Advice on troubleshooting Dex not working on a dock?

I bought a Dell dock today (K21A) alongside a second dock from a local e-waste store for steam deck and Dex use, and for whatever reason the K21A will not play nice with any android devices I own. The other dock works with Dex fine, and I plugged my steam deck into the K21A, which also worked fine. Everything checks out except Dex specifically on the K21A.

I tried my current backup phone (S24 FE), my main phone (Note20 Ultra) and my tablet (S9+) but none of them would play nice with the dock. It isn't a disaster if it just won't work with Dex ever, since I can return it and get a duplicate of the one that does work, but the wireless charging is really handy so if there's an easy fix for this issue I would appreciate knowing it.

How would someone discover a force that holds physics together?

I'm working on a horror story right now that applies sci-fi to cosmic horror imagery, and a crucial plot point is that a force is discovered that somehow holds physics together. In zones that are intentionally deprived of it, in a Faraday cage styled setup, lose any hold of physics, things dissolve and break down, gravity breaks, etc etc. This force is later discovered to originate from the corpse of some higher being, and the universe is essentially the rot that feeds on the meat.

My question is, if something like this existed, what fields of study would lead to finding it? How would someone plausibly accidentally uncover something like that? And would it be a force, a particle, something quantum? What kind of terminology should I be leaning on to describe it, at least pseudo-scientifically?

I recently managed to get this sweet 19" PVM and a black and white security monitor. Both work fine and I tested some analog inputs including one of my many palmcorders and it all checked out. But I wanted to play some emulators and retro-style games, and for some reason the PVM just will not accept any input (security monitor is untested as of writing this).

I tried my steam deck, which I have used on CRTs before via the dock and an adapter, but nothing. I plugged in my PS3 with an authentic AV cable, no dice either. I even tried the HDMI to AV adapter with the HDMI port on the PS3, just in case, but, you guessed it, nope.

Natively analog things work just fine, I used a combo VCR/DVD player and it worked right out the gate. Do I need a different adapter or is there something about the signals that it isn't gonna like regardless of a digital to AV conversion?
