Resource explaining why trans people should be allowed to play sports
I found this good explainer from Gender Justice and wanted to share. Are there any similar resources you send people who are asking about trans people in sports (in good faith)?

A lot of good news! Here’s the part about trans records:
“New privacy protections for transgender Californians
In California, when transgender and nonbinary people change their names, gender and sex identifiers on official documents, those petitions are public records that have, in some cases, led to people being forcibly outed and harassed. […]
While a 2023 law already required courts to keep those records confidential for minors, the Transgender Privacy Act extends that protection to people of all ages this year. […]
SB 59 applies to any petition filed on or after July 1, and people with older records can request their records be made confidential as well. It also prohibits anyone other than the petitioner from posting confidential records online.”
Other new laws: Schools are required to have a gender-neutral bathroom, and middle and high schools have to print the Trevor Project hotlines on ID cards.

“The Daughters of the American Revolution beat back a membership uprising over transgender membership, rejecting a resolution that would have barred male-born candidates from being admitted to the venerable women’s patriotic organization.
“DAR members defeated the resolution, which would have clarified that applicants must be ‘born female’ to be eligible for membership, at a Friday vote of the 135th Continental Congress at Memorial Continental Hall in the District.
“Introduced by a cohort of members known as Daughters Advocating for Restoration, the proposal lost by a 1,481-984 vote of the assembly, according to Laura McDonald, a leader of the resistance group and treasurer of the DAR’s Martha Laird Chapter in Mount Pleasant, Texas.”
“Membership is limited to women 18 and older descended from an ancestor who aided the American Revolution, but the president-general said in 2023 that “transgender women” are eligible under the group’s nondiscrimination policy.”
“Cheering the outcome were members of Daughters for Inclusivity, a countergroup of DAR members in support of ‘welcoming all women’ and the principle that ‘trans women are women.’
“‘Thankfully, the Resolution did not pass,’ said Joy Abshire Laws on the Daughters for Inclusivity page on Facebook.
“‘There is no place for discrimination in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Thank you to the delegates who persevered through a long and grueling vote and chose a path of inclusion, respect, and unity. Now it’s time to move forward together.’
“Teagan Livingston, a self-described ‘trans daughter,’ also thanked members for defeating the proposal, saying on Facebook that ‘I’m over the moon grateful for DAR and the wonderful daughters who showed up!’
“The resolution’s opponents included DAR President-General Ginnie Sebastian Storage, who posted after the vote, ‘Thank you all!’”
“The vote came after a three-year effort by Daughters of Restoration to place the issue before the membership.”

“With state leaders such as [Calif. Attorney General Rob] Bonta and Governor Gavin Newsom using the bully pulpit that comes with their elected positions to speak up in support of health services for gender-nonconforming youth, the Bay Area Reporter inquired about the issue in its questionnaire sent to the 2026 gubernatorial candidates.”
“Only two of the remaining Democratic contenders in the race returned the paper’s questionnaire, former congressmember Katie Porter of Orange County and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan. Both told the B.A.R they support using legal and legislative avenues to protect gender-affirming care for youth.”
“While he didn’t turn in the B.A.R.’s questionnaire, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond addressed the issue in the one he did fill out for the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club. The progressive San Francisco political group endorsed Thurmond in the race.”
“The other top two Democrats in the race, billionaire-turned-politico Tom Steyer and Xavier Becerra, who served as the U.S. secretary of health and human services in the Biden administration, didn’t return the B.A.R.’s questionnaire. Nor did the top two Republicans, former Fox News host Steve Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.
“At a forum held earlier this year by LGBTQ advocates, Steyer and Becerra both expressed support for the trans community when asked about enforcing laws upholding their rights. Examples given by the moderators included the attacks on gender-affirming care.
“Monday Becerra picked up endorsements from two LGBTQ groups. The Stonewall Young Democrats based in Los Angeles County and Equality California both announced April 27 they are now backing him in the race.”
“Under California’s open primary system, only the top two vote-getters regardless of party affiliation will advance out of the June 2 primary.”
Erin in the Morning: "The vacatur applies nationwide, eliminating the legal basis that roughly 40 hospitals cited when they shuttered their trans youth care programs earlier this year. It also bars the Trump administration from implementing the Declaration or any materially similar policy threatening providers' federal funding for offering gender-affirming care. ... The ruling goes into effect immediately."
