felt final, which i anticipated having to do as my husband and i are leaving the country later this year for a new start elsewhere. and i always hoped id be able to visit him when we returned but this is probably for the best.

so for anyone that loved seeing my bob posts, here are the last photos i have of him. the first taken just days before we saw him for the final time.

Meet Fenix, my first rescue

This is the first time I rescued an adult duck. I'm going to keep it separate for now. I think his nails are a bit long, and it doesn't look too waterproof. Apart from that, looks healthy. Just old, I guess. He's been living alone in a small enclosure for a while, probably fed chicken food. He had a bath and all. Let's see.

Any advice is welcome, so feel free to share your expertise ☺️

My duck hate swimming

My duck Zara, since she turned one year old and started laying eggs, stopped swimming in the water; she only plays, but nothing else.

What should I do? Is this normal in this breed of ducks?

Broody girl

I believe my Muscovy girl has gone extreme Brody been sitting on nest no eggs for about two weeks. Today she tried pecking me my boots, my leg, and then she tried to fly at me. She was chasing me. I had to get the hose and put it on mist and aim it at her, got her to back off when I came back from a walk with the dog she was on the porch rail, waiting for me. Anybody else have this thing happened to them?
