Has anyone changed their Ring doorbell for a Tapo one?
Just some questions before I bite the bullet. Hoping to change my Ring doorbell for Tapo. Has anyone done the same? Was it hard? Were the holes needed in the wall the same?

Hello all,
Is Tapo down for anyone else? All my cameras are offline?
Tapo c120 . As you can see a fox tagged as person 🙄
This has never appeared before and nothing has changed with the placement of the camera, and no new items are in the yard that could cause a reflection.
I have no idea what version it is, I’ve tried connecting to both but it doesn’t work, on the first one it’s saying it’s looking for my device but doesn’t connect to anything. On the second one it says that the connection didn’t work. Idk what else to do🥲
I’m planning to replace most of my home lighting and I’d really appreciate advice from people with long-term experience using Matter smart bulbs.
Current setup:
I’m intentionally excluding Philips Hue because the cost becomes very hard to justify where I live.
Right now I’m mainly comparing:
Things I care about:
I discovered my current bulbs are generic ones 1055lm 6500K 12W, so the Tapo L535E would basically match my current brightness while using less power.
However, the Linkind 1600lm RGBTW bulbs look VERY tempting because of:
At the same time, I keep seeing mixed opinions about long-term software/ecosystem maturity compared to TP-Link/Tapo.
One thing I’m struggling with:
Should I keep using Matter over Wi-Fi for bulbs since my network is already good, or should I start investing into Thread/Zigbee for lighting before I scale further?
Some people say Wi-Fi Matter is perfectly fine unless you have huge deployments, while others regret putting dozens/hundreds of Wi-Fi devices on their routers.
Also:
Is mixing bulb brands in connected spaces (living room + dining room + hallways) visually annoying in real life? I’m worried different whites/tints/dimming curves will look inconsistent.
Would love to hear real-world experiences from people running these bulbs long term, especially with Home Assistant.
One thing I’m also trying to understand better:
Linkind explicitly advertises true RGBTW architecture, while Tapo mostly markets the L535E as RGBW + tunable white.
Does anyone know if the Tapo bulbs actually use dedicated warm + cool white channels internally, or are they partially mixing white through RGB?
In real-world usage, does this actually affect:
…or is it mostly marketing/spec-sheet differences?
Kinda freaking out right now. Was just watching tv and heard a massive bang, dog jumped out of his skin. Had absolutely no idea what it was but the burnt electric smell was so potent that I checked all the plugs.
The plug to our tapo indoor pan tilt security camera has exploded. It was plugged in directly into our plug socket and the socket switch was turned on (we are in the UK). The plug was split in half when i found it. We haven’t unplugged or turned the pocket switch off in a while as it is set up in place for us to monitor our dog when needed.
Is this a tapo fault or could this be a problem with our plug socket? Will reach out to them now but wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
So relieved nothing worse happened or whilst we were asleep.
Silly question, so if I buy a solar wireless camera, do I still need to charge the camera via the wall? Or does it stay hooked up outside at all times and it doesn't need to be taken down?
Thanks
Let's see if I can explain my situation clearly. I would like to install a LED strip behind the zig-zag lateral structure of the stairs shown in the picture below, but inspite of what the first image (taken from the TP-Link website) may seem to suggest, I'm not sure whether the strip can be actually bent sideways (that is, in a snake-like fashion) so that it remains completely hidden since the strip cannot be attached completely straight. In other words, if the strip can actually be bent sideways to follow the stairs shape, what would the maximum bending angle be?
Instead of paying excessive amounts for a 'bespoke noname camera' you get in a bundle deal with a bird nest, would any of the standard 3k or 4k solar powered Tapo cameras be able to do the same or better please? A critical success factor will of course be if the Tapo camera can indeed focus on something just a few inches away inside the nest box.
Don't know if somebody here in the group please could answer to that or maybe make a quick test on how close up one of their Tapo solar powered cameras can focus? Not any specs typically listed anywhere, as for security functions, its often more a question about how far awy a distance it can still capture the images well. :o)
If able to use a std security camera kit like those from Tapo would bring many benefits versus those you can get via special wildlife/nature product sellers. Where you are often blocked to staying with their special apps and recording options. While if using Tapo, the live feed and recordings could be forwarded to any device you want on your home network. 👍
PS: Some of the birdbox nest kits you can buy online look to sell them with something that looks very much like the Arlo Ultra2 compact cameras, though they have no name/labels on them. Reason why I wondered if maybe the Tapo could be set up for something like this, or maybe the lens specs needs to be really special for this to work at all?
Must when I think I've captured whatever it is that's living under my house there is no recording corresponding to the notification at 18:50
Any ideas as to why that might happen and how to fix?
I'm recording to SD card.
I’ve had a Tapo D210 for a little over a month and honestly I’m extremely disappointed with it.
When someone rings the doorbell, there’s a huge lag and sometimes I have to wait 30 to 40 seconds before the video appears. Even when I reply through my phone’s microphone, my voice reaches the doorbell with a very noticeable delay.
Also, why is the microphone muted by default when answering from the phone? I mean, I already answered the call, just let me talk without requiring an extra action.
On top of that, motion detection worked for the first few days, then notifications completely stopped even though the feature is still enabled in the settings.
Overall, I had read good reviews, so this has been very disappointing. Do your units have the same issues too, or could mine actually be defective?
I found this new entry to the TAPO catalogue:
https://www.tp-link.com/en/home-networking/smart-bulb/tapo-l901-6/
It's specifically offered for stair lighting automation, and I see that the kit's two motion sensors are slightly different from the regular T100 motion sensors.
But, what's the main difference in practical terms compared to a similar set made with a regular light strip and two T100 sensors?
And, should one of the kit's two motion sensors break, will it be possible to buy a replacement separately?
Samsung dex is a great way to watch it on Samsung TVs that are compatible with it it is way better than any other way to view it on a TV that I have found except for maybe Blue stacks emulator on PC can't believe I didn't think of this earlier.
When 24/7 capture is enabled on the C675D or C460 (or I’m assuming any battery camera) with an interval of 60 seconds, video is recorded with any motion event (motion detection), not just the person, pet, or vehicle detection types I have enabled. Is this a feature or a bug? I would prefer the cameras just take snapshots at 60 second intervals, and only record video when one of the motion types that is actually enabled is detected. This makes the 24/7 feature in battery cameras much less useful. It consumes a considerable amount of battery recording events that I don’t want. Unfortunately I just end up turning it off.
Tapo cameras aren't available in India from early 2026. The pages from Amazon were showing Currently Unavailable and now they are just gone.
Until yesterday I saw a notification from Amazon that an item from my wishlist is back in stock. It was C201, as I opened that notification there was nothing, a blank page.
Anybody knows anything?
Hello there,
I was wondering if anyone could provide information about the camera in the title to save the recordings to a "NAS" (more likely a hard drive over USB on my Router).
Or is it limited to the sd-card and cloud storage?
I personally would prefer the NAS solution to keep it local.
Kind regards
The person who is new to this topic
I have a Tapo d20 doorbell (which is apparently identical to the d205). I've tried the sticky tape, it is apparently a no--go with my siding. I see a lot of siding mounting blocks available, but none specifically for this model. I also cannot fing dimensions for the doorbell backing plate.
Can anyone recommend specific products for mounting? If it matters, I have standard 4" siding.
Thanks - Tw
