If it was a Nester it would have been illuminated, if it's Mr Whiteout you'd think it would be following him not sitting in a closet, and that doesn't explain the fuzzy white things in front of him.
I am a bit lost, because what does the name Glendale refer to? Is it the name of a location (I’ve seen it’s a city in California), the subject’s surname or something else entirely?
I’m not from the us and English is not my mother language either so I might be just missing some context.
Recently, we have found out the actor of the subjects, real name. We have also found their band. I dont want anybody to harass Tim Coakley, or any other member of the band Summerdrive for lore about Glendale. This includes spam commenting on his Instagram or YouTube. You all can make a joke or a compliment ("Guys i found the subject" or "Fantastic work in Glendale, Tim!" ) but please do not harass anyone. As far as we know, Summerdrive, their music, and other related parties are not related to Glendale. Until proven otherwise, do not treat Summerdrive as such.

it made me so unexplainably happy finding the series after making a habit for ages of filming on a Hi8 camera.
I’ve seen a lot of people connecting the Summerdrive video to Glendale Archives and building theories around it, especially now that the format is similar, but I don’t think the video is actually a prologue or part of the Glendale Archives story.
The way I see it, the video is more of an inspiration for Glendale than something that exists within its universe. The recording style, the nostalgic feeling, the old footage, and especially the idea of looking back at people and memories all feel like elements that could have inspired the aesthetic and concept of Glendale Archives.
And yeah, I understand why people make the connection, especially since the person in the Summerdrive video is the same actor/creator behind Glendale and there are obvious similarities in the way he presents himself. But I think we should also remember that Summerdrive is its own music and video project. The video is talking about very personal things, including his brother and his life, and I think turning those intimate moments directly into Glendale lore takes away from what the video is actually trying to express.
To me, it feels much more meaningful to see it as one of the inspirations behind Glendale’s atmosphere rather than a secret piece of its story. The nostalgia, the way the footage feels like an old memory and presents to us that concept with the old camera, and that feeling of looking back at a life or childhood that has already passed can all exist as creative inspiration without the events themselves being part of the Glendale universe.
So I don’t think the Summerdrive video is secretly a Glendale Archives entry or prologue. It feels more like a personal work that helped inspire the language and atmosphere that eventually became Glendale Archives.
If the actual Hi8 camera potentially used for some filming (but also maybe just a prop) is the same one the actor playing the subject owns in real life per Summerdrive, I know for a fact that his camera is a Samsung Digitalcam. While Samsung is more of a tech giant these days and usually stands toe-to-toe with Apple with their Galaxy phone line, back in the day they were more of a mid-tier clone brand. The first Galaxy phone was one of their first big swings into creating a leading product.
Sony was the king of media technology in those days. They even sold the largest CRT television ever created, which came with documentation regarding where it was safe to place it in a building due to the weight. During the Hi8 days, Sony's camera line was the Sony Handycam (of which I happen to own one, procured in-box at a thrift store for $20). Sony is still big nowadays but they've lost their luster on the media tech front. They still make phones, cameras, media players, but they aren't nearly as all-encompassing.
What does this mean for the subject? Well, nothing really. The build quality of the camera might be a little worse, but it doesn't make much difference. Maybe it speaks to a childhood that wasn't the richest, given his N64 was likely purchased during the final year or production, when it would be cheapest. His parents might look at the price difference between Sony and Samsung and go for the cheaper option. But realistically it probably means nothing. It's just weird where your niche knowledge will take you sometimes.
THIS IS NOT TRYING TO FIND OUT WHO THE SUBJECT IS IN REAL LIFE I JUST HAVE TROUBLE PHRASING MY THEORY PLEASE HEAR ME OUT
Just today, as you likely know, a youtube channel for a band called Summerdrive was discovered which prominently featured the man we have come to know as "the subject". At first I, like I'm sure many of you were, was a bit skeptical that this was intended to be part of the series and was concerned about the idea of doxxing the poor guy. Seeing as his socials aren't anywhere online in connection to the series, it's a reasonable assumption. But then I found a particular video, one I would heavily recommend anyone reading this post watch before proceeding deeper into this post.
Now, in the video you will pick up on some familiar imagery. The subject is there, obviously, and he has his Hi8 camera. And his old family home is exactly the same as what we know as big house, just like in the series. This video was where I started to realize that the stories he tells in the videos are more than just fiction, they are grounded in a history he has in real life. And the thing is, I think the creation of this video was very formative in the creation of the series and might be a sort of spiritual "prequel". Because what this video solves is not the identity of the subject (as in his actor); it solves who the subject, as in the character in the series, is, and how he ended up where he is.
It has been ambiguous for a while how long the subject has been in the situation he's in and how he ended up there. We know that, for the most part, logs are concurrent with reality. The series' first episode was released in December, and for the most part the series takes place during winter. As winter ended, it did so in the series, and the dates have continued to align. The way the subject talks, he has likely been in this strange liminal reality for at least a few months. The video in question was released in May, and the first episode dropped in December. Around 6-7 months.
Now here's where things really clicked for me. In the video, he talks about how he was looking through his old stuff and walking around his old family home, and remarking on how much he's grown. And then he talks about how he had the instinct to run away and close himself off from his bandmates, but he was able to be vulnerable and talk about his past, how his brother died, and channel his emotions into a song. This is where I think the subject comes from, and how he ended up where he is.
Langoliers is often compared to glendale archives, for obvious reasons. In the movie, the characters end up 15 minutes in the past, behind everyone and everything else, and have to escape their empty, liminal environment before history-eating monsters called Langoliers kill them. By ending up a few minutes ahead, time "catches up" and they are allowed to return to time yet again. It's a haunting idea, and one that may serve as an analog for the series in some ways, but after seeing this video I think I've come to a slightly different conclusion; the subject is the version of this real man that he could have been if he hadn't opened up to people and grown and changed as a person.
This guy, whoever he is, seems much more well-adjusted and healthy than the subject. And while yes, the circumstances would obviously lead to some mental duress, the way he talks about and obsesses over his past is ALSO unhealthy. He's stuck in it, refusing to move on, to make new friends and new connections, and as such is now trapped in the exact world he wished for; where everything is the same, forever, and he's all alone. By actually changing and growing, this past version was discarded, left to do what the real man could have, but never did; live alone in a small apartment, close himself off from everyone, obsess over his past, and deny reality. There's similar traits between them, of course, they were the same at one point, or maybe were just based on the same person. They both have a Hi8, they both play the guitar, they both live in the same area and grew up in the same house. The only difference is one refused to change. Whether the subject is just who the real man fears being or a past version of himself discarded into the physical plane of the past a la Langoliers, I highly doubt given the parallels between Summerdrive and Glendale that this was an unintentional connection.
That being said, while I think at least the video I linked is fair game for literary analysis, I would like to echo concerns others have posted about and humbly request that the actual person behind this series not be doxxed or scrutinized and that the identity of big house remain off limits. Just because this dude created a series based on his anxieties and past, rooted in reality, doesn't mean we should dig into said reality beyond what he has decided to show us. This was a valuable discovery for thematic reasons but I have no desire to start digging into personal details and I think you should all do the same. The art, whether it be the series itself or the video and associated song, may be ripe for analysis but it is not your job to try to understand the person behind said art. Media analysis is different than harassment. Use common sense, please.

I know its unique, so the suggestions don't have to be exact, but something that captures either the found footage/ analog horror, or really anything that gives the same vibe, maybe more horror?
As many of you know, film theory made an analyses on the glendale archive.
And I as a big fan of all the theory channels was very dissapointed.
He kept stretching the video talking about irrelevant information without even mentioning the nester in the mall, the nester in the cabin, and the shadow (or nester?) In the big house basement.
Yes i know his analyses was made before the newer videos where we got more lore and information but it still felt like he just made it so the people will stop asking for the analyses.
Not to mention him ending the video with an already known theory without contributing barely anything to it.
And i know that he has a tight schedule since he uploads around every week, but still he coold have put a little more effort or have delayed the video for like a day or 2.

Also after some digging i found out our subject’s name is Timothy Coakley and his last post was on july 6 2025
His brother:
Michael Coakly who is our subjects brothers died somewhere around 2017
The dissapearance:
-our subject dissapeared around september 18 2025.
The tapes:
-the earliest tape dates to november 29 2025 (yes i filled in the blank) which is 72 days from when he dissapeared.

Now whats messing with me is that the archival team says that these tapes were from 4 years ago so these dates dont add up even tho when i searched and found evidence the fact that they say its from 4 years ago is the only anomaly.

The archival team is lying to us

Our subject decuded to get a bike and upgrade it to stay safe and reach places faster
The problem is that the subject decided for camouflage to use a mirror
WHEN WE CLEARLY SAW NESTERS BE VIOLENT WHEN NEAR MIRRORS SINCE THEY ATTACK THEIR OWN REFLECTION.
Yes it might work if the nester is at an angle and they can only see the reflection of the forest but the moment the mirror is straight up infront they will attack it and might damage his bike.
Not to mention our subject might park his bike somewhere and a nester will find it and attack it, possibly even damaging his bike again.
And if he crashes the sharp pieces of the mirror might hurt him severly.
Also for defense he chose only a gun intead of also taking a knife for situations like the 64 incident where he threw a gun and had nothing to defend himself.
If there wasnt the n64 he woold have gotten severly injured if not die.

\+During the entire ongoing series of tapes that we get to watch on youtube, we only saw mr.whiteOut 3 confirmed times.
Ill put them in chronological order from my perspective.
1-Mr.whiteOut in what looks like a dark room with our subject.
2- Mr.whiteOut slowly following our subject through the woods.
3- Mr.whiteOut being in the mall with our subject.
\+Other than that.
If you remember when our subject was in the mall and kept putting his camera down and exploring the place.
I noticed that in one of those scenes when he went towards that long corridoor (hall) we hear breathing next to the camera for like a second.
I dont think people noticed that so i decided to mention that just incase anyone has a theory or a soet of explanation other then the small possibility of it being Mr.whiteOut.
\+We havent gotten any proper explanation about Mr.whiteOut other than that the subject refers to him as a separate entity then the nesters and that it "sounds" harmless and that SOMETHING IN HIM DOESNT TRUST HIM (aka Mr.whiteOut).
\+Anyway if u didnt get it or havent concluded anything then ill point it out again.

And if any of you remember the subject once mentioned in one of his videos (i dont remember which one and at what time but he did say something like this) he can sort of feel like when a nester is following him or hostile or just near him or like stalking him (im not sure which one)
So its like our qubject has like a power or a 6 sense to feel danger (also im not implying Mr.whiteOut is a nester since we have never seen the subject acknowledge him as one or seen him ever giving some sort of radio signals)

From that on scene of him being in a dark room i assume he can sort of control light or electric energy like the nesters?
He most like has bad intentions and might be learning from our subject like the nesters since he seems to have some sorts of intelligence and is constantly following our subject.
Might have a bigger role in the story then we think he does.

In the graveyard scene where the subject decided to not use the car you can feel his hesitation in his voice.
And what sold it is that the subject focuses the camera on a nester just behind a grave. And as lokan said ' it feels like a trap '.
He also brought up the fact that the car had an active battery and that the nester might be able to deactivate it at any time.

And here is where my theory shines.
Litteraly and electronic device can be altered in someway or deactivated by a nester.
We have seen it with the car scene and with the flashlight in the hotel room ( you can also argue the radio also counts ).
If you can imagine how devastating it is ill just bring up some examples of electronic devices.
- Most if not ALL modern day cars.
- Fridges.
- Electronic stove.
- Microwaves.
- radio.
- Any sort of electronic powered light ( imagine the subject in a mall and it becomes straight up pitchblack, also flashlights count ).
- Any cameras ( including the one the subject uses ).
- Clocks ( yes most modern day clocks need electricity ).
- Most if not all phones ( if the subject even trues to get one ).
- Also drones.

The point of this post isnt to straight up say to not use any electronics.
I simply wanted to bring up the fact that in the world where our subject is surviving in, its dangerous to be dependent on electronics at all times.
Its also good if our subjects keeps with himself a bunch of batteries incase his flashlight runs out of batteries.

This theory also depends on the fact that nesters can control all form of electricity at any scale.
