This is probably asked a lot but what made you go into this field?
Why did everyone spend so much time dedicating their life to something they now don’t see themselves doing in the long run? Did it not turn out how you thought it would, or did you go into the first career path you thought was interesting?
With these types of jobs you kind of have to have a passion for what you do, so did your passion die after years of being an SLPA/SLP?
Also, what did you switch your career to, or what do you plan to switch it to?
thats the question from sped teacher
I am an international student here, graduating in December.
What are our work visa options? I know we have 1 year of OPT, but what happens after that?
I know that H1B also has a lottery so its not guaranteed. Any comment is appreciated! thanks :)
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m a speech therapist from Egypt, and I work mainly with children and children with special needs. I’m also interested in ABA and special education.
I’m here because I’d love to connect with speech therapists from different countries, learn about how you work, and exchange experiences and ideas.
I’d especially love to hear from SLPs working in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, or anywhere else! 🌍
What is speech therapy like in your country? And what do you enjoy most about your work? 😊
Hey everyone,
If you are tired of staring at a $100k+ balance for your Doctor of Physical Therapy degree while interest eats you alive, it is time to actually do something about it.
There is a real bill in Congress right now called the Student Loan Interest Elimination Act (S.4169 in the Senate / H.R.8045 in the House). It was introduced by Senator Peter Welch and Representative Joe Courtney to completely eliminate interest rates on federal student loans.
What the bill actually does:
While this does not decrease the baseline tuition cost of a DPT program, it drastically cuts the total amount we actually end up paying back. Personally, I would save over $40,000 if this passes. Think about how much you would save without interest compounding daily.
The bill is currently sitting in committee. It will die there if people do not care. Stop just complaining on this sub about low reimbursement rates versus high debt-to-income ratios and take five minutes to call or message your U.S. Senators and Representatives.
Tell them you are a constituent, a healthcare professional, and that you strongly urge them to support and co-sponsor S.4169 / H.R.8045.
Going into my eighth year as a special education SLP. As much as I love the kids, I find myself getting so frustrated with the public school system in general.
Wondering if anyone has experience transitioning into a related services supervisor or AAC consulting?
I’m wondering which degree avenue would be worth my time or any advice about what to do. It’s a long career ahead and I don’t see myself making it to 63 as part of the tier 6 retirement system in NY.
I'm interested in becoming a clinical solutions consultant for lingraphica. Has anyone ever worked for them before or in this position? If so what was your experience and can you do this job while also still treating?
Hi! I’m currently an SLPA working primarily in the school setting, with some previous private practice experience. While I really enjoyed the 1:1 aspect of private practice, the inconsistent pay and back to back sessions just weren’t a good fit for me.
After 3 years in the field, I’ve also realized that pursuing a masters and becoming an SLP may not be the right path. For me, the ROI doesn’t feel worth the additional schooling and investment. I’m looking for financial stability and opportunities to grow, not hustling for income through home health or settle for lower pay in the school system.
I genuinely love working with the pediatric population, and I’m especially interested in the clinical/research side of the field. I’d love to find a way to use my experience and degree in a different capacity while still having room for growth and better financial stability.
I’ve been applying to different roles and know the job market is ROUGH right now, but I’d really love to hear from other SLPs or SLPAs who have transitioned out of traditional clinical roles.
What did you transition into? Did you go back to school or leverage your existing experience? And have you been successful in finding something that offers better pay, stability, and growth?
I’m very much at the “I need out, but I don’t know where to go next” stage, so I’d appreciate any experiences, advice, or career paths you’re willing to share!
I am currently an SLP. I debating on pursing a clinical doctorate or changing my entire career. Any advice? Pros and cons of becoming a rad tech?
Hi everyone!
I’m in my early 30s and decided to make a career change into sleep technology. I come from a fast-paced management background, but I’ve wanted to work in healthcare for a long time. I’m currently taking the A-STEP program and I’m almost halfway through the modules. I’m also planning to get my BLS certification soon so I’ll be ready when I start applying. I’ve been searching on LinkedIn and Indeed for sleep tech positions around Wichita, Kansas, but I haven’t found many openings. Are sleep tech jobs usually posted under a different title? Should I be searching for something else, or is it better to contact sleep labs directly?
I’d love to get into a hospital or sleep lab as soon as possible so I can start training, gain experience, and continue learning.
Any advice for someone making this career transition would be greatly appreciated. Please be kind! I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to start this new chapter. Thank you!
Well actually a Bachelor’s program for Communication Disorders. Have you done this ? What was your experience? Im looking into this option. How long/short was your program? Can i ask for the name so I can do further research? Its time for me to upgrade credentials as aSLPA going on 9yrs. Looking to move and most states require a SLPA to have a bachelor’s degree. Thank you in advance.
