I’m competing in my first strongman event on July 18th. I’m competing in the novice heavyweight category at 19 yo, 260lbs, 6’2”. Events are
Viking press -225 for reps
Car deadlift - “a lot” quoted from iron podium page
Bologna hold - 45 held for time
Dinnie stone walk - a lot
Natural Stone medley - 170,210,248,274,306
The guy on the page said that he hates rep fests so expect that winners will have less than 10 reps.
My goals for this event are
3 reps on Viking press my last push press pr was 225 6 months ago.
3-6 reps on deadlift depending on weight. My last pr on deadlift was 445 3 years ago, but I did 405 for 8 last week.
Around 30 seconds for bologna hold
No idea for dinnie walk, I have no idea what the weight is and have pretty weak grip
My goal is the 300lb stone, but I may not even get the 270 lb stone. My best is a 240lb sand bag to shoulder and 250lb natural stone to chest.
My training is pretty bad right now, I don’t go to a gym and work 10 hours a day and 6 on Saturday. My current workout it is ohp or deadlift for 12-20 reps as hard as possible alternating each day. Then 5 or so reps of sandbag to chest with the 240lb sandbag.
My equipment is a barbell 500lbs of plates an adjustable sandbag and lots of natural stones all of this is done in my yard.
Any advice is appreciated especially on how to increase grip for the dinnie walk. Or how realistic my hopes are.
The event is the Waldo strongman show in Waldo ohio if anyone sees this and wants to join.
Not sure what it is in hand. Double dipped a few of these reps still huge mental and physical PR.
I wish my land raising was as easy as Farmers
Leggstein – A legendary tombstone-shaped lifting stone in Iceland’s Westfjords. Legend says it marks the grave of a farmer who lost his soul in a bargain with the devil. The challenge is to lift the stone and carry it around the grave one full revolution, helping free the farmers soul once 100 revolutions are made!
First day going over 300lbs per hand on farmers and also hadn't trained farmers in a very long time.
Hello I wanna know how do you get into strongman,I already go to the gym I’m just thinking of doing strongman as people have told me I’ve got the build for it
Only been training strongman for 10 weeks now. I have a comp coming in September, with the log being one of the events. I've found it to be my weakest of all the events I'll be competing in. This is 250lbs. Getting it overhead doesn't feel overly heavy, but unstable for sure. Any tips/advice/criticism are welcome.
After about a year of trying, I finally managed to conquer my 300lb Sandbag. Definitely a struggle and a lot to clean up. Progress is Progress no matter how small.
I'm returning to strongman training after an eight year hiatus and looking to rebuild my implement collection, specifically interested in a 12" log. Unfortunately, Alan Beninga (who used to make bombproof equipment) has left the industry. Who's making quality logs these days? For the sake of conversation, let's just say I'm not interested in Rogue, Titan, Bartos, or Slater's. Any suggestions?

My 7th time getting this super cool stone to chest.
Was pretty excited to get access to a 300# bag and this was my first try at it. I have a comp at the end of the month and for one of the events I want to try to shoulder a 300# bag 3 times in under a minute. I feel like I'm not quite there yet looking at this video, and I'm sure there are ways to improve my form that might help.
Now that I know there are quite a few strength athletes here who use steroids, I thought it could be interesting to hear: which stack made you the strongest you’ve ever been? 😀
Sorry to the admins if this goes against the group rules. I couldn’t find anything about it, but feel free to remove the post if needed.
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to transition into strongman training, and therefore, I'd like to hear your advice. I have been going to a standard gym for the last year. Since I mostly sit all day due to classes and exams, I wanted to build a foundation using gym machines first.
I discovered strongman about 3 months ago, and want to get into it. But unfortunately, where I live, there isn't a place where I can train, let alone a strongman gym. While I looked into online programs, they weren't of much help. That's why I decided to make this post.
I want to be very clear: I'm not looking for medical advice. I'm looking for advice on what kind of gyms I should look for and what type of training (I couldn't find an online program that suited my time as an engineering freshman) I should do.
Thank you for reading my post, and all of your advice is appreciated.
