Virtual Trans support groups accessible anywhere in the US?

Hi! My MTF sister came out to me and my mother as trans when I lived with her 6+ years ago. She struggles with her mental health and addiction but she’s been becoming more confident in her gender identity in the last couple of years or so. But that being said, she still struggles a lot with finding the courage and bravery to transition to her true self. I’ve recommended individual therapy to help her with her PTSD and subsequent addiction issues (because I did the same thing with my PTSD and addiction stemming from the same person) but my mom and I are primarily trying to help her find a support system in the Trans community because, no matter how much we support and love her, we can’t give her the same support, guidance and advice that a Trans person can give her. And she’s struggled a lot with finding these resources on her own.
She has a lot of anxiety and we’ve struggled to help her find in person support groups for her to join to help her with the confidence and guidance she needs to take her next step in transitioning and living life as herself for the first time in over 30 years. I’ve been looking into online support groups and am struggling to find a community (ANYWHERE in the US) where she can join virtually and build confidence and connections to help her on her journey. She has a lot of anxiety about going in person, especially groups that are “local” to her (aka the NE US) and she’s expressed a lot of interest in someday moving to Colorado so that’s where I’ve been looking primarily. But I’m struggling so if anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or tips to help me find her a virtual support group/aid or assistance to help her become her true self, PLEASE let me know because I truly just want her to be herself and be happy. I’ll take any advice y’all will give me!

Texas Under 26 HRT Ban:

Hello, I'm planning to start HRT Estrogen and T Blockers with Plume in 3-months, I live in Texas though. I've heard the Texas state government is planning to implement an under-26 ban, I'm 18 so this would be terrible for me. If this bill was to be implemented, could I likely still travel to New Mexico (which I live pretty close too) to obtain care?

New California Laws: Trans People Can Make Name and Gender Change Records Confidential, Require Schools to Have All-Gender Bathrooms

A lot of good news! Here’s the part about trans records:

“New privacy protections for transgender Californians

In California, when transgender and nonbinary people change their names, gender and sex identifiers on official documents, those petitions are public records that have, in some cases, led to people being forcibly outed and harassed. […]

While a 2023 law already required courts to keep those records confidential for minors, the Transgender Privacy Act extends that protection to people of all ages this year. […]

SB 59 applies to any petition filed on or after July 1, and people with older records can request their records be made confidential as well. It also prohibits anyone other than the petitioner from posting confidential records online.”

Other new laws: Schools are required to have a gender-neutral bathroom, and middle and high schools have to print the Trevor Project hotlines on ID cards.

Daughters of American Revolution defeats proposal to block transgender members

“The Daughters of the American Revolution beat back a membership uprising over transgender membership, rejecting a resolution that would have barred male-born candidates from being admitted to the venerable women’s patriotic organization.

“DAR members defeated the resolution, which would have clarified that applicants must be ‘born female’ to be eligible for membership, at a Friday vote of the 135th Continental Congress at Memorial Continental Hall in the District.

“Introduced by a cohort of members known as Daughters Advocating for Restoration, the proposal lost by a 1,481-984 vote of the assembly, according to Laura McDonald, a leader of the resistance group and treasurer of the DAR’s Martha Laird Chapter in Mount Pleasant, Texas.”

“Membership is limited to women 18 and older descended from an ancestor who aided the American Revolution, but the president-general said in 2023 that “transgender women” are eligible under the group’s nondiscrimination policy.”

“Cheering the outcome were members of Daughters for Inclusivity, a countergroup of DAR members in support of ‘welcoming all women’ and the principle that ‘trans women are women.’

“‘Thankfully, the Resolution did not pass,’ said Joy Abshire Laws on the Daughters for Inclusivity page on Facebook.

“‘There is no place for discrimination in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Thank you to the delegates who persevered through a long and grueling vote and chose a path of inclusion, respect, and unity. Now it’s time to move forward together.’

“Teagan Livingston, a self-described ‘trans daughter,’ also thanked members for defeating the proposal, saying on Facebook that ‘I’m over the moon grateful for DAR and the wonderful daughters who showed up!’

“The resolution’s opponents included DAR President-General Ginnie Sebastian Storage, who posted after the vote, ‘Thank you all!’”

“The vote came after a three-year effort by Daughters of Restoration to place the issue before the membership.”

Thoughts on HRT mega-document(s) as a resource?

Hey guys,

So I randomly decided a few days ago that I wanted to create a document(s) that outlines some basic information about hormones, that can be used in conjunction as a source to help those who are just starting hormones, want to start and are unsure, or just curious people.

The document(s) will cover: what the hormone is; formulations (i.e. shot, patch, etc.); specific types (i.e cypionate, enanthate, etc.); science (only some bits); how to take (common manufacturer recommendations, and a whole section on supplies and safely taking a shot). Sources and links will be included throughout the document and as its own section.

What it will NOT cover: DIY, sources, crypto. The reason is that I do not want to be held responsible in case the information is wrong or out of date or something happens and I feel responsible for it.

What the goals are: providing an objective resource for trans, questioning, gender-queer, non-binary, or anyone along those lines to learn what they want or need to, in order to feel safe, secure, and confident in their decision on pursuing or not pursuing HRT, as well as providing good starting points for individual research.

Why I want to do this: I am bored and I like learning and sharing things I learn. There are so many resources out there that are scattered, and I found that it was nearly impossible to find all the information I wanted in one place that made sense. I am aware of how intense this undertaking is, which is why it will take me a long time to get the document(s) posted, and why I will consider it a constant work in progress. I just want to positively affect the community by providing the most up-to-date and accurate information I can.

If there is anything you would like me to address that is not listed or something you commonly see/wonder about, either reply here or email me at xtlwcchc@clivaro.io. I WILL NOT ANSWER DM'S NOR WILL I DM YOU. If you think this is a terrible idea, also let me know and I will scrap my outline. Thanks for reading so far. I apologize for the length.

can you top surgery as a 18 year old without parental consent while being on your parents insurance?

I’m about to turn eighteen and I desperately want top surgery. I get insurance through my parents work and I live in the United States (NY state). I don’t care if they see that I got surgery through a bill or anything but I don’t have their permission.

Research Study Opportunity: Seeking Transgender Women and Gender-Diverse Individuals 18 Years and Older Starting Estrogen Based Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy

Hi everyone!

My name is Matilda Delgado and I am a clinical researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, MA. I’m writing to share some information regarding a research study that we are currently recruiting for. We are actively seeking transgender women and gender-diverse individuals to study how an at-home resistance exercise program can prevent decreases and muscle mass and muscle strength in those starting estrogen-based gender-affirming hormone therapy.

You would be assigned to either a 12-week exercise program that you can do at home or encourage to work-out on your own during this time. You would also participate in two visits at MGH (a baseline and then a final in approximately 13 weeks). The study has been approved and is monitored by a research board at MGH. Participants are eligible for up to $480 in compensation. Additionally, for each visit, we cover any transportation (within the Greater Boston area) and parking expenses and provide you with a meal ticket. If interested, please contact me at (617) 643-5807 or email our study team at mghstrengthstudy@mgb.org, or you can click this link to learn more about our study https://rally.massgeneralbrigham.org/study/strengthstudy.

Texas apparently may ban all trans care (HRT, surgery, everything) for ADULTS UP TO 26. Can we please pay attention to this?

https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/newly-released-texas-gop-platform

We need to pay attention! This is outrageous. Grown adults over the age of 18, and especially 21, should have power over their own choices! This is why they made that clinic - they are planning to force trans Texans to detransition by banning our care and championing that clinic as a savior.

I live here. I am trans. Please, everyone, please pay attention. Share it, talk about it.

Edit: Remember too that it will not stop with Texas.

Trans in Tenneesse

Hi, I'm a trans teenager in Tennessee. I'm attending a new high school (which is run by a college so I'm hoping it'll be better) in a fairly liberal big city, and I want to come out as trans. I'm pre-everything, but I pass 99% of the time. I actually think trying to say my deadname would turn more heads then if I said my real one. I do know this the worst possible time, and in one of the worst states, but man, I just want to be a man. What are the laws around transgender students, and would it really be better to just stay in the closet? I'm aware that if I requested to use my chosen name they would report it to my parents (who already know I'm trans), and I heard something about needing written parent permission. I really just need some information and advice. Thanks :]

What are the odds / Anyone else?

Im just wondering if there are any other transgender peeps who work in the security / public safety field that have had issues finding work since the big orange took office?

Its probably a dumb question to ask but for validity's sake I have had absolutely no luck finding work in Ohio. My resume is STACKED with private security experience for years, and employers love my resume, but then when they see or hear me its not a good fit anymore 🙃

Ive tried jobs with no experience necessary and even smaller gigs with NO luck. I either "dont fit qualifications for what the company is searching for" or "should pick something more along my experience".

Btw - transman here 20 months on HRT post emergency hysterectomy and just missed the window of opportunity for top surgery assistance with insurance by a literal month last year 😮‍💨

Thanks in advance for any responses, Im feeling whiplash but also not surprised by any of this considering the political climate.

Asheville

I'm currently looking for a place to relocate to. I'm considering Asheville, NC. I'm a transman who hasn't had top surgery yet. Any of my trans brothers/sisters in Asheville/surrounding areas who can tell me how life is there for us? Is it safe? How's medical care? My wife and i are home bodies and into nature so I'm not looking for any night life or anything.

question: medical transition without insurance coverage

wondering if anyone has any insight or advice. i am a 22 year old trans man, i live in a blue state but i am on my parent's employee insurance. the employer in question is a religious institution that does not cover any sort of gender affirming care for trans people. i have been on T for 10 months and paid for all the medication and appointments out of pocket (a bit less than $1400 from planned parenthood), and surgery feels so unattainable since most estimates i see put it around $10,000.

i am moving out of my parents' place soon but since i am still a student it's unlikely i will be working more than part-time so i'm not counting on getting my own employee insurance anytime soon. my school does not have student health insurance. i don't know how much money i'll be making once i move, but qualifying for medicaid might be a possibility.

i've done some research on alternative forms of funding and almost every article has linked me to point of pride's annual surgery fund. i do plan to apply when applications open in november, but according to their website only 24 people received funding from them last year, so i certainly don't want to count on it. all other grants or funds i've found are ones i don't qualify for based on location, funding for members specific demographics, etc, or they don't seem to be providing funding anymore (TUFF, Genderbands, etc).

does anyone know of any other ways i could try to cover medical transition costs? i don't want to go into debt in this economy, and i'm hesitant to do any crowdfunding since so many people i know are also struggling. i feel backed into a corner and i don't know where i can turn. thanks for reading.
