Frustration vs Sonos

Dear Sonos users and Sonos employees,

I’m the (very happy) owner of what I believe is a fairly substantial Sonos setup: an Arc Ultra, two Era 300s and two Sub Gen 4s. I genuinely enjoy the hardware and the overall Sonos ecosystem, which is probably why the current state of the app is so frustrating to me.

I’ve been following this group for a long time, and there is one question I keep coming back to:

Why does improving the Sonos app seem to be such a difficult and slow process?

I’m not talking about asking for dozens of completely new features. There are many relatively simple things that users have been asking for repeatedly — improvements to navigation, usability, responsiveness, organisation of settings and overall UX. These requests appear again and again in discussions, often with very similar feedback from completely different users.

What I find particularly interesting is that we are now seeing more and more third-party apps trying to improve the Sonos experience. Some of them manage to provide interfaces and workflows that many users find more intuitive than the official app.

That raises a genuine question for me: is there a technical reason why some of these improvements are difficult to implement in the official Sonos app, or is it primarily a question of priorities and development resources?

I realise that developing and maintaining an application used by millions of people is much more complicated than it may look from the outside. There are probably technical constraints, legacy decisions, compatibility issues and many other things that users simply don’t see.

But that’s exactly why I would love to hear a more detailed explanation from Sonos.
We live in a time when there is no shortage of talented software engineers and UX designers, and there are countless examples of excellent apps that demonstrate how much better a complicated product can feel when the interface is designed around the way people actually use it.

I don’t think most frustrated Sonos users are asking for something unreasonable. Many of us simply want the app to feel as polished as the hardware.
So, Sonos employees: what is actually making this so difficult? Is there a technical limitation, a product strategy decision, a lack of resources, or something else that users don’t understand?

And to everyone else: what is the one change to the Sonos app that would make the biggest difference to you?

I think that would be a much more interesting discussion than simply saying that the app is bad.

Thank you, and have a great weekend!

Disabled Trueplay from Sonos App - now what?

Hi. I unintentionally disabled trueplay on my system (arc + 2x OneSL FR & FL + 2x Era300 surrounds + sub Gen3) in the Sonos App.

Now even though I’m turning the trueplay toggle on in the sequencr app, the Sonos app says trueplay is disabled. Do I have to do the entire setup again?

Could you please guide me through the next steps? I just bought Era 100 SLs for the fronts and want to use Sonosequencr.

From what I understand after reading the sub, these are the steps I think I should do:

  1. Unbox the 2 speakers
  2. Add them to the official Sonos app as separate speakers
  3. Once added, pair them as stereo speakers
  4. Run Trueplay for all the speakers - Arc, Era 100SLs, Sub gen 2 and Era 300s
  5. Question - do I run Trueplay before plugging in the Era 100 SLs? Or after?
  6. Go back to the Sonos app, unpair everything and have them as standalone speakers
  7. Go to Sonosequencr app, do the initial app set up questions and then the app finds all the Sonos speakers on my Wifi network
  8. Click on Config and start adding the front Era 100 SLs and the Sub gen 2
  9. Question - do I add the Era 300s in the Sequencr app or do I go back to the Sonos app and add them as surrounds?
  10. Find the menu inside the Sequencr app where I can toggle on/off Trueplay
  11. Go to Apple TV and play the Dolby video.

Could you please let me know if I got this correct and if you could please answer my 2 questions, I would really appreciate it. I really want to watch Dune tonight.

Moving 300 to front and 100 to back

Hi,
Did anyone checked if they have 300 in the front and 100 as rare?
Does it sound better than traditional 300 as rare and 100 as fronts?
Please let me know your experience

Sonos front speaker queries?

Slowly building an upstairs landing. Setup is a Beam 2, sub mini and rear Era100s. It’s not a huge space. Tv only 55inch.

Looking to add fronts via Sonosequencer. 2 questions:

Would I be best to add 2 extra Era100s? Or move current 100s to front and upgrade the rears?

Also positioning? Inline with the beam 2 mounted? Or would it’s all work ok, if the base of the mounted speakers were inline with base of tv? Sorry if I’m overanalysing this all a bit too much!! But feedback always appreciated 👍

Sound only coming from soundbar and left and right fronts.

EDIT: The solution was unplugging everything, waiting 2 minutes, then plugging everything back in 🫠

My system is:
- Arc Ultra
- x2 Era 300 (surrounds)
- x2 Era 100 SL (fronts)
- Sub 4

I noticed recently that sound is only coming from the arc ultra and the era 100s, but it seems like it’s incorrectly attributing the sound which should be coming from the era 300’s to the 100’s. I have ungrouped and regrouped all the items in the SonoSequencr app but this didn’t help. I noticed the problem while watching Batman Begins (DTS Digital 5.1) when sound was literally only coming from the soundbar, and I have further tested it on the “Sound Test for Dolby Atmos” Apple TV app by native-it.com.

I’m at a loss and becoming frustrated with the system, can someone please help me troubleshoot? Is there a discord where I can discuss this?

Sonosequencer or Sonority? Anyone tried both?

Hey fellow cultists. I have an existing HT setup of Beam gen 2 - sub mini - 2x100s. And absolutely love it.

Of course as a member of the cult I have now grabbed a couple of 100sls...I couldn't help myself.

Anyhoo I'm an android user so I went down the Sonority App route to add them as fronts. Fortunately my missus is an iPhone user so I used that to Trueplay and setup with Sonority.

I feel less immersed in the sound though. The fronts add enormously but it definitely feels as though the overall sound is not as enveloping or "warm". Basically as if Trueplay is now non-existent.

Has anyone else used both and if so do you have a preference? I'm only concerned about the sound quality not the UI etc. Before I drive the missus mad by pinching her iPhone and waving it around in the air...yet again.

Tldr: As the title says. Which has the better audio quality. So far Sonority doesn't feel "Trueplayed".

What happens to 300s?

Long time Sonos user here and considering using a pair of Ones to test them as front left and right. I have an Arc, sub and the 300s as rear right now. I understand that the left and right drivers on the Arc will be disabled.

My question: will anything else be impacted? Any other drivers disabled or other changes?
