anyway, started this long weekend all happy, pero nawasak peace ko after kong mabasa yung message ng foreigner boss ko sa new work ko questioning the accuracy of this new article na pinasa ko.

if may nakabasa dito nung nagtatanong ako if pwede ba ako manghingi ng increase as a marketing newbie for J3, ako yon HAHA and yes, kinuha ko yung J3 kasi nag-meet kami sa middle in terms of the offer. salamat nga pala sa lahat ng nagcomment! di na ako nakareply dahil naging busy ako 🥲

but for context pa rin: i have been working professionally as a news writer for half a decade, pero recently, i decided na gusto ko ng experience sa marketing dahil ang baba ng pasahod sa news work as someone na hindi pa tenured/wala pang seniority.

nalaman ko tong trabaho na 'to sa kakilala ko dahil dun din siya nagwuwork. because of the freelance-like setup and lack of the usual benefits, i made it my second job while retained pa rin yung first job ko sa media industry. kaya naman dahil magkaiba ang oras at hindi na ganon ka-demanding si J1.

wala pa akong one month sa work na 'to but di naman masyadong hassle ang adjustment period kahit may mga times na lumalabas ang red flags nung maliit na marketing team namin (e.g. ang gulo ng delegation ng tasks dahil papalit-palit while you're already in the middle of executing it, they're asking for more content & engagement pero kahit anong i-propose ko ayaw nila cos they refuse to be flexible, at marami pa).

ang main task ko talaga ay magsulat ng industry-relevant articles sa website. basta anything that involves writing. but i'm a marketing assistant, i was told by other marketing ppl and i expected na hindi lang yon ang task ko. so okay, that's fine.

hindi business ang niche ko so i am very careful with the stuff i write. beyond my usual effort pa nga. todo sa research. as in old-school, hindi ai. the only time i use ai is kapag need ko i-doublecheck if pasok yung article sa modern SEO standards dahil yun ang gusto nila and i'm still studying SEO. i never asked ai to edit or rewrite it cos i do that myself.

ayaw din nila ng masyadong newsy na article. mas gusto nila yung mala-analysis. a very confident and assumptive style of writing that i'm not used to, but kaya ko naman so iyon ang ginagawa ko.

i have been doing this kind of work beyond my professional years, so i'm used to it and i am quite proud of it. kwestyunin na ibang skills ko, wag lang ang anything linked to my being a journalist.

but netong sabado, i saw a message by who i assumed to be one of the boss (hindi ako sure kasi hindi ako mineeting nang maayos, yung onboarding ko ay trabaho agad instead of proper intro sa company. another red flag. plus nickname yung gamit niya sa messaging app).

he said (non verbatim): "Who produced this? To be honest, I'm not even sure if this insight is true or not. I can always ask Claude (the ai) for the sources but it won't be the same as the writer/editor. The headline and body are contradictory too." then he proceeded to say something i never mentioned doon sa article.

i felt offended. in my professional years sa news work, no one ever questioned my accuracy and credibility. oo, i have so many things to improve on, but that aspect was never a problem. and the implication na i made something up made me want to scream. sobrang sakit, nakakagalit. hindi siya mawala sa isip ko.

ang nakakatawa pa, they have been using ai-generated articles for quite some time. walang proper editing or validation, post lang agad. kaya nga sila nag-hire ng writer dahil gusto nila ng "human touch". they never had a problem with their ai possibly hallucinating and generating wrong info before, pero ngayon kikwestyunin nila ako?

i even asked a colleague sa J1 to doublecheck the article in case i missed something. wala naman daw, and even they don't understand what the boss was talking about.

hindi ko pa nirereplyan to explain dahil dayoff namin ang weekend, i have strict boundaries about that. kaya bukas na lang ako magpapaliwanag sa kanya.

pero sa totoo lang, nawalan ako ng gana. kailangan ko ulit magsulat ng article for them for monday pero wala na ako sa mood.

valid ba 'to? valid ba na maisip ko na baka hindi talaga for me ang marketing dahil bawat nangyayari ay kinikwestyon at kinaiinisan ko? ibang-iba ang marketing sa news work. ever since talaga, journalism ang nasa puso ko. pero gusto at kailangan ko ng pera, but at what cost?

napapaisip tuloy ako kung mag-sstay pa ba ako sa kumpanyang 'to after nung 3-month probationary period ko. hihintayin ko kung ano magiging response niya sa paliwanag ko but right now, i feel demotivated.

ordered sa 24 Chicken kanina and sa Philippine Arena yung location so we were wondering if may mag-aaccept ba. mag-30 minutes na and until now, wala pa ring rider na nag-aaccept nung order 😭

cacancel ko na lang sana so we can order somewhere else kaso ayaw na i-cancel ni Grab dahil piniprepare na raw ng resto. as far as i know, di naman piniprepare ng resto yung order hangga't walang rider na nag-aaccept 🫩

hello! so i'm thinking of taking on a third job. for context: J1 is full time with fixed schedule, J2 is contractual and flexible.

possible J3 is full time and flexible. it has a freelance/VA kind of setup in a way na: sched depends on the client's needs (US and Europe clients), no company HMO, no extra benefits, own device, and they won't be deducting and filing tax & govt-mandated benefits kasi ako raw bahala doon.

they offered me a PHP30,000 salary, with a PHP5,000 increase (upon regularization) for a marketing assistant position.

i researched the average monthly income for the role and significantly mas mataas yung offer nila sa entry level.

but the thing is the department is new. apat lang sila doon including yung nagsusupervise sa kanila. and sabi nung nag-refer sa akin, marami daw plano yung company sa marketing na hindi ma-execute dahil kulang sa tao. so from that it's obvious na they're building the marketing team from the ground up and sobrang dami naming gagawin.

also during our initial interview, i assumed na i'll only focus sa pagiging writer nila sa marketing department because ayun daw yung hinahanap nila. however, upon receiving the offer letter, they're also expecting me to support marketing campaigns, social media engagement, etc. i was not briefed about that during the interview dahil puro tanong nila is about what i can contribute as a writer.

one of the interviewers also asked me about my graphic design skills, which i have in my portfolio that i sent to them. at isa lang graphic designer nila... so...

on top of the possibility of a demanding workload, nandyan pa yung fact na walang HMO and additional benefits. walang internet allowance, electricity allowance, OT pay, etc. tapos WFH and own device ko pa. kung ano lang yung offer nilang sweldo, yun lang ang makukuha ko. parang sobrang kulang. meron naman daw leaves, according sa kausap ko pero in their case, 5 credits lang daw meron siya.

meron fixed na Sat-Sun restdays. won't be following PH holidays. no night differential pay.

kaya napaisip ako if dapat bang manghingi ako ng mas malaking offer.

but i'm hesitating because this would be my first time delving into professional marketing. i'll be coming from the news industry tapos niche ko pa is entertainment and lifestyle. business and private equity itong si J3, and while may experience naman ako with that because of J1 at alam kong i'm flexible naman, i feel like it's not enough. plus, any marketing experience i have was from when i was in college pa four years ago.

so i wanna know if tama bang mag-request ako ng higher offer sa gantong lagay ko? haha if yes, okay ba yung PHP40,000 or should i go higher? masyado na ba akong garapal non? 😭 feel ko medyo desperate silang maghanap ng tao to fill the writer position so baka mag-agree sila but... nahihiya ako? 😭

and kung di man sila mag-agree, should i just ask if okay lang kung part-time na lang with the same salary? 🥲

i've been planning to buy my first-ever professional cam and i'm eyeing the Sony A6400. pero hindi ko alam if i should just buy it with the kit lens muna then upgrade na lang ng lens later, or body at Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 agad ang bibilhin ko?

for the budget: pasok pareho, but medyo tight na kapag yung body+tamron lens kaya medyo nag-aalangan ako

photography i'm planning to focus on: street, everyday/travel, and eventually sana, theater (as in plays, musicals)

i've been asking other A6400 users sa TikTok the same question and sabi nila mas okay daw na body+tamron cos the kit lens isn't that good pero i watched a youtube demo video for street photography and mukhang okay naman? 🥲
