First trip to DQ (see what I did there?)

Well...today was one for the books.

This morning started with Murphy's Law in full effect.

Forgot my primary competition gun at home.

Went back to get it.

Discovered the optic battery had died last night after a function check earlier that day.

Attempted to change the battery.

Accidentally moved the zero significantly.

Switched to my backup gun and barely made registration for today's USPSA All Classifier Match.

I figured the bad luck had run its course, and I was gonna run the course aggressively and let the chips fall where the may.

It hadn't.

On the first classifier of the day, while making a transition between shooting positions, my left knee buckled underneath me and I went down hard. Thankfully, my training took over. I maintained control of the firearm, kept my finger off the trigger, and kept the muzzle generally pointed safely downrange. Unfortunately, while on the way down to the ground, the muzzle touched the ground, which under USPSA rules is an automatic disqualification.

So...I officially earned my first trip to Dairy Queen.

As it turned out, I wasn't going to be finishing the match anyway. My knee wouldn't support my weight so I could not get up under my own power, and a trip to urgent care and crutches replaced a day of shooting classifiers.

Not exactly how I drew it up.

Level 1s are different at Richmond rod and gun club

Incredibly blessed and grateful to be able to shoot at a range that puts on such great consistent matches.

Clamshell didn’t activate on my first attempt. Grabbed two mags and went right back up. Fun stage. Looking forward to my next match which will be Coastal Classic a level 2 in San Louis Obispo.

First match next weekend, any words of wisdom?

Planning to attend my first match this coming weekend and am feeling underprepared. I’ve only been shooting for a few months, and have taken 3 training classes (Basic Handgun 1&2 & a defensive handgun course). The second two classes incorporated a lot of holster work, but my normal range is indoors and does not allow drawing from the holster, so I’ve been practicing dry at home. Just looking for any nuggets of knowledge that might be valuable for my first time out!

USPSA App

Yesterday I shot a USPSA match. I saw the results on practiscore about an hour after the match ended but how long will it take for them to show on the USPSA app itself?

Glock shooters: do you prefer a rolling break or crisp wall, and why?

Going to put a minus connector from (probably) tactical trigger in my Glock, and I'm debating if the rolling break or crisp break is a better option.

21-01 Trigger Freeze - 98.66% LO

Hit my first GM run today at EDPS. Have historically been terrible at this classifier; forced myself to make everything count by not planning a reload. Think I finally settled on a load for the 2K11, now I just have to stop myself from tinkering 😂😂

Walther 4.5" or 5"

Hey all, I currently shoot a shadow 2 in uspsa. It's cajunized but I still tend to yank the first DA shot, which is really frustrating on classifiers. I want to give a Walther SF a shot. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to try either before I make the commitment. Those that compete with them. Should I go 4.5" or 5" match? I'll change the guide rod and grips immediately either way.

Thanks!

M9A4 Abnormal barrel wear from factory beretta comp or is timing the comp or is it a fluke from bad ammo? (Less than 1000 rounds in total and less than 300 with the comp)

SOLVED: it was just a bit of carbon/lead build up! sorry to jump the gun on searching for help!!

I ran my first competition with my comp on my M9A4 and as I clean it I noticed the barrel tip is chipped. The threading is still fine but this seems really odd to me.

During the competition a friend pointed out that there was jacketing stuck in the target as well and it only happened once.

My understanding was that this compensator is ready from the factory and doesn’t requiring timing, but I could’ve been mislead.

you can see some wear on the comp but I don’t know if this normal as well. the Barrel is what concerns me most though. is this a learning me moment or a fluke? any advice would help!

Best entry level DS1911 for LO?

Figured it might be fun to try my hand at limited optics, given I have larger hands and prefer a magwell.. I've seen a lot of people vouch for the 2K11, some people say Staccato is the way to go but plenty more express their disappointment in the brand. I've seen Prodigy and CZ S2 thrown around a little bit so it got me curious where a good starting point would be.

I know everybody says start where you are comfortable but I currently have an LFA Apollo 11 sub and a MAC DSD-Comp that I've been shooting so I'm comfortable with the platform and always looking for a reason to purchase a new toy.

2011 magazine ID + New to me SVI 38 Super

Looking for some help here on identifying what magazines I have here. I purchased an older SVI, and it came with 5 magazines. One is a newer stacatto 20rd magazine, and the other 4 appear to be stacatto as well maybe? 3 I'm fairly sure are 126mm and the last is a 170. I plan to shoot this in USPSA open, and want to change out the springs etc, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what I have. Any help?

Favorite Ace VR drills that actually help build skill?

I've had Ace for a couple weeks now and really like it. I'm just using a quest 2, but I feel like it's plenty good enough.

I'm just curious what drills y'all like to run to actually help build skills vs just playing the game. I've been doing a lot of the steel challenge ones to work on transitions.

How to stay up-to-date on major matches?

I live in the northeast and have been shooting seriously for ~18 months now. Recently hit M in LO and CO and have a renewed interest in shooting major matches. This year, I was late to every one. I was able to sneak into one major but basically nothing else. In 2027, I really want to shoot a few majors and have my training revolve around that.

My problem is I have no idea how to figure out details on these matches until it's too late. Where are yall keeping up to date on majors throughout the year? Is it just constantly checking until a registration date is posted? Is there a website? If it's a function on PractiScore, can you drop the intel?

I feel like I'm missing something obvious but don't know what.

Question for the Glock Shooters

It's been a while since I've seen this discussed here, so I wanted to revisit it now that the shooting season is in full swing.

How's everyone feeling about the G17 Gen 6 vs. the G47? Early on, it seemed like a lot of people were unhappy with the Gen 6's recoil impulse, amongst other things. For those who stuck it out and kept shooting it, how are you feeling now?

I mainly shoot a 47, but picked up a 17.6 through Blue Label pricing to give it a fair shot. Personally, I'm not a fan of the Gen 6's recoil impulse. On paper — and during dry fire and general handling — it feels like it should be the better gun. But the moment I shoot them back-to-back, I find myself preferring the 47. I genuinely can't tell if that's just familiarity, or if the 17.6 is actually worse.

Almost thought I was going to have my first DQ

Shot one of the provisional classifiers (Mike who?) last weekend and wiped out on the gravel and thankfully held on to the gun and kept it down range. Sucks cause it felt like that was going to be a great run time wise for me, but happy it turned out alright.
