I'm finishing up my Halloween cards ☺️

u/mission_cow_6742 and i had an absolutely lovely mini-meetup today and have some mail on the way to raoc folks! we visited the postal museum (and the postal museum gift shop of course), went to a pug cafe, and talked all things stationery. such a nice day!

DC area folks, I somehow never knew about the annual art & book fair at the State Department, but I found out yesterday and went for the first time today! It's also going on next weekend for half price. (I'm not affiliated, just sharing info.)

There is a "stamp room" that also has a postcard section, and postcards are 35 cents each unless otherwise priced (I only saw a few with individual prices). I'll post some of my haul here: vintage and newer postcards from all around the world, some fun ad cards, and a number of Christmas maxicards!

I'm not really a stamp person, so I didn't look through the stamps, but many people seemed to find stuff they liked.

If you plan to go, take note:

- There is security and you need an ID to enter.

- You have to check all bags, so don't do what I did and bring extra tote bags! I would suggest just bringing wallet, keys, phone.

- Prepare to wait. There is a line to get in, a line to get out of the stamp room (count your stamps/postcards while you are waiting) and then a line to pay. The line to pay is shorter if you bring cash!

I attended my first postcard show today, and had an AMAZING time! I have so much I want to say about it 😮‍💨

They had some info about upcoming shows, which I wanted to share for people in the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana area in case people were interested

The pumpkin flyer is for a show in the Chicago area, and is actually a postcard so I plan on making an offer for them 😆(I grabbed a few)

Anyways, I was the youngest person there, like by a decent amount, so it’d be awesome to show support and keep these events alive!

​I purchased a bunch of miniature sheets today. There was this beautifully shaped one, so I decided to buy several because why not! ​However, when I started using them at home, something felt a bit off about the design, yk the weird feeling you get when you see something AI generated. After searching online, I found out they are actually AI generated. My heart just dropped. They could have printed a child's scribble and I would have gladly bought it. I really dislike what is happening to the art and design. ​I didn't know where else to share this, but I needed to vent. Mods, feel free to remove this if it isn't allowed here. Thanks for reading and sorry for ruining your mood.
