S2/sp01 guys who've modified - reliability issues?

I'm about to grab a s2 for competition purposes. I've been watching a bunch of Ben stoeger vids where he's said numerous times that he doesn't really modify his s2's because doing anything other than a short reach kit will make the guns unreliable.

I was going to install the cgw kit pretty much right away once I broke the gun in and now I'm reconsidering.

Shadow 2 w/upgrades vs stock 2011

Hi - current striker fired duty pistol guy looking to upgrade to either a s2 or a 2011, specifically a GP Arms Patriot (~$2k hand fit 2011 with a few mim parts, prob best value in the market).

Assuming I eventually drop in a cgw kit in the s2, which would you pick and why? I'm not tied to CO, obviously willing to go into LO - I'm more looking for the gun that will be performing the best and will be reliable long term.

Uspsa guys - good first LO 2011?

I'm currently a CO competitor but I finally got a chance to shoot a 2011 recently and I'm hooked. After weeks of research, I'm pretty convinced that the Patriot is going to give me the best bang for my buck in terms of a turn key gun to compete with.

Those who run these in uspsa, how's it been for you? I'm coming from an Echelon 4.0fc and when I shot a Prodigy, I was blown away by how fast I could shoot it and how fast my dot returned.

Competition use - much difference between variants?

Hey gang - I'm looking to grab a 2k11 for uspsa competition, limited optics obviously. The price of the base dlc with the orange looking trigger is very attractive but I was wondering if the all black or the eclipse model for a $350 is "worth" it from a performance POV.

Do you feel like the slide cuts or magwell helps it shoot better? What about the grip?

3.5 non comp

Anyone here own a non compensated 3.5? Hard to find reviews. Considering for my winter edc.

Cheapest ammo you've run reliably?

I'm looking to step up my rounds fired per month and seeing if I can save a few bucks. Right now I see some steel case stuff online for 19.6c a round. I think the best deal for brass I could find was around 23c a round.

It's not much but over the course of years it'll add up.

Have you run steel cheapie stuff in your Echelons?

Grip - I'm lost

I've gotten super into competition lately and I'm deep diving into every GM that posts videos online, but mostly Stoeger, Park and HC.

My problem is, Stoeger and HC in particular seem to have completely different views on how to grip the gun. One says hulk smash, the other says use just enough pressure with the dominant hand so the gun isn't moving or loose.

I can't afford to shoot hundreds of rounds weekly, 99% of my practice is dry fire in my office. My tendency is low left so I assume I'm still not gripping correctly but I don't know how to check this at home.

My first comp I wasn't even thinking about grip, just to be safe and remember what the stage directions were. I didn't do well but I'm usually a quick learner. My goal is to classify into B in a few months, CO.

Joining a range

Went to a new range today - place has everything Id want in a shooting facility. Indoor pistol bay, outdoor pistol pit, 8 trap lanes, and a 100 yard 20 bay rifle range. 20 minutes away.

Issue is... Obviously it's somewhat maga-ish and definitely full of trump types (there was a little comic or something I saw on the wall that gave that away).

I met some members and everything seemed fine, guys were nice but it's a typical gun crowd, mostly all old white guys. I'm mid 30s, mixed race and not a gungho conservative (Democrat obviously) even though I absolutely love guns and support 2a fully.

My wife is a hardcore lib, we disagree on the gun stuff in particular. She doesn't want me to join because of the people but I have no other options. Only other range nearby is indoors and 25yards. Going there with a rifle, PCC, shotgun etc is brutal.

Have you joined a conservative gun range as a liberal? How's going if so?

Dry fire drills to improve

Just had my first match, shot my Echelon 4.0fc. I classified as D, just missed C by a hair but I'm totally into it now, tons of fun. I'm likely not going to be able to attend matches for a while and I don't have tons of time for the range, or huge budgets.

What are your top 2 or 3 drills or things to do with dry fire at home? I think my biggest issue was my initial time to first shot from draw and most of my 2nd shots were usually much less accurate than the 1st. I had a few Mikes tossed in according to my practiscore. I'm waiting for my 4th stage to come in but so far by best hf was 4.

My next qualifier is November. I'd love to make B using the Echelon.

X vs c for competition

To anyone who's run both in a competition setting - do you feel like the X is worth the ~$50 more than the C?

I'm currently using an se because that is my carry optic and while I like the closed emitter for that use, its size is less than ideal for shooting targets at speed.

I like what Osight is doing and I'm not looking to support Trijicon at this time.

Lcp max ehg - first shots

Did anyone else experienced an extremely left and low bias? This was just from seven yards and I was using a wrist rest so any errors like flinching or pulling should have been mostly mitigated.

What pants/tops do you wear?

First match coming up, I grabbed some inexpensive ripstop pants that stretch and I'm going you wear one of my generic cotton/poly blend t shirts and a random hat. Whatever Nike shoes I have.

I've seen "purpose" built pants from brands like Howitzer but these are crazy expensive. Is there really anything to gain from more name brand stuff directly marketed for competition?

Curious what you wear for outdoor matches in particular. Thanks.

Da/sa carry - what are you rocking?

I'm looking for a da/sa that is compact-ish in size and can fit 15rd+ and is optic cut already.

I was thinking cz p09c or a p229 but open to anything that fits the above in 9mm. I shot a berreta 92 recently and it was meh, I just didn't shoot it that well compared to my own gun (Echelon 4.0fc).

Rival s users - lok grips

Specifically the palm swell gridlock brass. Do you like them and feel it's worth the price?

I'm looking to upgrade my current competitive shooting polyframe gun to this bad boy but holding one in store made me realize typical Canik grips just aren't grippy enough for me.

NJ shooters - has your club "approved" use of standard mags in comps?

Just registered for my monthly uspsa event and there's still a disclaimer that 10rd mags have to be used. My impression was that the mag ban is over turned save for any stay granted, which doesn't seem likely at this point.

I emailed the event director for clarity but wonder if any of you have already used higher than 10rd magazines in actual events yet.

Adding speed

I'm training to try and get faster. Left is 50 singles at 10yrd, 1s pause between every shot (switched to bottom right after 40), right is 7yards, doubles as fast as I possibly could, center focused. My uspsa targets are on the way so this is the best I had yesterday.

Is this decent? I dry fire every day working on indexing and being target focused only.

I watch as many stoeger videos as I can. What other advice do you have to help me gain even more speed (I don't know my splits, sorry no timer on me) while not getting massively inaccurate.

Osight x

Anyone here run this optic? I'm running the se and so far I like it, but wanting something with a nicer window size with out paying Holosun comp/pro or trijicon prices.

Have you run into any issues?

Need new ear pro

Okay my first match is coming up and I'd like to step up from my basic Walkers electronic. They are fine when I use them at the range and I double up, but I'd really like a new pair with really good stereo audio that don't require foamies outdoors.

I'm okay spending up to $150, I'll go a bit higher if it's really worth it.

What ear pro are you using?

4.0fc and 4.5f - recoil impulse

To anyone who has shot both, how's the recoil feel to you between the two? I own a 4.0fc and it's a touch snappy but not too crazy, I enjoy it a lot. I'm now getting into competition and was thinking about getting a 4.5f if that is a little bit more tame.

Do you bring medical with you to matches?

I like watching guys online talk about their load outs, whether that's holster, firearm choice or belt set up, and recently saw a few guys mention they put a TQ on their belt and I got to thinking, maybe I should do that too... You never know.
