What happened at terminal 5 departures today?

Someone I know was dropping people off at o’hare terminal 5 around 4pm today and saw like an ambulance and tons of blood, apparently even more…

No cops around, just the ambulance. People were kind of going about their business apparently, not a huge reaction or anything. Anyone know wtf happened??

International flight question

Hello all!

To make this quick, my boyfriend planned a surprise trip to Japan for my birthday in October. Only problem is he told me we were leaving the 2nd, but we’re actually leaving the 1st.

I get off work at 9:00 am, and the flight is at 12:00 am. I can leave work 2 hours early, which would (roughly) get us to Ohare at 10:00 am.

Everyone always says arrive 3 hours early for international flights… but is that TRULY necessary?? I have a skewed opinion because every time I’ve flown internationally, the flights all got delayed a ton. I’ve also heard ORD is a nightmare to navigate, which makes me want to take the day off. We usually fly out of MKE.

I would rather not attempt to ask for an additional day off, but I will if I have to.

TLDR: wondering if arriving 3 hours before flight absolutely necessary bc I’m scared to ask for an additional day off

Security incident this morning

This morning around 6:30ish am I’d say while standing in the line for security a man ran behind the British Airways luggage drop off/ticketing desk (there’s probably a simpler way of describing this but I’m exhausted) and literally threw himself through the opening where the bags go through down the conveyor belt. 2 of the desk agents ran after him but it was too late and he was already gone. about 20 of us saw it and an older gentleman behind us alerted several TSA officers and was pretty panicked. I am surprised that I didn’t hear more about this or that flights weren’t put on a ground stop or something. At this point it’s just curiosity- what would happen in this instance, or would that man be injured? I have no idea what the inside of that area or mechanics looks like.

Abuse of the public

This entire industry abuses the public because we have no other options.

Free from Chicago to Philly on Friday. Sat on the tarmac for two hours. Eventually got there. All good.

Was supposed to come back last night. The flight was delayed for over 7 hours. Just kept saying we’d be leaving. I’m with two small children so eventually booked a flight this morning and stayed at a hotel. No voucher, no compensation, just a rude gate agent who wouldn’t even directly address me because the tickets were booked by my wife.

Now, at the airport again, they are now saying our crew is delayed and coming from another airport. Won’t even have the decency to officially announce the flight is delayed and an estimated departure, it just obviously is. Who knows if this flight will leave.

I am an anxious flyer but have been doing better with the help of Xanax. I have no Xanax for today because I used it yesterday for the flight that never left.

The gate agents are nothing but rude and condescending. This is a nightmare. Never flying again.

Chicago O Hare priority pass lounges- terminal 5!

Something to keep in mind about lounges in terminal 5! Which is where they all seemed to be in August 2026.

We were stuck on a delayed connected in Chicago O Hare airport and we tried going to the Lounges but couldn’t. We did not want to go through security again and followed signs for terminal transfer bus that you can use so you don’t have to go through security again but as we approached the area, we were told that we couldn’t board the shuttle for just visiting the lounges, you actually needed a flight connection from terminal 5 in order to use the shuttle.

So just be mindful of that for priority pass lounges- it’s too bad all of the lounges are in terminal 5! Plan to go through security again if you want to visit from another terminal.

Wasn’t worth it for us.

How to get to hotel from O'Hare airport

i am arriving this week with my daughter and we will have a number of suitcases and therefore the train is not suitable. Can anyone recommend a car service from O'Hare to our hotel beside Navy Pier? Or do we just get a cab at the airport or an uber?

I'm taking the Blue Line from O'Hare to Millennium Station -- which stop should I get off at?

Also, how do I get from the L stop to Millennium station? Is it all underground or do I need to go up to street level?

EY11 flight from Abu Dhabi to Chicago Aug 11th delayed baggage

Hello all,

After landing in Chicago, we were told that 131 bags did not get loaded into the flight… 2 of my checked in bags were a part of that. We were told to fill out “claim” sheet and submit that to the Etihad personnel.

It has now been a couple days and I haven’t received any information or even a PIR regarding the claim

I’m trying to get in touch with anyone else who was on the same flight and didn’t receive their baggage in Chicago. Has anyone gotten an update? A PIR? Or made any progress trying to get in contact with the Etihad baggage services?

Getting to O’Hare from Milwaukee area

EDIT- Thank you all so much for your suggestions! Obviously this is a ways out but the plan for now is to drive our own car and use the Preflight Parking ramp, adjusting if necessary based on weather.

Hello all, I have a bit of dilemma and I’m just looking to crowdsource some possible solutions. We are going to be flying out of O’Hare on an international trip right after Christmas. The flight leaves at 6:30am and then on the way back we land at 10:30pm. We’ll be coming from the Milwaukee area to the airport. There is a shuttle that runs between the MKE suburbs and O’Hare multiple times a day, but the earliest bus doesn’t get to the airport until 5:45am and the latest bus leaves the airport around 8:30. We have a 2 year old and while he’s pretty laid back and good at traveling, I’m trying to come up with the solution that is most simple and economical if possible, but will ultimately make the decision primarily off of convenience lol. Here were some ideas and we could do any combo of these or if you have another suggestion lmk:

-Take the airport shuttle down the night before and stay at the on site Hilton, same thing on the way back just reversed - this is the one I’m leaning towards the most, cost would be about $600 total but being able to just walk right into and out of the terminal for these awful flight times sounds worth it

-Hire a private car to drive us both ways (any suggestions on reliable companies), looks like this would be about $600 as well, or about $300 each way

-Take train down the day before, uber or Lyft to hotel with shuttle - toddler would probably enjoy this, cost TBD. If you have a suggestion of an airport though please let me know!

-Drive ourselves and park in long term, this looks to be about $550 but I’m concerned about leaving the car in long term in the winter for 12 days and then driving back right away after 12 hours of travel plus it being bedtime sounds kinda miserable

-Beg our family in MKE to drive us 😂

Terminal 1 Security is a mess. Budget at least 30-45 min if you are going through standard Security - Aug 2026

Oh wow. I just experienced the worst security issues I have ever seen at the United Terminal 1 in ORD.

The big issue is that out of 3 security entrances, one has been given to TSA precheck, one has been sold by the airport administration to CLEAR, and one is left for the rest of us.

This results in 2 security entrances that are almost completely empty, and one that is spilling out into a line that extends in front of many check-in counters and snakes around, creating a line to even enter the first maze of security, which today was followed by a second line to walk with security dogs before a 3rd segment for ID check, and then a 4th area where there were maybe 4-5 machines for bag scanning? All told it took at least 30-45 minutes. I had forgotten the name of the one app that could have potentially warned me about this ridiculous situation. No TSA person was able to give me an estimate of how long the process would take as I entered this morass of inefficiency…

This sounds bad, but when I went through on my way to Europe 2 weeks ago, there were literally only 2 scanning machines available, resulting in 15-30 minutes wait for what seemed like no reason. The rest of the machines just sat there idle. TSA staff at the CLEAR security entrance were no doubt twiddling their thumbs as their machines lay idle, wasting power and resources. So dumb.

I am used to SFO, where they simply have fast lanes at each security entrance for TSA precheck and Clear, which allows for flexible and far more efficient utilization of the limited resources of TSA agents and machines.

I flew out of this terminal many times a few years ago, and I don’t recall this issue. If the problem is TSA staffing, maybe they need to reconsider dedicating 2 out of 3 security entrances to those who can pay for the luxury.

This all begs the question: why? How much are they being paid by CLEAR and how much $ is TSA precheck making? The only rational reason for this inefficiency and ridiculous system is complete incompetence and ineptitude, profit, or both. I have never experienced anything like it at any other US airport.

Terminal 3 non-precheck wait time at 5am?

Sorry for the repetitive question but I couldn’t find anything specific to terminal 3 in this sub. I’m a spoiled crew member traveling with my non-crew significant other and need to know how early we should arrive for a 6:30am departure tomorrow at ORD terminal 3. How bad have the non-precheck lines been? I’ve seen them out the door multiple times but can’t remember the times nor do I know how long it takes.

Thank you in advance!

Flying back to the us to O’Hare soon from Canada im a dual citizen

As many might know weed is legal here in Canada but I’m not old enough to buy in the US. I bought 1g cart for the week but I want to get another to bring back. I’m not worried about getting stopped by Canadian tsa because it’s legal to fly with weed there under 30g. But if I put it in my carry on would I be caught in ohare as an arrival by a drug dog or am I good.
