They definitely could've used a better release date for the movie

Idk who had that idea, but why? Why would they release a movie about a character like supergirl, next to the MINIONS AND TOY STORY??? WHY???

They really thought releasing this movie next to 2 of the biggest franchises ever was a good idea? Seriously?

Most people only go like once or twice per month to the cinema, and most people chose to watch those giant movies

Im 100% certain that if they released this movie in almost any other month it would've made more money

Thats like releasing a game in the same week as gta 6

Supergirl is not a character like superman/batman/ spider man that can release a movie anytime and make bank

It was not a good idea to release the movie this month

It was obvious that most people would prefer to go watch toy story or the minions

Me reading the whole online discourse around Supergirl:

I guess I felt like spreading the positivity I feel about the movie in a post rather than only through comments!

Saw it, loved it (no spoilers)

Read the book, eh, it was fine. Saw the movie, loved it!

P.S. I’m a Snyderbro who also loved Superman (2025) and am looking forward to more DCU.

For those who are unable to grasp Kara's "morality". Amos says it well.

Amos. From The Expanse. Pretty simple.

What makes Supergirl stand out from others? What makes her unique unto herself?

What makes Supergirl different from other heroes, but most especially different from her cousin?

The limit of my experience with the character; I've only read Woman of Tomorrow (twice before the film release) and recently picked up the Silver Age Omnibus Vol 1. I watched The CW show with Melissa Benoist up to the last season, both seasons of Superhero Girls, the Flash film with Sasha Calle, and of course Milly's latest version.

Do people think WoT is the peak GOAT definitive version of Kara? I didn't see how she helped define and distinguish herself from Clark in this story. I didnt think Krem was a very exciting villain for SG, he's more of Ruthyes villain/nemesis than hers especially since Krypto isnt really in the same amount of danger in the comic version. And being that the whole thing is narrated by Ruthye it seems more like her story, in which Supergirl plays a significant part in Her quest.

Maybe someone can say why this story is important or defining for the character, in comparison to her comic stories that came before? Is this story really sacrosanct to SG fans?

I dont understand the critique...

*'In the comic Krem is generic and mundane (dude with a moustache, no powers) because he's supposed to symbolize the generic mundane threat within the indiscriminate harshness of space.'

AND

'Why did they change Krems appearance to be more like some generic forgettable DCU version of taser face?'

They literally contradict eachother, Is he supposed to mundane and generic in design or...?

*'Krypto not being in immediate danger and motivating Kara to seek Krems antidote shows she chooses to help Ruthye of her own accord'

And, changing it to be a real threat and real goal for Kara solidifies her personal motivation and stakes in it, shes emotionally invested in saving her dog, AND comes to help Ruthye and all the trafficked girls in the process. I relate more to her personal stakes, than the idea shes so benevolent she has no personal interest except to help Ruthye. That was the catalyst for further caring, why not both? Shes not perfect or an ideal, shes more real, messy and chaotic. Maybe that makes her more human than even Clark.

*'she kills Krem instead of sending him to the phantom zone for 300 years'

The phantom zone isnt established, not an option. Makes sense they dont want the DCU to jump ahead 300 years because of this one story.

Once you accept that its not Woman of Tommorrow it seems easier to enjoy it on its own. I thought her killing this version of Krem, in this version of the story made more sense and was saying Supergirl will go all the way to avenge and protect those who cannot protect themselves. No one else seemed eager to stop the intergalactic human traffickers. I think its Bizarre that people want her to just let him and the Brigands go to continue their work in order to maintain the integrity of a non killing Supergirl ideal. I thought this was important precisely because most heroes dont kill etc.

I do understand wanting more exciting visuals as in the comic art, but i can understand the angle of making it a dirty dusty hostile wild west/mad max type of experience as well, what with the indiscrminate uninviting harshness of space.

I do understand wanting Kara and Ruthye to establish a stronger relationship through their travels so it seems more natural and organic for her to take Ruthyes wuest personally and for her to grow

I think the goal of the movie should have been to distinguish her enough from Clark to make her her own person. Maybe this should be the goal overall, rather than homogenizethe the two. Look at Jor El and Zor El's completely different attitudes about their offspring in the DCU, and they're siblings. Cousins are even further apart.

I just thought the movie was ok, not any extreme.

The most unique version of Supergirl that has stood out to me is the one from the Superhero Girls animated show, shes punk rock, hostile and aggressive, loud and in your face, tough, strong a little wild and chaotic but ultimately good. It seemed like they tried in some way to tap into that a little bit, maybe should have leaned into it more.

Do fans want something that aligns her more closely with Clarks behavior and values, or something that makes her more her own?

My problem with the Supergirl movie

If you try to just enjoy the movie and overlook the small plot devices (like Ruthye being able to know where Supergirl is all the time for some reason), it would be a pretty good movie. The movie is fun and I like Supergirl’s character, but one problem I have with the movie is that Supergirl kills Krem in the final act; the movie keeps telling us that Supergirl doesn’t want Ruthye to kill Krem because it is morally incorrect and she would go on to live with the lifelong grief. And Supergirl just killed Krem? I get that most iterations of Supergirl isn’t raised on Earth and she doesn’t have the same morals as Superman, so she has no problem with killing, but they literally led us to believe that Supergirl thinks killing doesn’t fix anything and that she’s this wise older sister-like for Ruthye. So am I wrong? What do you guys think about the movie?

Watching this video and reading the comments made me realize how many people go out of their way to find the smallest possible reason to hate a movie.

Like, a guy literally said he wasn't going to watch the movie because in a scene krypto pissed in a journal talking about superman 😐 and the guy went on a rent saying it was offensive and showing that james gunn hates the character and etc. And people were AGREEING with him

Honestly, just go read the comments. Its just sad at this point

People are hating the movie for the TINIEST things

And there's HUNDREDS of videos making the movie seem like the worst thing ever and that it killed their families infront of them or something

It just feels like people are hating the movie because its a trend or something

And honestly, i feel like 80% of those people didn't even actually see the movie

Just watched the movie, honestly i really liked it and i dont get the hate

Im writing this while on the toilet 1 hour after watching it and honestly? I really liked the movie

The action scenes were great. The story was ok and the cgi was great. The music is between ok and good to me, couldv'e been better in my opinion

The villain was ok, it served it purpose but thats it

It was great watching it, i had a fun time

Jason was great as lobo, wish he had more screen time

And LOVED all superman appearences, david is GREAT as superman and is my favorite superman

And i dont get the hate this movie is getting. And judging by the ticket sales, most people hating the movie didn't even actually watched it. So they are just hating because of the trend, wich is sad, cause the movie is good.

And plenty of people are talking about milly appearance, i think shes really pretty.

Anyway, it was fun and i had a great time. I'll name my future dog krypto. I give it a 7/10

WoT comic unavailable in my comic stores

Bummed I was too late to get my hands on Woman of Tomorrow (I'm a new comic fan), so I got Summer of Supergirl instead.

And I love it!

I couldn't find anymore Supergirl comics and I'm such a newbie that I have absolutely no idea what I should get next. I got some recommendations in the DC Comic subreddit but none of those are available in the local comic book stores I went to.

Does anyone know if this is an ongoing series or a limited edition?
