Price trend/check (4.5" full size)

Not sure if a price check is allowed. If not, please delete.

My local FFL can get a full size 4.5" for $410 plus sales tax here in UT -- so likely around $445, all-in. As a frequent gun.deals user, the lower prices are typically around $360-370, before shipping, sales tax (for some), and FFL transfer fee -- all-in is likely around $405.

In general, if the all-in price is close enough -- even if higher -- I generally prefer making the purchase locally. I've seen people mentioning a price range of $330-360, but haven't seen anything like that as of late.

Thanks.

Dryfire drills for "NOT" muscling the gun for target transitions

***Context***

All...after being away from the game for ~12 years, I started shooting again about 4 months ago. Don't really have the time or place to do much, if any, live firing. Dryfire it is. Was a production shooter from 2012-14 when production/open were all the rage. Was shooting between A and M level. Best I've done was shooting about 75%-80%of Ben Stoeger and Matt Mink back in the day.

Fastforward to today, started shooting CO a couple of months ago. As a former D1 collegiate athlete, I tend to "muscle" the gun quite a bit in the interest of "speed" -- superficially shooting speed. My movement is quite quick/fast and I tend to shoot pretty fast. Just have to be even more comfortable with target focus and indexing.

***Problem***

For close-target transitions, I often have bad 2nd shots -- C/D and even M. I tend to "float" through the targets and not leading with my eyes and often "muscle" the gun for speed. Yesterday's local match, I finished 4th out of 25 in CO and 17th in the match of 75; as a result of those bad hits from bad transitions, I had 5 mikes and way too many charlies/deltas. Could easily have finished second in CO. In short, my shooting "time" is usually quite good, but sub-optimal transitions often cost me big time...whether from bad hits or from over-transition by muscling the gun; this ends up costing me in points or in time.

***How to address***

I'm going to do more dryfiring and make sure I "pause" on each target within the array. That said, I also want to make sure I don't over-confirm and linger on each target. Any dryfire drill recommendation is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Thanks for reading this long post.

Strange slide/frame mismatch

Recently bought a new-2-me Shadow 2 and had it sent directly to Vigilante Machine for slide milling and cerakoting. Drew sent me a couple of pics after he finished and we noticed this...slide is protruding past the frame. See pics. I didn't really notice when the seller sent me the pics of the gun in its original form, pre-cerakoting. The frame seems shorter than all the images of S2 I have seen.

Sent CZ-USA an email about it and was asked to send it in for a safety inspection. Sigh....wish I had noticed the protrusion prior to purchasing. The seller is not responding to my messages. It's on me, of course. Was so excited to get my the gun back from VM. Not sure what, if, CZ-USA will do.

Glock 17 G6 vs RXM

All...first time poster here. Thinking about picking up my very first Glock or Glock clone. Any thoughts between the 17G6 vs the RXM? Maybe I'll pick up both eventually but let's just start with one. haha

FWIW...I'm a long-time competitive shooter and shoot CZ Shadows. Although I have shot a Glock, that was about 13 years ago. Probably should go rent a 17G6 and RXM for some first-hand experience. Nonetheless, just want to get some thoughts from y'all. Not really thinking about competition for Glock/RXM. Just want one.

Thanks.

Brass grips...

...because the SP-01 Shadow just isn't heavy enough. Haha. These brass grips from Patriot Defense added about 6 oz to the gun vs the non-brass version. It now weighs ~46.5oz without a mag. Have no idea whether the added mass will help with my USPSA shooting, but the balance of the gun has definitely changed.

New mod! RX Arms Charging Handle

Just added the titanium charging handle from RX Arms...love it. I had been bugging RX about the new batch eta for some time. As soon as I got it last night, I installed it on my 1301 Comp.

Fwiw...the Rx charging handle weighs ~10g on my scale and the stock handle weighs ~9g. u/rxarms

10-minute Demo in SLC

Fwiw...I had a 10-minute Demo of R2 in Salt Lake City. The service center currently has just one(1) R2 for demo and it is a Catalina Cove riding on 21-in wheels.

My demo was a complete luck in that I booked an R1S demo, not R2; when I got there, apparently the scheduled R2 demo person did not show up, so the advisor kindly put me in the R2 and R1S back-2-back. Only had 10 minutes because I had to be back for the next R2 demo appointment (also didn't show up). FYI, booking an R2 demo, either via the Rivian app or via the website, is pretty much impossible.

My impressions are short.

- EV experience: I have. Tesla Model 3 Stealth Performance from 2018/19.

- initial R2 impressions.

* Fits me great. I'm 6'1" and about 215 lbs with a pretty muscular build and broad shoulders.

* Ample leg room. No need to elaborate here.

* The adjustable suspension settings were noticeable. As is with the regen.

* Didn't play with the sound system. Don't care. I'm an "audiophile" and have a pretty good system in a dedicated 2-channel room. Car audio doesn't do much for me.

* Performance...more than adequate and has enough giddy up.

* Halo wheels. Worked fine.

*Menu...like many things, will take a bit of time to get used to it.

In short, I'm a fan, for now. To me, as a one-person household, R2 provides more utility value. Although I wanted to demo an R2, I wasn't in a hurry. I want the Coastal Cloud interior and the updated hardware. The Catalina Cove looked great in person. Still undecided.

Day 1 (afternoon) Reservation

As a Day-1 reservation holder, I can't even find a demo slot here in Salt Lake City. Have been trying for a week. Not made though. Not in a hurry in that I want the Coastal Cloud interior. Have enjoyed reading all the demo reviews/experience.

John Browning Museum

For those of you who are history and firearms buffs, there is a Browning Firearms museum in Ogden, Utah. It contains an extensive collection of JMB's early works. The museum is a part of the Ogden Union Station, which contains multiple museums including the Utah State Railroad Museum that details the formation of the Transcontinental Railroad.

It's well worth the $7 ticket.

Returning to USPSA competition after 12 years...

Was a production guy for 3 years (2012-14) and got to A, then an injury and life got in the way. Of course, as age and deteriorating eyesight have caught up to me, after 3 matches in Production, I got one of my Shadows (gen 1) cut for optics for CO. Making that transition is, shall we say, a bit of challenge. Gotta get back into dryfire.

btw...holy poop, why is it difficult for people to use the proper range command? I mean...Shooter are you ready? Range is safe? Slide forward? LOL

Optic Cut on my old Shadow

I was a very active USPSA Production competitor about 12 years ago, but had to stop as a result of injury. Fast-forward to today, decided to re-start USPSA again -- old eyes are making iron sight much more challenging. Thus, thought I'd jump into Carry Optics.

Have two SP-01 Shadows from 2012-13. Here's the one I sent to Vigilante Machine for an optic cut. Turned out fantastically. Drew at VM is very responsive and is open to ideas...great communication from him. While having my Shadow there, Drew crowned my Australia-length barrel. As the Australia-length barrel (~5.0mm longer) won't fit with the CGW barrel bushing, we thought crowning the barrel would be a good solution.

I particularly like the "shoulder" cut he does for his stainless steel plate -- to me, that mechanical fitting makes sense. Maybe I should do the same to my other Shadow. We shall see. Here are a few pics of my old Shadows.

Just got a Holosun AEMS Pro X2 and installed it. Still need to hit the range. As I'm not a rifle/PCC guy, look forward to shooting it.

Just need a can.

Just want to share that I had a very positive experience during my 3-week business trip to China and Taiwan. As a new USM customer of ~3 months, I'm pleased. Was on Light Speed -- both voice and data worked great whether I was communicating with Asia-based numbers or with US-based numbers.
