From TIG CCP to Circuit Makati, keri ba?

hello! sa mga naka-try na mag-travel from Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez to Circuit Makati para manood ng show, keri ba siya? or malilate ako ng bongga? 😆

i'll be watching TP's Sayaw ng mga Ilaw on Sept 19 at 3pm sa TIG and then balak ko sana bumili ng ticket for Scene Change's staged reading of Villa sa Circuit at 7:30pm.

never did something like this before (laging same venue lang if nagtu-2 shows in one day ako 😅) kaya medyo nag-aalangan ako haha

Planning to become a showbuyer soon! 😊

GMG 2027 Season Prediction/Wishlist

Since GMG’s 2026 season has been revealed na, although it’s a bit too early pa, what do you think will be or should be part of GMG’s 2027 season? I’m focusing on GMG cause they’re usually the one that sends international tours to our shore.

To give a bit of an idea, here are some of the shows currently touring (or has news of touring) in Asia and Australia:
- The Phantom of the Opera: scheduled to run in Shanghai (with Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom!!!)
- Cats: scheduled to stop in Hong Kong and Singapore
- Matilda the Musical: currently touring China
- Chicago: currently touring Japan and then the UAE
- Anastasia: currently in Australia; no news of an Asia transfer
- The Lion King: also in Australia with no news of an Asia transfer
- Heathers the Musical: same case as Anastasia and The Lion King
- Moulin Rouge! The Musical: coming to Singapore and Bangkok
- MJ the Musical: launching an Asia tour

Also focused more on musicals because these are more likely to tour compared with straight plays.

Alternatively, if GMG were to do a “TGA style” production like when they did “Come From Away”, what show would you want that to be? Although this seems less likely.

——

Me personally, I would love to see POTO with Ramin Karimloo as Phantom. I’ve been a fan of him for a long time, specially his Phantom so it’d be a dream to see that. And then imagine if we also get Joanna Ampil as Carlotta.
Realistically though, I hope we get Cats and Moulin Rouge.

Death Becomes Her Musical

A random thought emerged in me and I was thinking if they ever do a death becomes her musical here I would want to see Ana Abad Santos casted as Madeline, Jenny Jamora as Helen, and Menchu Yulo as Viola. Could also work the other way around for Madeline and Helen.

What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear who you would cast!

Ano mga current shows now until September or October na worth it panoorin?

Gusto ko sana yung Annie Batumbakal, pero ayaw ilabas ng producers cast schedule kasi mas gusto ko yung ibang casts 😆 Looking for other shows nalang na pwede panoorin.

Mga Binago ng Araw

Highly highly recommend catching Mga Binago ng Araw before they close this weekend. Deserve nila for more people to catch the show but most importantly, deserve NIYO rin mapanood yung kwentong sinulat ni Guelan Varela-Luarca (fresh from his wins at Cinemalaya 2026!!!)

It’ll make you laugh, possibly cry, and of course, remember things and people you may have forgotten about — a good reminder that the people who we cross paths and share memories with are a part of who we are and our story.

Kung binago ka na rin ng araw (which I like to think everyone has naman at a certain point), then this show is for you!

Karaoke places in Metro Manila with musical theatre/Disney songs?

Hi! Does anyone know a good karaoke place in Metro Manila that has a great selection of songs from musicals/Disney?

Most karaoke places we’ve tried have very few musical/Disney songs, and when they do have some, they’re usually the ugly karaoke versions and wrong lyrics 😭

My friends and I usually just use YouTube at home (Curtain Up and Clark on Stage HAHA), but we’re starting to annoy our neighbors so we also want to go out, get a private room, and have food and drinks served while we sing scream.

Preferably QC (maybe Timog/Tomas Morato) but also open to anywhere around Makati, BGC, Ortigas as long as the song selection is good! 🎭🎤

What is the point of Staged Readings?

Disclaimer agad, I do NOT intend anything negative. I am genuinely curious po. Can someone please educate me?

I really really loved People Places and Things that's why I'm curious kung bakit hindi nalang sya ginawang full-on play, specially since existing material naman na sya. I get if it's like 'testing the waters' muna for new materials eh which is yun din yung lumabas na reason nung nag google ako (yes po nag-google muna ako 😭)

Thoughts on People, Places, and Things (plus trivia about the original production)

I watched the Aug 15 (7:30 pm) show and wanted to share my thoughts with this community. For those who read to the end, I included a tiny trivia about Emma’s name from the 2024 NT Live performance :)

I’ve been a huge fan of this play ever since I watched the full recorded production on NT Live last year (Denise Gough is BEAST on stage), so when Sandbox announced a stage reading, I knew I’d be first in line.

The play itself works brilliantly as a staged reading because it’s akin to a drawing room play; no elaborate sets or costumes are necessary. Since the play is so dialogue-heavy, it can drag in the hands of less skilled performers. I followed this production closely as the cast list was announced one by one, and I was not surprised to see theater titans attached. After all, casting would make or break this play.

As for Emma, I could only speak for Bela, as I was unable to watch Gabby’s performance. I commend her for holding her own with theater veterans and shining during the group therapy scenes, but I feel that she was unable to “let go” completely in performance. Granted, this could just be growing pains since it’s her first-ever production. Emma, as a character, requires duality: there is a clear distinction between the reckless, arrogant Emma in rehab and the vulnerable, sober Emma in the latter half. Suffice to say, I only saw Bela “acting” as Emma and not fully embodying the character.

On to the other cast:

As for Jake, I was pleasantly surprised by his performance. I have never seen him on stage before, but I loved his interpretation of Mark. He acted so well in navigating through Mark’s own sobriety and dealing with Emma in the midst of his own life tragedies.

Another one I need to compliment is REB ATEDERO! My god, I knew he could act, as I’ve seen him in other productions before, and his short but meaningful performance as T broke my heart. I think the audience at that time would have agreed, as I heard gasps from audience members during his monologue.

Audie is another great actor; he brought Paul’s manic energy to life on stage and provided much-needed laughs after all those heavy scenes. I noticed that he barely looked at his script during the performance! Truly a consummate performer!

Of course, I need to commend the first lady of Philippine theater. After Emma, the trickiest role to cast is the therapist/Lydia/mom role, so when Menchu was cast, I knew the role was in good hands. She easily shifted from the stoic therapist to the caring Lydia to the exhausted mother with such ease that sometimes I forget it’s the same person acting on stage. One scene I was looking forward to the most in the play was the final confrontation between Emma and her mom, and Menchu nailed it! Her acting was on par with (if not better than) Sinéad Cusack in the NT Live version.

All in all, I was so glad Sandbox was able to mount this show, even if only for a limited time, and perhaps my only regret is not seeing Gabby’s interpretation of Emma (I’ve heard good things about her performance). I do hope there will be a rerun in the future, and I will definitely watch it again!

If you’ve read this far, thank you, and here’s the trivia I promised: In the 2024 NT Live production, Emma’s real name is Rachel and not Lucy :)

Bonus trivia: Denise Gough revealed her life story is a lot like Emma's and she's been sober for years now. Perhaps that 's the main reason her performance felt so real during her run.

Who else watched the show? I want to know your thoughts too.

REVIEW: The excellent ‘Mga Binago ng Araw’ finds healing in our memories of youth

tfm wasn't lying with this review—Mga Binago ng Araw is easily one of the most honest and moving local plays this year.

i have a lot of friends in this production, and seeing the sheer amount of heart, honesty, and detail they poured into this show makes me so proud. they truly deserve a sold-out run. i really hope more people catch wind of it before it closes

La Bayadere

This year I told myself mag-e-explore ako sa art scene. First time ko manood ng ballet show (ng Ballet Manila). I was in awe. Grabe ang energy at stage presence nila. Ang perfect!!

Favorite ko si Miss Abigail Oliveiro (who played as Gamzatti). Sobrang galing and ang graceful.

I just wish meron silang physical souvenir programs.

Looking forward sa Nutcracker on December!

PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS

Watched People, Places and Things at Proscenium Theater at Rockwell today, with Bella Padilla as the lead. This was actually my first time watching a stage reading. Aside from the actors having scripts in their hands, it honestly still felt like a normal theater play to me.

Bella Padilla reminded me a lot of her role as Stella in 100 Tula Para Kay Stella, a character who is kind of on the edge, problematic, complicated, and carrying a lot of trauma. She was amazing in this role and embodied the character really well. I could still feel her TV and film acting nuances, and she has a different approach compared to the seasoned theater actors in the cast, but overall, she did really well and held her own.

I was also amazed by Jake Cuenca. This was my first time seeing him on stage, and I have to say, he is REALLY handsome in person. 😂 But beyond that, you really can’t deny his talent and acting chops. He brought so much to his role, and I was genuinely impressed.

The rest of the cast did incredibly well too, especially Menchu and Reb. The story itself was amazing, and I honestly wasn’t expecting it because I went in completely clueless about the plot. It’s a heavy piece and there were definitely moments that felt triggering, but it was still such a compelling and enjoyable watch.

There were a couple of minor dialogue mishaps and some microphone issues, but they were very minimal and didn’t take away from how great the overall production was.

For my first stage reading experience, People, Places and Things was definitely a good one. I went in knowing almost nothing about the story and left with a lot to think about.

People, Places, and Things

Just watched People, Places, and Things yesterday at Proscenium, Rockwell. Si Bella and Gabby ang leads.

I was actually hoping to watch Bella, but Gabby was the one we ended up seeing. And honestly, it felt like a blessing in disguise because sobrang galing ni Gabby! She was so effective in inhabiting her role—you could feel the character breathe through her performance. There was such conviction in the way she delivered her lines and carried each moment.

My friend, on the other hand, watched Bella. Hmm… did anyone watch her also last night? What do you guys think about her acting?

In any case, I really enjoyed the production’s—especially the director’s—take on the show. I had my reservations about it being a staged reading, but in this case, it felt like so much more than that. The lighting, the use of chairs, the sound design, and the overall staging were terrific. Everything felt intentional, and the simplicity of the staging somehow made the performances stand out even more.

A lovely reminder that theatre doesn’t always need elaborate sets to transport you somewhere. Sometimes, all it needs is a good actor, a well-timed light, a chair, a sound—and a story worth telling.

Watched Babae sa Septic Tank 4 with my gf and I came to a new realization

Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 4 made me think I should just watch them as it is

I should let the musicals/theaters speak to me without me dictating what it should be or what it should become lalo kung limitado at kokonti pa lang ang alam ko

Just like how I invested my time, mental bandwidth, and emotional connection in reading books where I have new interpretations, questions, and realizations each time I read them…

Babae sa Septic Tank 4 made me go down the rabbit hole wondering if this or that are certain symbolisms o baka trip lang nila at wala talaga meaning 😂 ako lang pala yun nagooverthink haha!

There are parts I feel I lost and there are parts which were really relatable

But what I will bring with me now with this experience is always watch every musical or theater with a Tabula Rasa or a “blank slate” taking off any judgment or criticism and just immerse myself into every detail of it

Kung na-disturb ako, then so be it

Kung humagalpak ako sa kakatawa kita na ngala-ngala, then so be it

Kung restless ako kaka-connect the dots, then so be it

Babae sa Septic Tank 4 reminded me I am a human BEing

…that I should just BE in the moment as it is

Maraming maraming salamat Ms Eugene Domingo!!!

Sobrang flex ko matuturing napanood ko in person ang laki ng passion ng puso mo para sa craft mo!!
