Wild Wheel Wednesday

So I was look on on camera audience and I noticed a description on the page where it talks about changes they made to the Showcase Showdown where the contestants can win more than $100,000 in cash and other prizes. I'm actually excited to hear about this new concept that they have for the big wheel. We could be looking at some very big winners. Lemme know what y'all think

Price is Right Season 55 Contestant Process (recent experience)

I went to a couple of tapings a couple of weeks ago and wanted to share how the contestant process is working for Season 55.

You still park at the Haven Church and then walk to a fence where the signs point the way. Once you get to the fence, you wait for them to check your tickets and give you a contestant number. Even if your ticket says priority, get there early. I saw multiple people turned away. It might have been a summer thing, but if you’re flying in from out of town, you don’t want to chance it.
Once you get your number, they let you in. There’s a wanding process through security, you can grab a water, and then you do the short walk to the first of two holding rooms.

In the first holding room you line up, get your name tag, show your ID, and then get seated in numerical order. They call groups of about 12 people over to computers to fill out the contestant paperwork for the show.
After that, they line you up again in order and bring you to the second holding room. There’s a whiteboard with the air date of the episode you’re attending, and you sit in numerical order again.

In that room you meet with Hannah (in groups of about 12 again) inside a space with fake walls. This is where you show your enthusiasm. If you want to get selected, go over the top. The people who got picked were genuinely excited and over-the-top about being there. If you’re just going to be average, don’t expect to get called. That energy really matters.

After meeting with Hannah, you take a picture with the fake wheel (it’s a green screen setup), then sit back down in numerical order. They play an episode of The Price is Right and Hannah gives a pep talk on how to come on down and be excited.

Once that’s done, they bring you to the studio. Before you enter, you hand in your phone if you have one. Someone seats you by the number you’re still wearing, so by that point they already know who’s going to get called and they spread those people throughout the audience. The studio only holds about 128 people now so your chances of getting called are significantly better.

Once you’re seated they play music, George comes out to pump up the crowd, and then taping starts.
Good luck to everyone, and I hope you all get picked if that’s what you’re going for.

Dian’s disappearing act is complex

Hard to believe Dian has not made a public appearance or been photographed in over 30 years, right? She clearly wanted her privacy. Now I understand why Holly wasn’t wanting to take any sides with regards to the accusations even though Kathleen claims it was all consensual between Bob and Dian. In any event, thank you Dian for hundreds of great moments on television!

If you are lucky enough to go on a game show for God sakes record and save your show.

I see way too often people asking for their game show episode. Either they recorded it a long time ago and misplaced the tape or they never recorded it. I also have friends that have been on game shows recently and they’re like I don’t need to record it because it’s on the streaming service.

  1. Shows will not be available on streaming services forever. Do not rely on the fact that it’s currently streaming on a particular service and you don’t need to record it. Eventually, it will not be airing anywhere. That is just a fact of life with this medium.

  2. You do not need a DVR to record a show. You just need a tricked out chrome browser, and screen recording from QuickTime.

  3. Invest in an account with Google Drive or the like save your show there and in multiple other places.

  4. Whatever you do don’t point your phone at your TV and record that way. It looks and sounds horrible.

If you are technically challenged, find someone who isn’t. Don’t get to the point where you’re asking strangers for your show in the future. You don’t have to rely on other people. That’s the end of my TED talk.

Barker-Era The Price Is Right: Full Episode Behind the Scenes

Years ago I found a Barker/Rod Roddy Era episode of the Price Is Right on YouTube that was 100% behind the scenes; from the moment they cued "Walking" (come on down) right to the closing credits. It was so fascinating seeing everything come together in real time. Unfortunately it got pulled from YouTube and I can no longer find it.

Has anyone else seen this behind the scenes episode or know where it can be found?

Does anyone else find the show borderline unwatchable anymore?

Long time watcher but every time I tune in, I just can't watch for more than a few minutes. It doesn't feel genuine anymore. Everything feels extremely orchestrated and fake. The contestants overenthusiastic behavior is so over exaggerated it's almost palpable. The over the top screaming, jumping, yelling. It's just so corny.

It's like the recruiting team has been watching too much tiktok and has tapped into the "overeact for hype and clicks" you see in every mainstream YouTube video or short. It makes me cringe. I wish people could just be themselves again but I know that doesn't bring the $$$. Real shame.

How long do you wait at the church typically?

My friend and I went to the show a couple years ago. We waited at the church for quite a while after the contestant interviews. We think this is because they were switching over from a primetime special taping to the normal daytime taping.

My friend doesn’t want to go again because he didn’t like how long we waited. But again, I think we waited a little bit longer than normal because of a set change.

Also, do you wait less in the morning than if you’re not the first taping of the day?

What's included with vacation prize packages

On yesterday's episode, someone had an opportunity to win a 15-day trip, and the prize package included 33 meals. By my math, that's a little more than 2 meals per day. Is it normal for all 3 meals not to be included for each day of a trip?

One Away

I’m sorry, but I have to mute the first half of this gameplay. I know that the “mighty sound effects lady” schtick is Drew’s thing, but it just takes too damn long.

“We’ve also added…” items.

For example, if the prize is a coffee maker, George will describe the item and then say, “we’ve also added 100 coffee pods.”

Are the contestants expected to factor in the cost of the pods in their bid?

Or just bid on the cost of the coffee maker itself?

The worst case of an El Skunko on The Price Is Right

The ARP for the Items up for Bids are incredibly low and no contestant gets a $500 bonus for a bid on the nose. Multiple overbids. These are the only prizes won throughout the multiple show

All 6 pricing games are lost outright with no bailouts and contestants going for it. (EG: No numbers right on One Away, The Danger Price Is picked, etc)

During both Showcase Showdowns, the first two spinners go over $1 from spinning the big wheel twice, putting the third contestant through to the showcase, who fails to get a $1000 bonus on their single spin.

At the end of the show, a Double Overbid occirs. Both contestants overbids by either by too little or too much.

Does Drew always wear a microphone?

In today’s episode, Drew pointed out during Hole in One that he was wearing a microphone. Does Drew always wear it, or is it something for Hole in One only (when Drew gives the inspirational putt)?

If this game had a different rule setting, what could they have done instead?

A minor question for the people who remember this game.

Looking for an episode from the early 80s

Hi. My mom was a contestant on TPIR in the early 80s, and I'm trying to find a recording of the episode. Some clues: her name is Georgia Muth. We think this happened around 1980-1982. She was the last contestant called up during that particular episode. She believes "Plinko" was played, but I'm not sure. She won a bedroom set. She made it to the showcase showdown, but did not win. Anyone know of a searchable database of episodes or contestants? Any TPIR fanatics have a list stuff like that? Any other pointers? I'd love to find this episode for her!

Card Game Question

During the most recent Card Game layout the back of the board is facing the audience with the front facing away from them. Drew usually can give a verbal play by play but how is the audience visually able to see what the current price is displayed as well as the car price (in the new format the car price is no longer verbally read as was the case before)? The board layout just recently changed since the "Carey's Car Club" format and I believe the first format had the board at an angle where the audience could see the screen.
