Airline moved my outbound flight by 5 days (July 1st to 6th), but kept the return flight on July 10th. What are my options? (EU protections?)
Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a panic right now and could really use some advice.
A month ago, I booked a round-trip ticket from Warsaw (WAW) to Chania, Crete (CHQ) for July 1st, returning on July 10th. I bought everything in a single transaction. Shortly after booking, I noticed the airline split the booking into two separate reservation codes (PNRs), but I didn't think much of it at the time.
Today, I woke up to a nightmare email. The airline rescheduled my outbound flight from July 1st to July 6th! That completely ruins my 10-day vacation, cutting it down to just 4 days, while my return flight remains unchanged on July 10th.
I am absolutely devastated. Hotels and local arrangements are already booked and paid for.
Has anyone dealt with a schedule change this drastic before? Because the flight is more than 14 days away, I know standard EU261 compensation for delays might not apply, but what are my rights regarding rebooking or a full refund?
Specifically:
- Can I demand that they book me onto an alternative flight (even with another airline) close to my original July 1st date?
- Does the fact that they split my single transaction into two PNRs affect my right to refund both flights if I decide to cancel the whole trip?
Any advice on how to handle their customer service or what steps to take next would be massively appreciated. Thank you!
