Hypothetical grade change situation

Lets say an international student had an offer from Trinity college dublin for Medicine, the grade requiremant was AAA. In their CIE a levels, they got AAB, and when they got the online certificate that they had to give to the university, they edited the ABB to AAA with no visible discrepencies and ended up getting in, now that they have been in the uni, what are the chances of them being caught and how were they able to byspass the security, does TCD not go into the CIE portal to verify the student submitted grades.

Language electives

Hi everyone,

I applied to several undergraduate programs in Ireland and I already received two offers. The programs are at Trinity, Maynooth, DCU, and they all include languages in some form, for example:
- Business + Language
- Middle Eastern and European Languages and Cultures
- Linguistics + Language

If my main language is German (or German + Arabic, depending on the program), would I still be able to take electives/modules in another language, for example Spanish?
Or are you usually limited to only the language(s) that are part of your degree program?

I’d really appreciate hearing from current students or graduates from these universities. Thanks!

BESS or Econ/CS

Hi, which undergraduate course should I choose? I want to pursue a career in finance. BESS seems more suitable for an entry into investment banking while Econ/CS seems more suitable for an entry into trading. Nearly every CS student seems to want tech internships, is this the wrong course for me? I’ve never coded befit but I want to learn how to code. My priority however is breaking into IB/Trading. Thanks for any advice.

Book prize in SCSS

I was just looking through my exam results there and I saw the note "Book Prize" on my transcript. Looked it up and found out that you get a book voucher in the post from the academic registry if you get a first class honours on average and are in the school of computer science and statistics (scss). Was just wondering if anyone knows the value of the book voucher? Or the value of this type of prize generally? Am a junior fresh student if that's relevant.

Overall Grade round-up

I received my final year results and I am sitting around 58.5% overall. I have one more exam to sit during the reassessment period which is only 5 credits worth so I can’t see it bumping me up above 60%.

I am wondering if there is a chance they will award me a 2:1 instead of a 2:2 as I am so close to the cusp? Or should I just settle for the 2:2?

Thanks!

Film Study’s

About to sit the Leaving Cert and I’m trying to decide what courses from my CAO. I’m looking at film in trinity and to do it as a single honors degree. I’ve read up on it and watched the video on YouTube, but the video seems to be a bit older and dose not match up fully with what’s said currently on Trinity’s website.

Is there anyone currently in the course and what do you think of it ? And is it what you were expecting?

Thanks

Trinity College Dublin vs DCU for postgraduate study?

Hi everyone, I’m an EU student choosing between two offers:

Trinity College Dublin — International Peace Studies
DCU — International Security and Conflict Studies

I’m interested in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, WPS, human rights, international organisations and security policy.

How are Trinity and DCU perceived in Ireland/internationally?
Does Trinity’s reputation make a big difference for jobs?
Is DCU more practical and employability-focused?
Which would you choose for this field? Because I feel like although trinity is more well perceived internationally but DCU is more practical.

Any honest advice from students/alumni would be really appreciated.

Missed CAO deadline as a German Student – any options left?

Hey everyone !

This isn't necessarily relevant to only TCD as I'd be open to pretty much any bigger irish university but I haven't been able to post this anywhere so I hope you don't mind me asking in this sub.

I know this question has probably been asked a bunch but I'm German and even after a considerable amount of research I'm a bit at a loss here.

Background information: I graduated last year with the highest grade (so I think I should have as many points as possible in that CAO thing) and I've been studying in Germany but am quite unhappy with my major and generally the university system down here and have been planning on switching to a different major.

I know that missing a deadline like that is really silly but the issue here is that I wasn't even aware it is possible to go to Irish Universities at affordable prices before 1 week after the first of may deadline! In fact I had never even considered Irish universities before that at all! :c

And reading about it I have really been thinking that this would've been such a great opportunity so it's quite disheartening to have missed out on it and spending on more year doing nothing is probably not going to be an option sadly.

So long story short: I messed up – is there any way I can still get into a course through for example CAO's "Available Place Course List 2026" or should I just give up? I also desperately rang up a bunch of admissions offices but as expected no luck there. I'm willing to start with any course if it has to be and just transfer later. I heard the first year is a bit more general anyhow? (Not sure about this one...)

Sorry for the long rant!

Thank you for your hearing me out and, in advance, for your replies!

Do you regret doing the course you are doing now?

What would tell to your younger self making the CAO?

SURVEY PARTICIPANTS NEEDED

Hey guys!! I'm still recruiting participants for my psychology study! I'll be closing the survey at the end of the week so need all the help I can get. You just need to be aged 18-29 and living in Ireland. It will only take 5-10 minutes :)

Joint honours, double language ?

Has anyone done/is doing the joint honours with two languages ?

Would it be a stupid idea to put that down on my cao and then if possible take business electives and more subjects toward the end of the degree ?

Sorry if this is a silly question

Joint honours ?

Hi all,

Bit confused about how Joint Honours works in Trinity and hoping someone can explain it simply.

For example, say French is around 358 points on its own, but another subject like Economics or Linguistics is much higher. If you want to do them together in Joint Honours, do you need the points for the higher subject, or is there a separate points requirement for the combination itself?

Also, when applying, are you applying for the actual combination specifically or just general Arts and choosing later?

Thanks.

Chances through QQI Applicantions

Good morning everyone,

The QQI course I did was a direct prerequisite to the level 8 course that I want but I'm confused as to how the QQI selection process works. Is it the academic registry department, the staff on that course or the CAO who selects applicants?

I recently found out I didn't get in through the mature students route. So this is extremely important for me. I'm confident that I'll get 95% or higher in all core modules in my QQI and 93% is the lowest marks I'll get (work experience but that's not a core module).

I understand that their systems won't see these percentages, as they will only see "distinctions" across the board. But I also think that my performance could potentially be a bit of an outlier. Should I email them about it, once I get my results? Or is that just a very automated system?

I appreciate anyone that can help me out with this ❤️

do i switch courses??

i need some advice. i am a chemical sciences student that takes physics as an option module. i chose chemistry as a safe choice, even though i wanted to get into nuclear engineering/physics. i didn’t have access to a teacher for leaving cert physics or applied maths, so i couldn’t do those subjects in school. my maths teachers were also non-existent, which affected my confidence, even if i caught up everyone in trinity. this made me put physical sciences as second on my CAO and chemical sciences as first (as a safe choice).

however, i really hate organic chemistry and i get nightmares thinking about doing it again later on in my degree (I’m only in first year). i like other aspects of chemistry but i don’t think i’d like to specialise in any chemistry field - not even radiochemistry or nuclear chemistry. i am more interested in anything to do with electromagnetic waves, radioactivity, radiation and nuclear engineering (i dont really have any other interests). i’ve been dreaming of working in a nuclear power plant since i was 13 and i always knew i would get a nuclear physics/engineering masters (or maybe even phd) abroad and work in that country later in life.

i think i’d rather do physics but this decision is irreversible once i make it, and i am really unsure on what to do. i also feel like i might not be smart enough for this kind of challenge. chemistry is slightly easier sometimes, but learning things off all the time is really starting to do my head in and i prefer studying for physics exams, no matter how scared i am. my tutor didn’t give me any helpful advice, and a lecturer (that was also originally a chemistry student that switched to physics) brushed me off.

nanoscience as a specialisation would be the safe choice for 3rd and 4th year, but i already made a safe choice and it is making me quite confused and stressed.

i have choice, since i can get into nuclear with a degree in chemistry, physics or nanoscience. i don’t think i’d like a nanoscience specialisation to be honest; it focuses more on materials and i HATED material physics as a class this semester. i’m thinking more and more of switching to physical sciences and then choosing the pure physics moderatorship for 3rd and 4th year.

i’ll get a masters anyways so it might not matter too much, but i still don’t know if i want to tolerate 3rd and 4th year chemistry - which could also potentially make it harder for me to get the master i want.

any advice, pretty please? :(
