Moving to Cali

Hi! I’m moving to a California with my partner in January and we’re browsing real estate. Oceanside looks like a good spot to me, but he’s convinced I wouldn’t like the environment. What can natives tell me about the culture around here?

What about the city and county?

I’d really love your insights!

Free mini giveaway Oceanside!

Hello, I recently got a ridiculous one in the lifetime deal. Some guy was having a garage sale and giving away an absurd amount of minis for just $50, I’m talking 3000+ points for just $50. I personally run chaos 40K and that’s all I personally have interest in and there was only a few models I personally want to keep. Given the current times and cost of the hobby figured I can give away some of the models I have no use for, for free. These models are all assembled and off sprue/no box but are all in great condition, some are primed over. If you are interested in any of them plz reach out and I can try to give you a time/place to pick them up/pass them off!

14 8th edition Green plastic poxwalkers

10x AOS Chaos warriors unpainted

1 box contents of necron combat patrol, all primed silver except for the doom stalker, 1 scarab swarm missing

Terminator squad primed death guard green, teleporter un primed

Ideally id like to spread these out but if there isn’t much demand for them I can easily hand multiple of these sets off, just let me know!

What do you guys think about the gentrification with Oceanside?

Any natives here also hate the slow gentrification of Oceanside. It’s filled with so much history and now big corporations are pushing it out to make room for the big projects. Thoughts ?

Community vigil for shooting aftermath

Hi all, the Center for American- Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) are hosting an Interfaith Community Vigil. As you can imagine, there will be heavy police presence for safety. In seasons of immense grief, gathering in person can be a powerful tool to process tragedy. I hope to see y’all there.

Note: This flyer has been posted on CAIR San Diego’s instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/DYheNELlDYY

California King Snake

Had a visitor in the backyard today. Big California King Snake, about 4 ft long. Glad they are not venomous, my 2 yr old and small dog were playing in the backyard near it when I spotted it slithering along the fence line. Does anyone else see these frequently? Live in Rancho del Oro area up against a nature preserve.

best cat vet in the area ?

hey ! i live on the border of oside and vista and i have three cats. one of them has asthma and has been doing great for over two years since his last incident but he’s had two small attacks recently and i need to get him in.

i wanted to get some opinions on the vet clinics around here and make the call. i checked the thread history but the most recent ask was from over two years ago and was about dogs. distance really isn’t an issue but i’d like to stay local. i can’t take him to the most expensive vet around but it doesn’t have to be the cheapest either.

thanks for your help.

Mission Pacific Beach Hotel, Oceanside

Hello, I'm staying at MP Oceanside over Memorial Day weekend. All photos I've seen of the pool area make seating appear very limited. Does anyone have any experience with staying there or insights on the pool seating situation? Trying to decide if it's worth shelling out the ungodly amount for a cabana since it's sure to be a busy weekend. Tysm!

advice for newcomer (social)

hi! I just moved here from the east coast and i’m having a really hard time making a social circle here. I haven’t really had the money to go out and do things to make friends- moving across the country is expensive and my new job barely pays the bills lol. i’ve tried making friends with coworkers, but it seems that my coworkers aren’t looking for new friends. does anyone have any advice to make friends here without spending a ton of money?

for reference, i’m 21, can drive my car, and i know next to nothing about this area. I don’t know much about California tbh, other than politics lmao. I enjoy painting and crafting, i’m not very big into running/hiking, and i have little to no experience with going out places. I kinda became a hermit when i started college. i don’t wanna be a hermit anymore.

Miss Mochi is still looking 🖤

San Diego, CA, 4 year old female, spayed, 37lbs, *needs to have no children or other dogs in the home*, shots UTD

Mochi was left behind while her previous family moved out of state with their other dog. She was being left unspayed, injured, with a UTI, they contacted us two days before leaving (without disclosing her complete health records) and let us know the only other person interested seemed like a backyard breeder. We couldn’t leave her to be used like that, so we picked her up and got her spayed and a nares surgery and treated her UTI, and now for the first time in 4 years she can breathe normally. She is up to date on her shots. She is completely housebroken and knows sit, down and is working on stay. She’s also learning the ‘let’s go!’ Cue on walks and is learning to redirect instead of be reactive towards other dogs. There needs to be no children or other pets in her new home. She is very small for an English, about 37lbs, so closer to a frenchie. Size wise she looks really small, like a large rabbit or cat. She is a lap sitter, but the behaviorist we consulted with said not to allow her to do this as she is very insecure and needs to learn to self soothe. She needs to meet people outside in a neutral space, and would thrive in a home that can continue to give her boundaries and build up her confidence. She loves treats and food, is very playful like a puppy and loves her walks. She sleeps peacefully in her crate at night and enjoys tug o war games. She loves cuddles and will flop on her side for belly rubs. She turned 4 years old on March 8th of this year. She has no tail pocket and is pretty low maintenance for an English. She is non destructive and has no separation anxiety, but will steal the occasional shoe or piece of laundry to suckle on. Shes currently waiting on intake to a local rescue, after which you can apply to foster or adopt this little loaf. In the meantime if you’d like to apply her link is below, if a rescue does not take her in before we find a suitable family (we are taking are time and reviewing everyone to make sure they’re a safe and loving home) then the rehome fee will be donated to Grandma Betty’s Animal Rescue in Julian, CA

NOW OPEN - KEY & CLEAVER

Key & Cleaver is Now Open in Downtown Oceanside.
It looks like Oceanside has gotten another burger spot in town, and this one is replacing what used to be the Breakwater Brewing Company.

I asked the owners how is this possible if the Regal Plaza Ocean Place in the future?
They told me that the regal theater had its lease extended another two years, and that gives them enough time to move in and introduce their brand to the community.

Key & Cleaver is a specialized burger destination that focuses on the classic style of burgers.

Their menu is quite simple and straightforward with a selection of various burgers, their chicken sandwich, a veggie burger, chicken wings and their popular rosemary salted fries.

I tried their barbecue bacon cheeseburger, and it was really good. Had a great size and great flavor.

But their crispy chicken sandwich was insane!
I love that they brine their chicken thighs overnight and fry each one to-order. This process leaves the inside juicy and the outside super crispy.

In all honesty, this sandwich outshined my burger!
Couple this sandwich with their rosemary salted fries, and it was such a superb flavor experience!

I can also appreciate that they use grass-fed, pasture-raised, grass-finished beef sourced from a local farm.

Customers can also upgrade their bread to a gluten-free option and this can be for any burger.
Actually, all of their house-made sauces are gluten-free.

Their garden burger can also be prepared in any other style from the menu and makes a great vegan option.

They haven't prepped all their beer taps yet, so there's only about half of the 30+ available.

I'm sure that they'll do well as a "healthier" destination for burger lovers and their biggest CON would be the lack of available parking nearby; but that's a Downtown problem.
